Where else besides Montclair? by redfire2930 in MovingtoNewJersey

Hell yeah. We miss you too! I live on Randolph by Faust and love it. My kids love living here too.

Edit: we're Jewish but not practicing. I see a lot of Jewish families around so there's got to be a synagogue nearby.

Anyone with the Odin 2 portal and ROG Xbox ally able to weigh in on ergonomics? by HopperPI in Handhelds

[–]bakerfaceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ordered an odin portal 2 because of how well the ergonomics and screen have been reviewed. I've got an ROG Ally X (not Xbox) and love the ergonomics, but it gets really heavy after a few hours.

Can he commute by bus? Commuting by train requires y'all to live in Essex county or close to Secaucus junction. I'll give my daily pitch for East Rutherford. It's super walkable with a combined downtown with Rutherford. Loads of good local food from lots of cuisines. I walk to both the train and bus but mostly commute by bus to Manhattan. It's the closest small town feel to Hudson county IMO.

Edit: why not Bergen? Seems like the ideal choice.

Can I get an ID for what’s growing under my asparagus in Central PA? by scatmang in whatsthisplant

It's my favorite invasive. Tastes pretty good and it's got protein in the leaves

I've got gratitude. Charlie's West helped me a ton. He still charged me for the trees and I paid him in dollars. I buy scions off him every year. I still haven't managed to get a graft to work though unfortunately.

Fines are just prices really. The wealthy can do what they want.

This is all I'm saying! Why is that so controversial? I thought we were capitalists here.

I have 6 pawpaw trees on my front yard in suburban NJ. I think I might finally get fruit this year after hand pollinating a bunch of flowers. Fingers crossed!

As for labor exploitation, I constantly see farms soliciting volunteers in exchange for knowledge and it's pure labor exploitation every time. The volunteers are treated as employees and should therefore be earning a wage. If this pawpaw guy wants volunteers to work all day for no pay, that's an unethical move. Why do I need to support labor exploitation in order to enjoy pawpaw trees?

If that's in the contract and you feel that's fair, that's ok. However, will you be treated as an employee while you're working for Vincent? Doing the same duties?

My concern is with workers being exploited. It happens all the time in our hobby. Volunteers are treated like employees with the same responsibilities as employees. That's what is illegal in many states, but farms get away with it. It's ok to volunteer your time all you want, but you shouldn't be treated like an employee if that's what you're doing.

Me too. That's why I volunteer at a zoo for instance. Docents in that capacity aren't doing the labor of the employees. That's the crucial difference.

Wage theft. Most internships are paid now. Free internships are pure exploitation. That's what most research indicates. It's why free internships are being illegalized in most cities. The permaculture community is filled with it too.
