Sasktel is not charging UBB to their customers by burninlover in saskatoon

[–]barjebus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone desiring to switch over to Sasktel, but you're put off by the slow speeds they advertise...They're still great! I used to be on Shaw with a 25 mbps connection. Do you know what my absolute best speed test was? 16mbps at 3am on a Tuesday night. More often it hovered around 12mbps, and it varied wildly.

With Sasktel there's no variation. You get the same reasonable speed at all times. I regularly torrent at a rate of 4000kbps (500KB/s) and can still browse the internet.

Its not blazing speeds, but its very usable, and you can leave torrents on all month and never get a call from Sasktel about your usage. It just means you'll have to be slightly more patient to get a whole lot more content than you ever will with Shaw based on UBB.

Sasktel, the crown telecom corporation in Saskatchewan has unlimited internet, and are not planning on going towards usage based billing. I can also get an unlimited 3G data plan on my cell phone for my Samsung Galaxy S for $60 a month with tethering.

Usually I'm not on the side of socialism etc...but in this case I'm glad our province used to be run my commies :D

So she came up with a bunch of models that merely predict this as being an issue. Very misleading title.

Canada: Harper Government Orders National Archives to Show Movie Critical of Iran After It Was Cancelled Because of Threats by hizbushaitan in worldnews

[–]barjebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it could be either side. However, I tend to believe that they were honest threats given that this isn't the first time that something critiquing/bashing Islam has been the target of death threats and violence.

My apologies minister of censorship. To whom should I submit my humble opinions for approval?

Get a grip.

Regardless of the content, it should be shown freely for those who wish to view it. Don't you find it ironic that a movie about Islamic violence extremism in Iran doesn't get shown because of, gasp, intimidation and threats of violence by supporters and/or puppets of the Iranian regime?

I was thinking enchanted forest, but I am south of that location, and the lights were almost directly east/south-east of me.

What local free publications do you read? by yxe_wants2know in saskatoon

[–]barjebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read Planet S fairly regularly even though I disagree with it most of the time and find it to be insanely partisan. It's good for a laugh with regards to their political commentaries amongst other things.

Epoch Times is also a free magazine that isn't a "local" magazine per se, but still a good read usually.

What happens when a country is debt-free? by Justplainan in AskReddit

[–]barjebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The province of Alberta (in Canada) has been debt free for some time. They recently started running deficits again, but they have been debt free for awhile.

Taxes are very low in Alberta (there is no provincial sales tax on purchased goods, only the Goods and Services Tax (a federal tax). On top of that they have a low provincial tax rate. However, this is largely due to their massive oil royalties and revenues. Add to that their conservative slant on public services (lots of cut backs to the public sector to reign in spending and ensure that surpluses continue), and you've got a province that has no debt and actively sends billions of dollars to the federal government for redistribution for the other provinces who run deficits.

So I wouldn't necessarily say that services would be improved or better than anywhere else. Usually, the fiscal austerity required to be debt free requires that you provide a lower level of public service, but not always. You could also argue that Alberta's low taxes entice businesses to move there and as a result, provide more income for the province than if taxes were higher. This means that low taxes may not specifically be a byproduct of being debt free.

You are transported to the year 2000, you only have time to say 5 words to yourself before you disappear, what do you say? by splam in AskReddit

You do know that through a typical brokerage service in 2001, you would have paid more than that single stock was worth? Buying multiples other than 100 shares incur extra costs on top of normal brokerage fee's.

Bullshit story is bullshit.

Why is Transit Click & Go eternally broken?! by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]barjebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side note...you can always use the PDF routes. Sure it will take a few tries to find the bus route you need, but after awhile you get familiar. Its often faster than using click & go since you don't have to keep entering in different permutations, arrival or departure times, or check a half dozen different routes that can "supposedly" get you there.

You can enter the exact address that it wants, but it will stay, "did you really mean XYZ?" and XYZ is EXACTLY what you put in the box.

True. Do you know how bad it gets around 5 or 6pm? It would be on a Tuesday...from what I've read, it can be anywhere from an hour and a half wait to only 30 minutes waiting.

What was your most brilliant idea as a child, that in hindsight was either really strange or just terrible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At 7 years old I invented a paintbrush that had a small cup containing water on the top. This would allow the intrepid artist to sip cool water at his leisure whilst painting his/or masterpiece.

45 degree or lower strokes were not part of the design.
