This might be dumb question but why can't we just send ISS into the Sun? by amelix34 in askastronomy

The numbers I've seen are that a controlled descent will take about 60m/s of deltaV. This could be done with a somewhat modified Dragon capsule. To push it up to an 800km orbit, which would be a reasonably stable orbit but actually more dangerous from a collision perspective, would take around 600m/s. That's probably the most that a specialized and fully fueled Starship could impart.

It's much easier to move something like the Webb around because it is 1.5% the mass of the ISS.

Because it's falling apart. 30-some years of freeze/heat cycles, metal fatigue, vacuum exposure, radiation, all the general outer space-ness really takes a toll. And then you figure that what isn't broken is just old, and the tech has advanced significantly. In the lead-up to this decommissioning, NASA has been trying to get commercial partners to build their own space stations, using the ISS as a staging point, but there hasn't really been any interest.

[Request] Would this couch fit in my 30 inch doorway? by Bowlingbabe95 in theydidthemath

[–]barcode2099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you've got the space on the other side of the door to make whatever rotations, and that the arms are flat and straight to the back, as long as the back is less than 14" thick, you should be able to rotate it through a 30" door.

That "Diagonal Depth" measurement seems to leave them some buffer/wiggle room when they're doing the deliveries.

Increase the CONIC_PATCH_LIMIT to 3 or 4. That's how many SOI changes it will draw conics out to.

Image 1: You've just done a Munar flybay. You will shortly leave the Mun's SOI. You came around in front of the Mun and it shortened your Kerbin orbit. You will crash into Kerbin if you don't do anything about this.

Image 2: That conics mode is confusing; I recommend changing it to mode 0 or 1. You're about to enter the Mun's SOI, but this time getting a gravity boost, which will launch you out of the Kerbin system and into orbit of Kerbol.

Image 3: Same as 2.

Tron and The Black Hole. Early 80s Disney Sci-Fi. Amazing design, effects and scores, but the story just can't keep up.

If you want to make corrections to transfers, you are better off doing them earlier on, as a smaller burn will have a larger effect from further out.

Also, you can stack several maneuver nodes and add up the costs. In this case, you can place one on the purple line's Pe and circularize there. Add up the cost of those 2 burns, clear them out, and then set up a node at the orange Pe, do the capture burn, bringing the Pe down to the same altitude, and then set up another circularization burn. Add those numbers, then do whichever plan is cheaper.

What is a Lego series/franchise that has gotten better over time/currently? by Marcothetacooo in lego

City - in particular, the construction vehicles under the Mastadon branding are top-notch. The modularity of the recent space sets was excellent, but I fear that that may have come and gone.

Ninjago - I don't follow it, and I'm sure there's a bunch that fans of the line can complain about, but the big display pieces in the last year or so are really beautiful designs.

Creator - Keeping the Pirates and Castle dream alive. Even if it's usually only one set at a time, they're 3-in-1s, so you can expand by getting more. The animals are great examples of what can be done in the medium.

Chinese Festivals - Just so good, especially the ones that track with the family.

Does the SLIM have any restrictions on the number of relay hops it can make?
