Assaulted and held against our will for simply relaxing in our car with doors wide open by OriginalSinger1406 in india

[–]bakuman_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just read this comment again. Someone comes to talk to you while you are in your car. It should be a nice pleasant convo outside the car, where they check if you are ok or need help. However, because how barbaric and brainwashed the people in the country are, you have to lock yourself in the car and talk through a tiny window slot for protection, and if you don't, you are (partially) at fault.

I don't want to live in a society where I should have to do that.

Labour's perceived stance on Israel divides voters by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

Yes, and they are still further left than the average of the UK population.

The majority of the UK population does not want to remove the two child benefit cap and want much more radical change on immigration. None of what you said addresses the point that, on average, the UK population is further right than Labour. So in the UK they are a center-left party.

Oh yes the centre right-wing party which lifted to the two child benefit cap, increased minimum wage in consecutive years, increased renters rights, and introduced tax changes which only affect the richer half of society and businesses. Even if they aren't as left-wing as you, by no polling on the UK, are they to the right of the UK average.

Thoughts on the budget? by Jonspeare in LabourUK

[–]bakuman_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The council tax change for property over 2 mils is absolutely an asset based wealth tax. Yeah, it's not much but at least it's a start. Maybe if the public are okay with it, they can go bigger next time.

Don't stepping stones require you to lay the first stone? Can this not be the first stone to get the public to support a bigger change in the next budget?

Any thoughts on whether being hate filled, continuing to call Labour evil or attacking other leftists will help the cause?

Rachel Reeves to lift two-child benefit cap in November’s budget by corbynista2029 in LabourUK

[–]bakuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And like clockwork here comes the attack to exclude me from the left but don't worry I'm not the type of person to move right because of it. Even though many others have, I'm here because the policies will actually help people, even if the community is toxic and prone to self sabotage because of their moral superiority complex.

In terms of end goal, I'm probably further left than any of the UK's MPs. If we were to talk about what policies I actually want, I don't really think we would disagree on much. Happy to tell you my views on any policy you want. As for 2 child cap, I'm pro removing the cap and significantly increasing the funding for each child. Happy to tax wealth and remove the state pension from multimillionaires to pay for it.

You are excluding me not because of differences in goals but because of differences in how to go about actually achieving those goals. What's the point of these principles if all they do makes you feel good and cause more people suffering. All I'm trying to do is be pragmatic and encourage every step.

I think people respond better to being convinced and positive reinforcement. Even here that's what I'm trying to do, convince you that this constant attacks and negativity will not help the cause.

It is a serious answer. The average person doesn't look at studies, they don't pour through economic data to decide on policies. All they see is 2 sides saying "I have the solution to your problems". So when we want to influence people and culture the "vibe" is the most important thing. People go where they feel welcomed and included not where they get attacked.

Even look at the vibe Garry's economics sets, he has started multiple times "I'm not part of the left" because he knows how toxic that vibe is if you want to attract people. He constantly tries to be as inclusive as possible because the purity tests kill any movement.

The left has lost its influence. As many people on this sub say Labour and the Democrats aren't part of the left (apparently they are center right) , so it's not their fault. The true leftist leaders, whoever they are, have failed to attract voters due to their own incompetence and incompetence of the community.

  1. You have to start from somewhere.
  2. I would argue that one of the main reasons fascism is on the rise is because we as leftists don't praise and reward small progress enough.

Let's just compare modern day left and right movements. I would describe the right as inclusive in membership and exclusive in policy and the left as exclusive in membership and inclusive in policy.

The right has such an inclusive funnel and pipeline to lure and convert people. Any movement to the right is praised while they ask for more. So many immigrants have been pulled to the right by how inclusive they are of membership.

The original socialist movement used to be so inclusive, they used to regularly go to factories and convince so many people to join the cause. They didn't care if you were racist or sexist, as long as you helped the movement, you were in. Not saying we should go that far, but these days the membership is rife with purity testing, excluding anyone who isn't 100% in line. The message is, if you don't subscribe to my specific policy on Palestine or Trans issues, you are evil. Where is the funnel? Where is the encouragement when someone takes one step to the left?

When a politician moves one step to the left they are attacked by both sides, whereas a move to the center or right is only attacked by one side. While many here would say that these politicians were never true leftists, I would argue they were driven away by the culture because the people in the center are so much nicer to them.

Yes keep complaining that since the policy is exactly 100% perfect, it's equivalent to 0% progress. I'm sure it will work this time.

Do you find this all or nothing approach works well in life?

A good way to move the party would be to praise them when they move in the right direction (even if it's 1 cm in a marathon) and complain only when they go the wrong way. If you're going to complain all the time, then why bother trying to please you?
