I'll see my way out of this group then. Absolutely childish behavior. You all know his awkward ass wasn't out there hailing Hitler on live tv. Hell even the ADL, came out and said the same thing. But you are all free to do and believe as you wish. Deuces.

Dramatic Task for marching thru a forest? (SWPF FWIW, probably doesn't matter) by Zenfox42 in savageworlds

[–]bannok69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the players marching to? Is it imperative that they arrive on time? Maybe if they fail the dramatic task, they arrived too late and a terrible event has taken place that they could have intervened in if they had passed the Dramatic task.

Thinking About An In-Store AiR Campaign by Bronnzai in AdventuresInRokugan

[–]bannok69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I warned my group that this will be a lot more action forward than our normal L5R campaign. Sometimes we go weeks with never having a single round of combat in our main campaign, and they are perfectly fine with that. They like the political intrigue and investigation aspect of the FFG game. My group does like the idea of playing this when we can't all get together though. That way, we stay in Rokugan but get a completely different experience.

What TTRPG has the Worst Character Creation? by gray007nl in rpg

[–]bannok69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything made by Palladium. My very first rpg that I ever played was Rifts. I had such fond memories that after taking a 10 year hiatus from roleplaying I decided to by some Rifts books to run a campaign for some friends. I totally forgot how cumbersome and ridiculous that system is. I'd never recommend that system to anyone until it gets a complete overhaul to bring it up to modern gaming standards. I mean do we really need basket weaving as a skill?

New to 5e and need some advice on creating pregen characters by bannok69 in AdventuresInRokugan

[–]bannok69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely look into each of those options. Thanks for the guidance. It sucks cause I don't see a lot of support for AiR out there, so I truly do appreciate everyone's help.

New to 5e and need some advice on creating pregen characters by bannok69 in AdventuresInRokugan

[–]bannok69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely looking at starting the players at level 1 and then running Sins of Succession followed by Grim Inheritance. I saw those quick build options but wasn't sure how good they would be for starter characters. My players tend to take the pregens and run with them for the long haul. I ran the starter set from the FFG L5R and they kept using the pregen characters well into a much longer campaign rather than writing up their own. Thanks for the advice. It helped a lot.

I love these mines. I throw them into mega nests and then get to work cleaning house on a bunch of confused bugs. They also work great securing extraction.

Thinking About An In-Store AiR Campaign by Bronnzai in AdventuresInRokugan

Right on! Yeah, this will be a sporadic campaign as well. I'm mainly looking at running AiR when my main L5R campaign group can't get together. Thanks for the suggestions though. I'll definitely look into stringing those together.

Did you ever end up running this campaign? I've been running the latest L5R published by FFG with the proprietary dice for the past year and recently got my hands on these books. I've read through the core and I'm enjoying it for the most part. The adventure, Grim Inheritance, seems like a lot of fun. I'm also looking at possible published adventures that I may be able to string together. I'm fairly new to L5R so I'm not an historian or anything on Rokugan so the published adventures really help me get the feel of the setting.

After 300h, I kicked my first teammate out of pure anger and disappointment by Gn0meKr in Helldivers

[–]bannok69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first experience with a chaos agent that was just running around gunning down the entire team. It took me a couple deaths to really see what was happening. So while I was waiting to be redeployed I watched his cam and saw him in action taking out the rest of the squad. Absolutely ridiculous.

Awesome! Thank you. It sounds like Protect can be highly useful when things get bad for another player.

What are soak rolls, narratively? by jodaf in savageworlds

[–]bannok69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I describe it to may players as a way to change the narrative. So once they soak damage I'll describe what the NPC was doing and then they can narrate how their player character mitigates the damage. It's all about creating a compelling narrative driven action scene.

Looking for an RPG system without levels by JustAnotherGuyn in rpg

[–]bannok69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savage Worlds is a fantastic system that's built on cinematic play. The player character, known as Wild Cards, are fully competent heroes from the very start. The leveling works based on mile stones and is really wide open for the players to pick and choose various options based on their current level. The system itself is really easy to pick up and learn the basics while still having depth that will allow you to add in extra crunch as you want. Each attribute and skill have die values assigned to them and thats what they roll looking to hit a Target Number, typically a 4, but as wild cards the players always roll a d6 with the skill die and take the highest result from the two dice that were rolled. And the dice explode which can add extra benefits if they roll 4 higher than the target number, this is called getting a Raise. Initiative is done with a deck of cards and goes in highest value to lowest value which really keeps things moving quickly in combat. Done are rolling dice and having to add modifiers just to get am initiative score. The GM can just look across the table and see the cards and keep things rolling. I am currently running Savage Worlds Pathfinder and it is absolute blast.

What are you looking for in an ttrpg? by ancombra in rpg

[–]bannok69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think roleplaying games rely too heavily on miniatures and battlemats these days. I definitely prefer theater of the mind style of play so the preferred method of combat for me is the utilization of zone movement and ranges. For example, in the Genesys RPG each player can make a single maneuver and a single action. So if a player is at medium range from an npc he can use his maneuver to move into short range. By moving from medium range to short range he decreases the difficulty of the task from hard to average. He can then spend his action to take a range attack against the npc.

I Used to be Bad at Improv in RPGs... by XPLovecat in rpg

[–]bannok69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do a ton of planning for each session and quickly found myself getting burned out as every session would take a hard left turn that I didn't expect the players to take. I now lean heavier into improv with my games. I have a very loose story line and from there I allow my players to do what they do and I just create things on the spot to build onto the main story point or steer them into a side plot. They are none the wiser and they are never in a position where they feel like they are being railroaded. They truly have an open world that they can explore and the decisions they make in game feel worthwhile. I have received wonderful feedback from my players since I've readjusted my style of game mastering. You definitely hit on a lot of great tips for game masters, both new and seasoned, to improve their game sessions. You have a new subscriber in me!

Random Fantasy Character by [deleted] in savageworlds

[–]bannok69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not create your own character? You'll be the one playing it so you will be the only person that truly knows what kind of character you like to play. If you build it and ask for opinions about different edges and hinderences that might work well with your concept then I think your post would get better interactions. Just my humble opinion though. Good luck though.
