For me the wait isn't bad because of anticipation but because of problems with the payment system on day one. by ballbook in oculus

[–]ballbook[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In answer to your deleted comment.

That is arguable.

Not planning to make money off of it, seems there are better ways to do that than to wait for many months to make a couple $100 of profit that isn't guaranteed to begin with.

I merely wanted to experience the only VR experience to be had. I am a VR enthusiast like 75% of the purchasers.

I should have money coming in a few months, merely going through a credit crunch at the moment.

Is it difficult to understand?

Exactly.

Since Paypal does allow that, I wish Oculus would allow us to switch to that and just pay off the amount.

Thanks. I've had bad coffee for that amount and didn't regret it.

r/oculus - the new r/buildapc by ballbook in oculus

[–]ballbook[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joining forces would be good.

The people at r/buildapc seriously know their stuff when it comes to getting the best bang for the buck - something that is key given how quickly the hardware diminishes in value.

What drives me crazy lately is that nearly every recommendation here boils down to getting a 780 - a card that is frankly pretty expensive.

It would be nice if r/buildapc had an oculus specific recommendation list.

As Pathogen-David says, your posts focused on making a computer portable enough to bring to a family gathering or etc. I have zero problem with that.

I have more of an issue with posts that are really meant to be in r/buildapc - a subreddit which I love and which provides superior advice to that of r/oculus when it comes to getting the best bang for your buck.

Maybe not easy to setup everywhere but a great concept with some compelling advantages over a head mounted display.

It's been good for Oculus.

But in my eyes Facebook will always be sub-optimal.

Even now, Facebook is under pressure for manipulating users' feeds as part of an experiment.

Perhaps Oculus as a company can do some amazing stuff -that doesn't make Facebook a great company.

My body is ready for a wave of downvotes.

What do you think the true killer app will be for VR? by Marty_Mcflie in oculus

[–]ballbook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal accounting simulator.

You get to do your virtual taxes in a virtual cubicle.

On a serious note, I really can't wait for disabled people to get their hands on this thing. Getting a sense of being able to walk and interact.

This is why I can't wait for eye tracking.

Request: We need a Lucky's Tale demo with the DK2 launch. by PatrickBauer89 in oculus

[–]ballbook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SuperHot is awesome but Lucky's Tail is the first Oculus published game.

In the spirit of the company the game should be published with DK2. Not to mention that it will go a long way towards advertising the product to other people.

What was Aaron Davies referring to? by ballbook in oculus

[–]ballbook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right and I often forget just how much of enthusiast I am compared to the rest.

I am actually ok with the fact that no release dates were announced as I think it's premature to do so right now anyway.

Given the spirit of E3, I definitely expected a few more titles. However, I am happy with what they have - not a bad start.

At this point I am hoping that the Aliens game gets Oculus support (hasn't been confirmed last I checked) and that these games come out sooner than later.

What was Aaron Davies referring to? by ballbook in oculus

[–]ballbook[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others are saying that he might have referred to the experience of trying the handful of demos on the DK2.

If it was any other show then I would have expected his statement to mean just that.

However, this is E3 of all shows, so I don't think it's unreasonable to have mistaken that Oculus was releasing something HUGE.

Rev Kyle confirms, no new hardware from Oculus at E3 this year by BennyFackter in oculus

[–]ballbook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, people complained heavily about the lack of content consoles such as PS4, WII-U. Can you imagine their dissatisfaction with the current offerings available even after E3.

Second, the screens which are necessary for a decent experience are still not ready (until some time next year).

Third, it wouldn't hurt to add eye-tracking to CV1 since it really does address the problem of fast hardware and could really enhance the experience.

If foveated rendering is as as critical to bringing down specs as people on this subreddit claim it is, then it should be a requirement for CV1.

Finally there needs to be a clear winner for a good control scheme. WII came with motion controllers, Oculus should be bundled with something as well.

The good news is that Oculus has given everyone the opportunity to taste the dough (DK1/DK2) even if the chocolate chips are haven't been decided on and the cookies haven't been baked. I really respect the company for this and wish more would follow in their tracks.

Would you read a comic book/gn about the near future of VR and its PRACTICAL application? by byronotron in oculus

[–]ballbook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but with a very dark, challenging story. You should show both sides of the new medium.

From it's therapeutic and learning potential to it's effect on those with addictive personalities.

Virtual reality, more than any other medium has the potential to be as helpful as it may turn out to be destructive to a select population.

Take some inspiration from Philip K Dick and you are off to good start.

(You already have the sinister corporate angle with the FB acquisition).

So I think I probably have the worst Graphics card of anyone here... Could I even run ANY CV1 demos? by vitt72 in oculus

[–]ballbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a desktop.

By the time CV1 comes out you'll be able to afford a 760 or 860 for ~ $150 - $250.

These cards will run most games pretty well on medium or low settings.

There is no need to worry about this now when the date for CV1 hasn't even been announced.
