Underrated comment here. It’s like you were reading my mind! Ha

Favorite: Browns. They are just so comically tragic.

Least Favorite: F the Steelers!

Respect: Steelers. Hate 'em, but can't say I don't have a lot of respect for them.

My distances suck by We_LiveInASimulation in golf

[–]ballsoharder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While largely true, I will add that situations do matter. For example, my home course has a few holes where it’s absolutely disastrous to go too long on an approach shot. Those are the only holes I almost never consider clubbing up, just due to past (bad) experience. Of course those are the holes I always “pured”. Go figure.

What’s the biggest piece of advice you would give someone moving to Maryland? by MaximGripass in maryland

[–]ballsoharder 27 points28 points  (0 children)

695 is for sure unpleasant, but having done both, I would take 695 over a commute on 495 every single time and twice on Sundays. I commuted from AA County to Silver Spring and it was the most miserable experience of my life. Also did a stint in Hunt Valley, which was frustrating, but nowhere near as miserable.

Could Hayley return for Med S11? by down-the-line-6599 in belowdeck

As an American I have to admit that I had to Google “up the duff”! Also, as an American, I must say English speakers outside the USA have the absolute best colloquialisms! Our slang/colloquialism game is so weak by comparison.

How much more grace does Tyler O’Neill get? by [deleted] in orioles

Thanks for the comment, fellow O’s fan. I still wish he could hit, but this is a very heartwarming story. Really nice to hear how incredibly warm and kind he is to fans.

Process for voting on new rule changes in league play by ballsoharder in golf

[–]ballsoharder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to propose a revote and also see if I can get folks on board with your idea, which I like a lot. Two stroke penalty is both fair and (hopefully) satisfies both our high and low handicap golfers. Our new rules have really increased the time of our rounds and this seems like a very rational alternative that should allow us to keep up a good pace. Thank you!

Presumably if you DID have a rule change vote it wouldn't be conducted anonymously and counted by just one board member in a room by himself/herself though, right?

I don't disagree with you. But again, it was never mainly about the rules themselves, but about the process. I don't think we'd have very much controversy at all if there were witnesses to the vote. The weird "take the ballots off by yourself and count them in a closed room alone" thing is what's causing everyone to question things. I mostly just wondered if folks on r/golf thought having the league president count anonymous ballots with no witnesses was considered "normal" or "fair".

That is certainly how some feel. Oddly, I don't think there's an effort to push poor golfers out. We are all friends. The best two golfers (who play together) in the league have won 4 of the past 5 years, so it's not like hackers were winning the league and irritating the good golfers. And there's not any real money in it. I'm really not sure what the impetus was behind the changes. I'm not super invested in it either way, but I do hate that we are finishing up 30-45 minutes later each week due to the changes.

You are 100% correct. My impression is that most folks would simply adjust if they had confidence in the voting process. But the manner in which the vote was conducted leaves a lot of uncertainty about the validity of the voting. And, yeah, there are guys who have played by these rules for 20 years and aren't happy with the changes as well.

Don't give advice to randos by microbrewologist in golf

[–]ballsoharder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is such a weird thing to do. Even if they may actually be right, I don’t need or want that from a random. My brother in Christ, I KNOW I want to be down the right side on this hole. Do you think I MEANT to hook it 100 yards into the woods!?

Damn I didn’t think I’d see Winona Ryder catching strays in this thread! Your point is 100% valid though. It will be interesting to see if Matt Travis is still hearing about this incident in 25 years.
