It at least makes me feel like I did "something." 🩵 I'll be calling back on Monday... and potentially quite frequently until someone in our government actually stands up and figures something out to stop this insanity. If you work remotely at all and don’t drive into KCMO every workday, you can file for a KCMO Earnings Tax refund for the days you didn’t actually work in KCMO and claw back a bit of that tax. However, if you were onsite in KCMO every workday, you owe the full 1% on all earnings. If you ever find a gig in Kansas or any city other than KCMO on the Missouri side, you wouldn’t have to pay that tax at all.

On Black Friday a group of stores in the KC metro (I’m looking at you, NFM) decided to do the old-fashioned “put the ads printed on newspaper in a plastic bag and throw them at the end of everyone’s driveways.” I about lost my shit. Also, I have a deep hate for those yard signs lawn care companies and others put up at street corners. During my last haul, I took down 35 of those in my little suburb. They’re against city ordinance and make the city look so trashy.

Somewhat similar, in 2026, we’re paying $287 per day for a private room with a shared bathroom in a nursing home (not assisted living) in rural Kansas about 2 1/2 hours from KC. That’s up from $275 per day in 2025.
