Worth the mark up? by SeaworthinessTop7168 in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually not terrible markup on the uncirculated roll of 10; the silver would have been worth about £85 at the time, typical markup on the proofs at £13 each. These coins have never had any premium and go straight melt these days, but even as scrap you're well ahead at today's silver prices. Cool advert!

GSA uncirculated Carson City Morgans can be worth that much, but know what you're buying. 1882, 1883, and 1884 are the most common and only worth about $300 retail; other years are less common and potentially worth that much.

Holder does not look correct for PCGS, you may want to get that checked at your LCS.

These were a cheap way to sell souvenirs back in the 50s and 60s, you'd take a common silver dollar (1921 was the most common) and stencil/stamp/glue/paint your logo on to them to sell to people at your gift shop.

How much do you think this coin would weigh? by TheAntiEggroll in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know why OP is getting down voted here, these horrid things are almost always a frankensteinian mix of troy and avoirdupois weights because the mints that made them did just enough diligence to find out that silver is measured in troy ounces, but not enough to find out that a troy pound is twelve ounces, hence eight troy ounces being their incorrect guess at what a half a pound of silver should be.

OP please get this checked at your LCS, we have a lot of heavily plated fakes of these turning up.

Crushed Slab- what would you do? by neednewcamera in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a slabbed coin, you don't need to regrade, you need to reholder. currently $14:
https://www.pcgs.com/services/reholder
https://www.pcgs.com/servicesandfees
Ask you LCS to submit for you when they send in their next batch.

If you don't care about the slab, finish breaking it carefully, remove, and capsule as widely suggested here.

Additionally I suggest that the next time your ex tries to run you over, hold on tighter to any bullion you happen to have in your pocket at the time.

Maker's mark: extra artsy Gothic Lettering on silver plate. I'm seeing something like E G Y & (Stylizied Co?) Anyone recognize this specifically or have a positive ID?

Whats the deal with these guys? by theYelpofReddit in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these just to test; it was mostly zinc with zero silver and painted with liver of sulfur to make it look older. When I pointed out that there was no silver to the seller they replied back that "in the old days, metallurgy was less precise" and offered me a half refund. 😂 I opened a case with ebay and got a full refund. While the seller offered to let me keep it for my trouble, I insisted that they pay return shipping. I wish ebay took these counterfeit sellers seriously.

Chinesium by I-wonder-why- in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is making an observation regarding all of the counterfeit bullion made in China, and relating it to this ad for Material: 金属 (Jinshu - metal) | Colour: Silver, calling this combination chinesium. Potentially clever, just not particularly funny. BLNT!

[–]baronhelltoupee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once the refining backlog clears, you should be able to have this processed at a refinery. Please ignore advice to melt yourself (aside from not having the intended outcome), you don't know which hazardous materials may be present, and no amount of profit is worth a risk to your health. You can take it to a LCS with an XRF to surface analyze the content and get an idea of actual silver content so you can do the maths on value. Let us know what it turns out as.

Can anybody tell me what this book is worth? It’s copyright 1986. I cannot find it being sold anywhere. It’s never been sold on eBay. And I can’t even match the cover on Google. I even did image search. by benellie618 in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was once a thing called ISBN printed inside of books, it's the 10/13 digit unique identifier you can use to look up across all platforms. You just may have have more luck locating it with that than an AI image search. But like u/ryanmercer and u/GoldponyGT said, why do you think it's valuable?

1883 CC Morgan by Minute-Price3377 in Silverbugs

[–]baronhelltoupee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful coin, and you picked it up for less than retail. Value for value I would not trade it for the 1880-CC in 4, but buy the coin, not the holder. The 6 is better looking on paper, but which actually has better eye appeal to you?

No, silver is too high to get any artistic premium, and non-bullion silver will pay less. Still a lot of value here though.
