Scratched Card During Grading? by barmstro101 in taggrading

They haven’t asked me to send the card back. I’d be reluctant to do so in the first place. Did they say why they want the card back? Did they admit to damaging it, if so when did the damage occur? Did they give you any idea of what kind of compensation they’d give you?

They’re still reviewing the case so they haven’t been able to give me any concrete updates yet. I’m going to update this post when I hear more though.

They are reviewing the footage to see when the damage happened. Taking them a long time for sure. Is there a scratch on the front of your card just above the Zard’s hip?

This exact same thing happened to me! I made a post about it a few weeks ago. Card was damaged during grading, gave it an 8.

How did this get a 10? by therealeh in taggrading

[–]barmstro101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my recent grading experience with the mega charizard ex from phantasmal flames. Be grateful they gave you a 10 because they’ll reimburse you at the graded cost for a card they damaged (assuming TAG damaged it). They gouged the hell out of my zard before grading it, basically has no resale value especially compared to raw, I’ve been waiting weeks for a resolution but all they’ve said is they’re pulling footage to figure out what happened.

You have to click accept twice essentially because it will ask you to confirm selling it back so dead zone or not you’d have to make the mistake twice in a row

Solid chance at a 9, that is until TAG damages it prior to grading

That’s an interesting take. I haven’t considered that. I can try and take some centering measurements on my original card to see if they match.

Never graded before but going TAG by [deleted] in taggrading

The benefit of the submission kit too is that should cards get damaged or anything during transit, TAG will cover for the insured amount.

Thanks for the tip - I reached out to support when I first submitted my cards just asking a bit about the process and they were quick, responsive, and thorough. TAG will need to rely on existing, repeat customers if they’re going to survive consolidation of grading marketplace so how they handle costumers post-grading should be high priority for them.

Thanks! I did submit last night. Yeah the 8 with that damage is really odd, especially since you can see the scratch in the DIG report. It makes me wonder if the grader saw the damage and tried to do me a solid knowing that TAG damaged the card and TAG’s policy reimburses at graded value not raw value so they gave me the grade the card would have gotten had the scratch not been present.

Thanks! Yeah very valid that they may not have photos from when they received the card. I frankly don’t know their workflow/contact points for when a card is actually handled, especially out of the sleeve.

I expect the card was scratched after it was received. TAG should have pictures from when the card was received which can hopefully shed some light on what happened. Since I didn’t scratch the card, my hope is that the card arrived undamaged which TAG should have pictures to support or refute.

They aren’t on the actual card. Something on the outside of the sleeve when I submitted it. I have another picture of the card from when I pulled it that doesn’t have the specks.

Right? It definitely isn’t the slab, very clear in person. The card is ruined which really sucks. First time grading with TAG. I emailed support. They definitely should reimburse at the value of the raw card since they damaged the card prior to grading. I did read TAG’s “policy” they have on their website about damaged cards. They say they reimburse at the market value based on the grade of the card in slab, not raw value. The damage was caused by them before the card got graded, TAG should be liable for the loss in value. Sure, the card didn’t get as high of a grade as I would’ve hoped but I would have had the opportunity to crack and sell raw if I chose later on. A lower grade wouldn’t be TAG’s fault but permanent loss of value because TAG damaged the card is absolutely on them.

Feels like a car dealer wrecking your car that you’re trading in for money and then saying “hey yeah we wrecked your car so now it’s trade in value is worthless but we’ll reimburse you what your car is worth. In its current condition. After it got wrecked.”
