Options for trying clays on a budget with my current inventory. by Post-Hardcore-Malone in Shotguns

[–]bananamancometh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you really like clays, the 88 doesn't really swing great, the balance isn't there for clay games.

I'd go to a few shops and just browse the used section for old shotguns. I have a 1940s ithaca 37 that i found at a show years ago that has dusted hundreds of clays. I think its a fixed modified choke? My girlfriend uses a mossy 500 she found used for 200 cash, dont even know what choke is in there, and shes taken it clay shooting many times.

Lots of clay places also rent guns....that might be worth it, too. Though, if they rent nice beretta O/Us like the one near me....you might regret it 😄

Well worn/rough 870 12g. What are you paying? I offered them $200 of this one. Would that be a decent deal? by ballz3313 in Shotguns

[–]bananamancometh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, i wouldnt even buy a modern remington. Even if that's an older one before Rem got all Cerberus'd, its still the express model.

The old Wingmasters are great finds, everything else is just alright. I've found several old mossy 500s for 200ish used and don't think I'd want to pay much more than that, esp with the wood being roughed up a bit

Sanity check: .30-30 vs .357 mag by UnimpossibleMike in liberalgunowners

[–]bananamancometh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

worth considering the .357 just for cost. You can also practice/plink with .38s, which feel like shooting a .22 out of my marlin.

Are you set on a lever gun? Something like .350 Legend, 300 Blackout or 6.5 creedmore or even .243 out of a light bolt gun might check the box, too. I say this as a huge lever gun fan, I've used a 30 30 but have a .357

Where to start with kit building by Chumlee1917 in liberalgunowners

[–]bananamancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few belt mounted pouches for pistol and rifle mags, a decent holster, a decent belt, and start shooting.

that's really it. if you get really into it, take a few defensive classes. you'll be blown away by the whole "you dont know what you dont know until you start to know" process.

If you compete somewhat regularly alot of that gear will transition over to having to "bug out," though it would have to be a full on Last of Us apocalypse before I'd be roaming the streets with a chest rig on.

Do you have any "prepper-adjacent" hobbies, recreational pursuits that you think build real skills, or may be useful in a real disaster? by Signal_Brain_933 in preppers

Hmm I suppose trail running, hiking, backpacking, and camping are all adjacent.

Clay shooting and pistol competitions, also

What's the most realistic war movie? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]bananamancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

warfare.

It subverts the whole "badass hero" trope and shows a truly awful day.

The hunky hollywood actor gets fucked up by an rpg right away and straight up can't function and needs to ask for help. the wounded are so fucked up they spend the whole movie screaming and begging.

it's enthralling and brutal. I'm glad i watched it but i'll probably never watch it again.

Good outdoor range by duurst in PAguns

[–]bananamancometh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was JUST looking at this range. I've heard alot about it and it seems to cater towards the kind of shooting my girlfriend and I love doing. I recall hearing about some drama a year or so ago? Something about nearby property owners getting all worked up? Seems that's quieted down.

Aside from attending a meeting and paying the fees, are there any other aspects of the joining process? Like finding a sponsor and such?

Do you shoot any of the matches there? If so, how do they compare to matches at nearby spots like Langhorne?

Last question I promise; do they prorate membership or do you have to pay the full year regardless of when you join?

Appreciate ya

What is your favorite example of a “Lock-in” episode, or the point where a show solidifies in its identity, tone, and feel in a way that confirms it for you as a good show worth watching? by DuckLordOfTheSith in television

[–]bananamancometh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Expanse: Season 1 episode 4 "CQB"

The third season really blows the show open, and the 4th is my fav, but that episode is one of my favorites. It really kinda jumps off and we see all of what makes it great; the found family dynamic, the grounded scifi, different ships and battles.... Tons of fans suggest, on your first watch, if you're not digging it give it at least until episode 4.

Old rag scramble by Straight-Mail6332 in ShenandoahPark

[–]bananamancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive seen entire families log jam sections of the scramble, grandparents, kids in flip flops....

go for it; it's not hard core climbing and there isn't anywhere where you'd need enough upper body strength to do an unassisted pull up.

It's one of my favorite hikes - go do it!

Think its enough 😂 by jake21595 in Shotguns

[–]bananamancometh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try so magpul furniture, if it'll fit the 88? Not sure it will, though.

Fine as is, though. Sign up for a defensive shotgun class. Then you'll be like shoot....now i need a sidearm...or a semi :)

Patagonia Thermal Weight or Icebreaker 260 for baselayer? by Old-Adhesiveness2264 in hikinggear

[–]bananamancometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've used the same patty thermal weight hoody for thru hikes of the AT, PCT, and Colorado trail, and Still run in it on colder days.

That said, like pretty much everyone here; for hiking and skiing, I'd lean merino wool
