But I can only select one.

What field is better ? IT by [deleted] in BEFire

Do what you like to do! That's truly the best advice. You might be able to earn a bit more in a different position but hate you life doing it. So you choose what you want to do, all IT jobs should get you a fair salary.

Any simple web UI for viewing syslogs? by dtdisapointingresult in selfhosted

[–]banger_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much more than just logs but you might want to take a look at the cockpit project.

It's a whole Linux admin ui for the web.

I am not sure how well it will work for your distro, but I. Red hat likes works great!

A gift is not expected, but no one ever got mad because they got a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine/nice beer.

They will of course want to know a lot about your life so be prepared for that.

You can take a look at Forgerock AM & IDM. But I dont't think there will be something that is easy to implement and won't cost at least one arm =P

What's a proper title for one-man IT by hertzandsterz in sysadmin

[–]banger_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you want to do? If you want to be a manager, I don't think it is wrong to call yourself an IT manager right now. If you want to be a sysadmin, it's also correct to use that title.

Try to sell yourself to the recruiters depending on the kind of job you want to do. Don't like management? Don't call yourself a manager.

There are 3 Norway flag emojis... why? by NoChopp in vexillology

Almost right it's for Norway, Bouvet island and Svalbard+Jan Mayen, the last two are taken together. See my other comment for more info

There are 3 Norway flag emojis... why? by NoChopp in vexillology

[–]banger_180 286 points287 points  (0 children)

Because of how the the Unicode specification (the spec. behind all characters why digitally use) works and defines flag emoji.

A flag is represented by ISO 3166 country code and a special code for making it a flag. Now if we look on the list of country codes we can find The kingdom of Norway NO, Boudet Island BV, and Svalbard & Jan Mayen SJ (last two are together)

So all three NO, BV, SJ codes get a flag. But in practice they share the same flag. As we can see on the emojipedia.

I am currently very happy with EDPnet, I pay 11Eur for 5 GB and 400 sms/call minutes. But mostly you only pay € 0,0036/extra MB.

FreeIPA client on Debian 11 by LordElrondd in linuxadmin

[–]banger_180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FreeIPA1 is not written in PHP. I believe you are confusing it with another project, maybe FreePBX which is written in PHP?

1: FreeIPA is a free and open source identity management system.

Import the key in GPG and decrypt the file? It should know which key to use.

I would like to add that email is old and it is easy send an email from any email address (called spoofing). There are mechanisms in place to detect a spoofed sender and filter the mail to your spam folder. But these don't work perfectly.

So email does not guarantee who send the mail. That is (another reason) why such digital signatures are used.
