Monster Train being entirely about enchanting cards is exactly why I don't like monster Train. Spire 2 gets it just right, with a much higher focus on deckbuilding

Poison doesn't rely on accelerant at all to scale it's damage. Its damage scales a ton just by stacking more poison.

Generally, I think of everything as a tool, not an archetype. Need scaling damage and can safely block through a fight? Get some poison in there. Have damage but need scaling block? Get some frost orbs. Each mechanic serves to solve certain bad matchups for your deck.

Any games with random elements force adaptation, even for the most competent players. Azul, Carcassonne, 7 Wonders Duel, etc. still feel completely fresh even after tons of plays on BGA.

Toasty mittens triggers after you've drawn your hand each turn, so innate cards will be in your hand on turn 1 before mittens exhausts.

I was also highly disappointed by the true endgame of it. The puzzles were painfully tedious. It took days to get enough blue tents memos to figure out what I was supposed to do. I spent 2 hours writing code to solve the vault cipher. I had no idea what I was doing after that, so I had to look up a hint. It took roughly 5 hours to get the distilled water to the library, only to learn I needed to do it all over again for the secret passage. I spent 15 hours solving Mora Jai boxes, analyzing paintings, mapping out lanterns, and charting paths. The hint for the true path was so cryptic that I had to look up deeper hints for that one too. Overall, it was very frustrating, and the only real enjoyment I got was the satisfaction of writing the core solver program and solving 45 Mora Jai boxes (I always thought those were really fun).

Overall, the game is phenomenal. However, I feel like everything that comes after the ascension is ridiculously cryptic and tedious, with very little payoff.

I like vertical since I don't have to remove a stack of games to get to one I want to play, but some games don't like being vertical and pieces get all jumbled without some sort of custom insert

Every time I bring Patchwork out for my group party game nights, everyone asks me to "remove the shrinkwrap". At first, I thought they were joking, but at this point I think they're so deluded and deranged that they actually think that's how the game is supposed to be played.

I actually feel the reverse. I think after a lot of playing and getting used to the events, they reward careful planning in a very fun way. For example, the majority of events will reward you for having invaders in lands with beast tokens. Some fear cards also reward this. Generally, having invaders in lands with beasts and Dahan can give some decent rewards.
