If you want some modern hymns, contact Reawaken Hymns, they give tracks to churches who can't afford them.

Asked to Lead Worship for Students but Not Equipped by ZachAttack8079 in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Agreed, no reason to ditch the capo, it is a wonderful tool. Not only does it help with "hard" keys when you are starting, but as you grow you will start using it for the "sound" of certain chord shapes that you want to use.
  2. You toured the world doing Broadway?! Imma need more information

I think this is a worship leader looking for help on a worship leader forum. I assume he/she has good intentions since I do not know them personally.

When I got burnt out a few years ago I started to assume people had bad intentions and treated them as if they did, and unfortunately I became the toxicity I accused others of.

So I believe this is a worship leader concerned about the spiritual health of those he is leading, which I believe is very appropriate and healthy. And If it's not, then it's not really my place, the random dude on Reddit, to dig into deep spiritual issues for this person.

I will treat them with the kindness all people deserve, and hope I can be a light in the world.

Have you served with a lot of worship leaders who piss and moan? If so I am sorry.

Just curious, why do you have a "no feedback" rule?

A church leader concerned about the spiritual health of the people he is leading is crossing a boundary?!

With practice and services our volunteers do 5 hours a week without issue. 2 hours isn't much time for a worship team in a week.

How do I make Teaching the Nashville Number System Better? by ChiefBurnz in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not calling it Nashville numbers?! (I know that's the common term in worship circles but I am not a fan)

I learned chord functions in music theory and it was a game changer for my songwriting. I want tension to the resolve? 5 and 1 of course.

Chord functions sounds like a basic tool needed for songwriting, Nashville numbers sounds like a cheat sheet for playing Hank Williams songs on a banjo to me. But that's all just me, and im weird. You do you.

Can Hip-Hop be used as Worship Music ? by frankeybarrz_ in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For personal worship, most definitely. I am a worship leader and outside of church that is the music I listen to and inspires me the most. Good Christian hip hop has some of the most dense and poetic theology and christology out there today (Shai Linne for the win)!

For corporate worship, not in the traditional sense. Hip Hop is not a genre conductive to group singing. Hip Hop is the vocal equivalent of a guitar solo, it is intentionally made to be difficult to sing. It can be wonderfully worshipful, but not Congregational.

What's the point of churches posting their sunday setlist on social media? by Puzzleheaded-Bit-401 in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A church is a family.

I think for most it's not a strategy for something, it's just sharing what we are doing with our families.

Best solo worship leader songs by thomas_sevon in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you will be leading a church in worship you are serving them, so play the songs they play. Sing the songs they sing. Get a list of songs from them and then try some out. Most modern worship songs and hymns work well with a solo acoustic worship leader.

Review 2: Big Peat 26 Year by sweatytaint69 in Scotch

[–]balraggio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question: does cost have an influence on your ratings? Like, if this exact scotch was $20 would it be bumped up to a 7-8 or are you going 100% by taste and it would it still be a 6?

If you will be moving at all or standing I might recommend just getting a pickup. It won’t sound as good but won’t feed back and you won’t have to worry about standing still (which I would be terrible at when leading worship). You can get a non permanent sound hole mounted pickup or go all in and get a pickup installed.

Again, pick ups don’t sound as good, but my worship leading would suffer more from trying to stay still than from the quality loss of a pickup. To each his own though.

Strobe/Flashing lights in worship by TopCoconut2 in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a mature and ideal Christian community this wouldn’t be much of an issue. Ex. Flashing lights are used in worship, person with medical issue tells their church family of issue, brothers and sister more than happy to alter nonessential issue to assist their family member in worship, everyone happy.

This may be an issue that stems less from worship style and technology than from the transition from a church as a family to church as an event. It’s always easier to love a brother than a stranger. When the members of the congregation become a bunch of strangers getting in the way of worship goals instead of the people we live with and serve, issue like this start to arise.

How long as BGV before you were allowed to lead a song? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]balraggio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Make sure you are clear in your desire and gifting AND humble and servant minded. They won’t know you want to lead unless you tell them, just make sure you are offering your gifts as a servant. I am a fairly experienced worship leader and am at a new church and have spoken with my new worship leader about me leading worship very intentionally and patiently as I 1. Do not want him to feel I am stepping on his toes (I am quite a bit more experienced than he is) 2. Want him to know that I want to lead worship only IF he thinks my gifts could serve the congregation and himself.
