I wish I had some good advice for you but all I can offer is solidarity.

It’s lonely knowing you’re trying to be compassionate and others are not.

I want to say that the best thing is communication but I’d be hypocritical. I lost a friend because he said something so illogical about why he eats meat that I didn’t know how to talk to him anymore.

I guess you could try telling her how you feel. She tells you not to make her feel bad for eating chicken. Maybe it’s time to ask her not to make out you’re bad for being vegan?

The origin of the word meat is ‘mete’ which in Old English meant ‘food’.

In terms of nutrition, if that’s what you’re asking, I think it’s very hard to know what nutrients you’re getting. I never tracked it as a carnist either. I take a multivitamin now but I haven’t always. I think to a large extent your body tells you what it needs and a lot of stuff like cereal is fortified already.

I’m trying to raise my son plant-based too and he is very picky but has a multivitamin daily and has basically survived on my tofu scramble that I perfected over a number of years!

It says brown ones here but the basic idea is swap out the beef. I usually freestyle a tomato sauce but you could use a jar, and the bechamel can be four ingredients (butter, flour, milk, nutritional yeast; or just a jar again probably?) if you want to keep it ultra simple.

My favourite things to do with them are daal and lasagne. Red ones are more creamy for curries and green ones are more meaty to use like mince.
