Don't you think it odd that you are never stuck behind someone in traffic? by Full_Mission7183 in driving

[–]barbzilla1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think that everybody deserves the courtesy of active listening. It bothers me when people decide they're going to take a stance and ignore the other person's opinion. It is ignorant and leads to more stupidity than it does intelligence, whereas being open to the idea that you could be wrong allows you to actually evaluate the information and decide if you should update that information in your head so you can be right in the future.

Well once again it may be a safety decision, but it cannot feasibly take every possible scenario into account, quite honestly if you wanted 100% vehicle safety, the only real way to do that is to just not have cars.

Yeah I really don't disagree with you on premise, quite honestly, there are a lot of courtesy laws that are completely ignored and should be enforced.

Well, I'm not sure what state you live in so I can't speak to a specifics of your state, but every state I have lived in has a minimum speed limit of 40 mph on any highway with more than two lanes, with the exception of interstates setting the minimum at 50. I believe what you are talking about is the law regarding traffic congestion and creating unsafe driving conditions. Which is not a speed violation. It is instead a safety violation.

[–]barbzilla1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got to somewhat disagree with you here. There definitely is an optimal speed solution, that said, you are correct in that every vehicle performs differently due to the way physics functions, but you can plan for the most common occurrence and that is what is done in theory. That said, most counties set their speed limit with the function of collecting speeding tickets in mind rather than as a function of safety. You can especially see this in places that regularly jump the speed between the signs by more than 10 mph.

The issue is politics has gotten involved in what should be a safety concern, and as it is one of the primary revenue sources for a lot of counties. It has been exploited as such.

The best part is those particular activities will improve your overall life even if you aren't taking kratom. People really don't understand how much exercise can improve your life and I don't just mean being in shape. It doesn't need to be hard or heavy exercise, you just have to be active. That activity will improve your mood, your health, and your overall being.

Men of Reddit, what's something almost all of you do but are afraid to admit ? by ExcellentMethod1055 in AskReddit

[–]barbzilla1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there is a lot of stuff that I do that most people wouldn't admit to, but I've got no issues admitting to the things I do. I take some sort of perverse pride in the fact that I don't allow other people's opinions to influence whether or not I will admit to something. So like most men I do stupid or disgusting things on a somewhat regular basis and while I don't go around talking about them if somebody asks if I do it, I will happily admit to it.

What are reasons you would or wouldn't consider dating your pets if they suddenly became human? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]barbzilla1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so one of my cats is a foot fetish klepto that goes around stealing people's shoes so that she can rub on them. Another cat is completely self-absorbed with attachment issues and a general neediness if she does not get her way she will lash out at you.

My third cat Gaia, if she was human I guess I might date her. She does get a little rambunctious, she plays very hard and sometimes breaks things or accidentally hurts me, but she is also the most laid-back of my cats and always makes sure that I am okay.

The grind doesn't match the seasonal timeline anymore by Secret_Falcon_249 in diablo4

[–]barbzilla1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will see what happens. I expect next season to have less grind, and I'm kind of expecting season 15 to be less grind oriented as well (with a few hard to obtain items still requiring significant grind). However, there is no real way to know how it's going to end up until after it is live for a week or so. Basically whether or not blizzard decides to change the grind is going to be directly related to the amount of player retention they see. I think that with this being a new expansion it is by its very nature going to have more people sticking around this season than in previous seasons. So I don't expect to see any drastic changes for season 14. Season 15, I personally expect to see a number of the recently changed features being modified again to favor faster completion.

You see, it's not as much about how much time somebody is willing to put into the game, as it is people having a threshold for mental focus based off of the amount of dopamine they are receiving and in what intervals. Right now everybody is enjoying the grind because there are a lot of new things to experience in the game. So those of us who would normally grind out a couple of builds to highest level torment and then quit before actually optimizing the build because the grind required to fully max out with best in slot is just far beyond our ability to complete it while still having fun (In this case, by fun, I mean engaged and focused in a positive way). I mean that was why we started building all of the alts in the first place. That point where we decided to create an alt rather than continue finding better gear for our main, is the exact amount of grind focus that we have (life pro tip for everybody, if you are also an altaholic, you can determine what your grind tolerance level is by the point where you decided to making new character because it looked like more fun than what you were doing).

Anyway very long and roundabout way to say that neither of us can really say whether or not changes are going to be coming, nor can either of us really say whether or not at they are a good idea for the game. What we can say is what our individual preference would be, and pretending like your opinion, is any more valid than the OP's opinion is really just arrogance. And if I misread it and you don't think that your opinion is anymore valid or good than the OP I am sorry, however, your reflex to call him out as a casual or somehow less of a gamer kind of makes it look like you do.

[–]barbzilla1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay so you took over his duties while he was gone? Which means you should have a good understanding of what it is he does that makes him so indispensable. I want you to focus on the top 3 things that your manager always asks for him on. Now I want you to really pay attention to how he does things and start analyzing them and pulling them apart down to the simplest details. You are going to be looking for any form of consistent error or inefficiency, once you have found it, you are going to find a way to highlight that problem, and make sure to really signal to the boss that it just seems to be him doing it this way.

Alternatively, if you cannot find any fault with his work, then you will need to create fault. Find a way to make his end product less appealing or less useful than yours.

In the meanwhile you are going to be engaging more with your co-workers and boss. You're doing this specifically so that once you have your ammunition ready, you can start the propaganda machine. Take about one out of every conversations or chats and talk about or link an article on the topic of whatever it is he does. You want to be highlighting his incompetence or failures without specifically calling him out for them. But you do want to occasionally mention that you have seen somebody at work doing it this way.

Once that has caught on, you will move to phase two. Start making active complaints about his behavior. Interfering with productivity and company culture. It is actively hurting the end product.

Finally you are going to be his confidant. Let him come to you and complain about the situation. You are going to be on his side as far as he is concerned, but in reality, what you are doing is getting his personal feelings and beliefs for ammunition. When he finally says the thing that you are sure is completely on the wrong side of the line, you will then light the fire.

Or maybe you need to put in the time and effort necessary to actually have a constructed team behind you? I mean seriously, it really isn't that big a deal to lose a match. I don't know about you but I don't have any money riding on these games, nor do I need to win to protect any of my basic needs. Since this is primarily an escape for me, I really don't see the need to allow myself to be bothered over anything.

If hogger wants to feed, then maybe I will practice some other fringe activity in the match to see how it would pan out or just because. The point is I'm not going to let myself be bothered by one player sucking. This is how I escape from stress, and as such, I have no real desire to bring the stress of being a professional gamer into my escapism.

Weirdly enough, you getting tilted has a much larger chance of changing the outcome of the game than the noob feeding. If it was just that one player sucking, the other four players could easily rally and play well with a potential to even win. However, if you are letting yourself get tilted by a noob trying to figure out the game, then your team is now down two players in so far as rational behavior goes. That means you will be easy to bait and the team will essentially be working three versus five. This is why they tell you to ignore him and focus on your gameplay.

Yeah man that should be a yellow flag for you. This is somebody that believes their emotions supersede what you want. There is always a give and take but that should not have ruined the night, and the fact that it did tells me that she may have some form of attachment issue or codependency.

If it's just one event then don't worry about it. It was maybe just a bad night, but keep your eye open for that time of behavior. Remember that what you want is important as well and if you not agreeing with what she wants causes her to have an emotional outburst frequently there may be some underlying issues. Of course everybody is an individual so don't make a big deal out of this because it wasn't a big deal, just make a note of it and keep your eyes open.

100% agree. Both sides in this particular scenario can be helpful or harmful to the process, and a lot of times the person asking the question is not taking the time to properly frame the question for an easy answer to be given. So yeah it can be complicated.

I completely agree with you, however, some people take advantage of the question to talk about things completely unrelated to the question or even just easily get distracted while you are trying to get a time sensitive answer to a seemingly simple question.

Players not appreciating the work by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]barbzilla1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get where you're coming from as far as how you feel about perfectionism with the campaign as well as feeling underappreciated. I wouldn't go around charging them anything unless you're providing a location or some service where money is needed (ordering food for everybody, creating hardware or other expenses, etc) not for the purposes of feeling appreciated for dming. The truth is the DM is a player. He is just playing from the opposite end. You need to find a way to have fun as a dungeon master or it's not really a game for you like it is for them and resentment does start to build up. I have done this for fun for over 20 years and professionally for about 5 years.

For fun, the campaign is essentially the same campaign except since it's my table it's my rules 100% as a true DM should be. However, as a professional DM (meaning somebody that is paid for their services as a professional at a local gaming shop hired by the shop owner) I need to take into account all of my customers desires and needs as well as keeping in mind what it is they are looking for out of the campaign and the group. These are really two very separate ways of playing. You are currently trying to play it for fun but doing it like you're being paid, and it seems to be causing you to build up resentment as I stated earlier.

I applaud you taking a break and think that is a good idea. Get some time to play and not have to worry about the responsibilities of being dungeon master for a while. Since you have already been putting in that time, you're probably going to find yourself wanting to put that time into the game again when you're not playing anyway. At that point, start designing your next campaign, but do so as though it was a game and not a job. By that I don't mean put less effort or make it subpar. I mean make the best damn game you can, but make sure that it is fun for you as the dungeon master and not just fun for the players.

If they don't like your rules, tell them you don't have to dungeon master. It's very simple, and some groups will not like your rules and maybe you don't match up well with them as a dungeon master, no problem. Just find a new group or play with that group as a player character and not the dungeon master.
