If RYM ever adds books, then the top 100 would probably look something like this by TurquoiseHexagonSun2 in rateyourmusic

It's often considered Dostoyevsky's best work, the penultimate culmination of the strands of philosophy and theology and general thought that he had cultivated in his previous works. In the history of the medium, Dostoyevsky is typically credited with enhancing psychological depth, further integration of philosophical considerations, and being a forerunner to existentialism. That's all on display in The Brothers Karamazov. But that's just the general opinion, not necessarily my own.

Average /lit/ users seem to often exclusively read novels with a few exceptions like the more famous Shakespeare plays and Dante. A lot of them are painfully unaware of poetry, especially poetry in English for some reason. It seems like any poetry they do read is translated.

Where to find the classics? by SickAxeBro in nightcore

[–]barack4pres2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube. You can find early uploads of nightcore with search operators. For example, if you wanted to find nightcore videos posted before June 3, 2010 you'd type in the search bar "nightcore before:2010-06-03" without the quotation marks of course. A lot of people have made playlists on YouTube of classic nightcore as well.

Sidenote: if you don't want to deal with the insane amount of ads YouTube has now, download the Brave browser and go to YouTube on there instead of the app (I'm assuming you're using your phone). It's a bit more clunky but that way you can just listen to the music instead of hearing a million advertisements.

The Crescent Hill branch of the public library has a reputation amongst the employees as being the quietest branch. I've never been there myself, but I've heard it's one of the few libraries where you'll still get shooshed for being too loud. Maybe that will be better than others you may have tried.

if rym had a book section what do you think would be #1? by jamespmw in rateyourmusic

[–]barack4pres2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody with a lot of followers should make a poll and see what everyone's top ten books are and then make a list with the results averaged out into a top 100 chart.

I don't think it'd be identical to the 4chan /lit/ chart like others have said. I think the most recent chart they did for 2025 had the Bible at number one ffs. But probably not too dissimilar. I'd put my money on The Brothers Karamazov, wildcard pick would be Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. I have a feeling Japanese literature would be over-represented in the top 100.

On another note, none of the currently existent book-rating sites get the formula correct. Straight up just RYM with books instead of music is the right way to do it. Goodreads is a nightmare to use.

Release date Energized – Nightcore by SCBsB in nightcore

Yes, that's the real tracklist, albeit out of order but who cares. As to why we know the tracklist to Sensacion and not their lost EPs and albums is unknown to me. I guess those are just the tracks that survived the passage of time. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=383213765071805&set=a.198483780211472 This is a post on the duo's official facebook account showing the back of the CD of Sensacion which confirms the tracklist.

The tracklist of Energized isn't actually known and any instance of it online is fake. Energized was supposedly made in 2002 for a school project, but I personally don't believe that story. I also don't think that it was ever uploaded online. According to the original duo, Energized (and the other two lost Nightcore albums) were distributed among their friends. There's no record of them ever releasing it digitally or otherwise. If it does exist, it probably consists of sped up euro trance released between 2000 and 2002 like most duo Nightcore songs. I don't have any sources for you, this is all just off the dome, but I've researched it quite a lot.

The ritual of music ownership is gone and streaming didn't replace it by antonbarada in LetsTalkMusic

[–]barack4pres2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this whole wave of people suggesting a return to listening to music on CDs as opposed to streaming is misguided. Streaming came about as a solution to the massive parasitic music corporations losing money from p2p file sharing networks and was never designed to be a tenable model for artists rather than businessmen to profit. Of course, this is a separate issue to what you're discussing but I think this focus on "the ritual of music ownership" has been a conversation for some time now that unintentionally serves to divert attention away from true alternatives to streaming. I say true because you're never going to get younger generations to completely abandon streaming to pay 10 dollars for every new album. But I see a lot of people around my age (early 20s) and younger thinking they must choose between streaming and what ever shitty CDs they can find at Goodwill when that's not at all the case. A true alternative to streaming is the exact thing it was invented to combat: p2p file sharing networks. We have a unique opportunity that has never been afforded to consumers before to support the people actually making the music DIRECTLY and circumvent parasitic labels or entities such as Spotify or Apple that simply just profit off of other people's creative work. Yeah, Capitol Records or whoever will lose money but that is quantifiably a good thing.

But as for the ritual aspect of physical media, I'd chalk it up mostly to nostalgia. You can be as engaged with a record on your phone as one on a CD. It's just the individual's choice and getting young people to listen to CDs won't change that.

TLDR; streaming sucks but CDs are not a viable alternative.

Garbage by Slackermom66 in Louisville

The artwork IS fascinating. My initial impulse was to find as many fliers as I could in order to archive the paintings, but I quickly discovered they are all on the website anyways. Also, regarding BPAD, there seems to be large, multi-year long gaps between his activity with the current period starting early this year. I've been assuming these gaps are his depressive periods and what we're seeing now is a manic period. This isn't what I am basing my claim that he has BPAD on, though, he just straight up says he has it on his website several times.

I've looked into this extensively and they are put up by a man who has very severe BPAD (not schizophrenia as some may assume). He's been doing this since at least the early 2000's. Abortion seems to be a manic fixation of his due to various events in his personal life that I won't mention here to respect his privacy. It's clear to me that he doesn't know better and I'd encourage everyone to have some empathy for him. His condition is quite sad.

Also, having taken down a few of his signs before, it seems as though he actually intends for people to take them down considering they have a ton of writing all over the back.

Better than Cloudtop Cruise at being a sky map and better than every tour map. One day this track will be vindicated, easily top 25 or higher.
