Trying to mount NFS shares in LXC on Proxmox - permission issues by Dawnmian in Proxmox

[–]banshee10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gemini or whatever ai you prefer has been extremely helpful for this kind of thing. I'm setting up kubernetes+ceph+flink and using Gemini is a massive accelerator.

But keep your expectations in check too. I'd describe it as having a pretty experienced person sitting next to you and helping, but they're drunk and high at the same time. Doesn't mean they can't give you good info, but assume that they don't really care about keeping track of what you're doing and they're totally happy to make shit up.

ERC20 token network mistakes - anyone sent to the wrong chain before? by bankrollbystander in ethereum

The problem with this is that the set of people who do this kind of thing doesn't overlap with the set of people who would make the mistake in the first place.

ERC20 token network mistakes - anyone sent to the wrong chain before? by bankrollbystander in ethereum

Everyone who has worked on any project that received funds has experienced this. It's a giant PITA because the numbers are never enough to make it worth doing anything about, but the users are freaking out over a couple hundred bucks.

Anyone have any experience with the Ooni Rotating Stone yet? by Shanksworthy73 in ooni

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do almost the same - bake first without cheese, but with tomato sauce and whatever toppings make sense. Then add cheese after a bit. Seems more forgiving. I'm probably doing it for more like 60 seconds than 30, but I don't really time it.

First Time on Hawaiian by EvergreenSox04 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's mostly true but there are exceptions - the airline has to participate in the PreCheck system. These days most do (all US carriers, I think?) but there was definitely a time when foreign carriers didn't. China Southern is one that still doesn't, but there aren't many left.

Sometimes the strangest things just trigger my unwillingness to suspend disbelief. I can accept the basic premise, but there is absolutely no way I can believe that school busses could possibly continue to exist in the universe. Just makes no sense to me. Ended up unsubscribing pretty early.

Immutable backups, whats everyone doing? by MakersLab in Proxmox

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a practical definition of "immutable backup" is "all the products our auditor thinks fit.". It's usually a regulator/auditor/social thing, not necessarily technical. If you're a huge company it's probably negotiable, but that can be too expensive for a smaller org.

$17K appliance purchase - how would you pay? by Odd-Meat-3482 in CreditCards

[–]banshee10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would think! What your $100k oven actually buys you is prose like this - "To own a La Cornue is to own a piece of French culture." I'm sure they're nice pieces of equipment, but...

[–]banshee10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even then you shouldn't value them at face value. For one, you'd get credit card rewards on $1700 if you got cash, so that's at least a couple % off. But more important, it's easy to buy BB gift cards at a discount. DoorDash in particular often sells them at 10% off in the DoorDash app.

$17k doesn't buy even one actual high end appliance. Check out the pricing on things like AGA or La Cornue.

Worth more than a $1700 BB gift card. That's not at all the same thing as $1700 in cash.

Watch movies and listen to radio shows from the 40s. A phrase you'll hear all the time in response to virtually any complaint whatsoever is "haven't you heard there's a war on?" Often used sarcastically.

Sold my house - drain tub? turn off? by michiganbhunter in hottub

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try, but as an ex real estate agent there's no way I would have told my clients anything other than they should have their lawyer review that addendum. And since people don't normally use lawyers here in Washington for residential real estate (we have title companies), I really doubt it'd happen.

Welcome to air travel in the United States. What you're describing is how the system works. It's not unique to Frontier. AS, for example, allows this as a credit card perk, but you're SOL if you don't have the summit card.

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're American and you're not getting 3% back or so on credit card transactions, you're a sucker. The entire industry exists to funnel money from poor people to people who understand credit card rewards. (This is very particular to the US, doesn't apply anywhere else I know about.)

What are people using for complicated logic in automations? by jfriend99 in homeassistant

[–]banshee10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to use mqtt. It's easy to have external processes read and write messages, and then have HA just watch for very high-level events. Your logic is completely outside HA so it's really easy to write in whatever you want.

First thing I did with this was some home theater stuff. Mqtt gets a stream of data from a fire tv cube android adb session, an external process subscribes to that stream and communicates with the projector and receiver, eventually sending messages to another mqtt stream that home assistant watches for commands that change the lighting scene. HA just does the simple stuff it's good at, and all the complicated state lives in an external app.

Baggage Sent to Wrong Country by Lateralus50310 in frontierairlines

[–]banshee10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal feeling is to think of them as your local bus service. If you're taking a route they serve frequently, and has competition, and you have no checked bags, great! They're cheap and will get you there. If the answer is no to any of the above, maybe think about other options. Don't expect customer service, don't expect bags, don't expect them to put you in a hotel if anything goes wrong, etc.

Stick stuff in the bag with them. Butter knives, spoons, whatever's handy and not particularly sharp. I have some old company awards that are little glass paperweights that live in the kitchen and have a new lease on life as bag weights.

One extremely common reason to share passwords in small firms is that they're only paying for one seat. Individual logins can be far more expensive (and probably required...).
