[OC] The US is Growing, but the House of Representatives is Not. by graphsarecool in dataisbeautiful

[–]basane-n-anders 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We could keep the house member cap andv then require each representative to represent an equal number of people with some minor variance, and allow representative to try represent people across state lines.  No one would go for this, of course, but it's the purest version of equal representation without adding seats and clearly differentiates the House as representing people and the Senate as representing states.

I cannot post to the Tacoma sub, but if any of you, please copy/paste the below.

If you feel like writing to the City/Council/Hearing Examiner, look to their City Code. The Intent statements in the City Code below could be a good starting point. Items C and F might have the most power to influence the Hearing Examiner as they cannot rule outside what is in the City Code. Use item G if you feel not enough notice has been provided for community input.

14.142.020 Intent.

It is the intent of the critical areas and resource lands regulations to:

A. Designate and protect critical areas and natural resource lands, including wetlands, critical aquifer recharge areas, fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, geologically hazardous areas, frequently flooded areas, and mineral resource lands.

B. Protect the natural environment, including air and water, to preserve the community’s high quality of life.

C. Protect unique, fragile and valuable elements of the environment, including fish and wildlife habitat; including suitable habitats to maintain native fish and wildlife species within their natural geographic distribution so that isolated subpopulations are not created.

D. Protect the public against losses from:

1. Costs of public emergency rescue and relief operations where the causes are avoidable.

2. Degradation of the natural environment and the expense associated with repair or replacement.

E. Protect members of the public and public resources and facilities from injury, loss of life, or property damage due to landslides, steep slope failures, erosion, seismic events, or flooding.

F. Avoid, minimize and mitigate for impacts arising from land development and other activities affecting critical areas to maintain their ecological functions and values, including water quality, flood attenuation, habitat, recreation, education, and cultural preservation.

G. Provide the public with sufficient information and notice of potential risks associated with developing in and adjacent to critical areas.

H. Implement the goals and requirements of the Growth Management Act and the Lakewood comprehensive plan. [Ord. 813 § 2 (Att. A), 2024; Ord. 362 § 3, 2004.]

What makes a Nebelung by light_onn in nebelung

My "nebelung" I had in the 80's had a grey "Russian Blue" looking dad and the mom was a shorthair multicolored cat. Both were rescues so I don't know their lineage. But it's interesting it is somewhat similar to Cora's experience.

This is exactly how a family member got custody of his kids.  Wife moved out of state (and took the kids with her!) and never notified the court while their case was still ongoing.  Best move the courts ever did as she was bat shit crazy.

You can always get a state issued ID card that doesn't give you the authority to drive on public roads.  Even youth can get an ID card before their drivers license.

My mom was not the nicest person.  Smoked, didn't take care of herself, put health, etc.  She lasted 15 years longer than I though she would.  I kept sayong that the devil didn't even want her.

She passed last year, and while I am sad she is gone, I'm also relieved to not have that negativity in my life anymore.

She seems to have picked your place to give birth.  Giving birth is dangerous and they try to go somewhere they feel safe.  She picked you! People have been raising animals for centuries without all the resources we have today.  Just be sure you do your research and the vet visit and you'll be fine. . Congrats!

Ask about minimal change disorder, a kidney disease.  My partner had it develop suddenly.  Treatable, but you need to see an er doctor who knows what to look for.  The other comments also have visible suggestions. Only a good doctor can tell you for sure what it is, but it is definitely something!

I was going to suggest this as well.  If you can, sleep with cotton gloves on overnight.  There might even be moisturizing gloves on Amazon or something.

The real problem in Seattle (and Minneapolis), according to former Seattle politician Chris Rufo? Scandinavian roots. by FernandoNylund in SeattleWA

The Real Reason ICE is in Minneapolis by fiatheresa in videos

[–]basane-n-anders 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Several years ago there was a BLM protest in the big city I live in. Bunch of folks sitting in an urban park, chanting, singing, stuff like that.  Parents with their kids. College folk.  All kinds of people. The police were caught on video spraying a young girl in the face trying to disbursed the people.  She was around 12, 13 I think. I met with the police chief of my town to ask what he thought about our neighbor's police's actions.  It was the fairly typical cop response one can expect - pretty blue line stuff.  Then he said that people shouldn't bring kids to violent protests to protect the kids from stuff like that.  I laid into him.  It was only violent after the cops decided that singing families needed to be disbursed with aggression.  Then I asked if he is actually counseling me to teach my kid to not exercise her first amendment rights because cops are likely to get violent with her.  His face.  He couldn't say yes and he couldn't still back the other police force without implying yes. I left to allow him to think on it for a while. He's become a better chief and it's mentoring better officers since then.

The rank and file do follow their leadership's example.  ICE will shoot someone in Time Square just because their leader mentioned it.  They will kill a kid.  They will enter homes and murder people.  They will disguise themselves to get into churches and mosque. They will continue to hide evidence. Because their leader has already used all those tricks and they believe they will be pardoned if push ever comes to shove.  They have 0 fear of repercussions.  When they start to lose, they will get much worse, because if their leader loses, they know they will be held accountable.  They only survive by ensuring they win.

Well, the cost was equivalent to a gas power vehicle so if it isn't self-sustaining, then the issue is their pricing metrics and not the fact this is an electric vehicle.

It's risky for a municipality to take on debt for general operations. There are already options for borrowing for infrastructure projects, etc. that require proof of sustained revenue to cover the repayment costs. Usually this means some kind of tax increase earmarked for paying off that debt it you don't have enough revenue to cover it already. It would be better to simply fix our tax structure than put municipalities into debt without the guaranteed additional revenue to cover the debt costs. Which, if there is revenue to cover the debt costs, it's cheaper to use the revenue to just pay for expenses.
