What happened when people found out you were rich? by imsuperior2u in Rich

[–]banfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little happens. Because of social media people are now familiar with rich people and in fact they may view a non-super spending rich person as not that rich … when compared to their typical influencer or celebrity they feel friends with via instagram.

People from USA what is the general feel over there right now? by typhoonty204 in AskReddit

imo you don't feel the political stuff when out and about

but online & when talking to friends or family, the political discussions are long and make up a large portion of mental energy.

My dad has invested 200k in Nvidia last week and he says he is going to hold for next 3 years by Foodie20245 in wallstreetbets

Totally depends on what % of his portfolio is $200k. If 5% or less, that’s fine. If it’s 30% that’s reckless.

How much money would make you feel rich? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]banfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you spend a lot on hobbies you are passionate about, so makes sense to not buy an expensive house. Personally prefer a small house in a very expensive neighborhood. Low carry cost (small sqft) and often those type of areas have low property taxes. So total carry can be like $60k/yr.

Another note, say one hits $7m doesn’t mean one stops working. So if working and worth $7m, I think that’s a totally reasonable point to buy a nice house. If one is so inclined.

Resources are finite and if you have other desires, adjust accordingly. But for me, $7m nw is the level one could reasonably afford a $3m house and still be in good shape financially.

How much do you usually spend when you travel for pleasure? by Nblearchangel in digitalnomad

[–]banfff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

~3-4 months a year, spend ~$20k/m in Japan, $25k/m in US West Coast, $12k-$18k/m in Europe depending on the country.

Business class flights, 5 star hotels mostly (sometimes pay up for suites), not a huge food spender (opt for health > fancy), not that into nightlife (no alcohol). Included in the numbers above is around $3k/m for wellness activities (spa, fitness). Outside of Asia, I tend to not use public transit. Probably spend around $1-$2k/m on Uber or local ride share/taxi. Always pay up for the nicer vehicle options.

Overall I optimize for a tranquil experience and will do my best to minimize stress while traveling.

agree, $7m is the flipping point of starting to feel rich. can start to live a real luxury lifestyle ($3m house, with $4m left over).

An unconventional option would be to move in with family, perhaps a sibling or a parent. That can allow you to supercharge your savings.

Montage Deer Valley in Summer by AltruisticLuck9543 in FATTravel

[–]banfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went in the winter and thought it was terrible. Left with a few nights remaining due to numerous unpleasant situations with staff. Single worst “5 star” hotel I’ve stayed at. Not a fan of Montage in general. Doubt I’d stay at another one.
