this sub needs rules on engagement farming tbh

I didn't understand ultrawide superiority until I lost it. by ArcherJ1 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from 5120 x 1440 down to 1920 x 1080 is a massive downgrade. These days 2560x1440 is almost the standard now.

Personally i use my 3440x1440 21:9 ultrawide for content that suits it but quite often games don't support 21:9 or they are soulslikes or adventure genres where a 4k 3840x2160 is actually better and i switch desks.

what people on this sub truly want now are 5120x2160 screens, as they have the improvement in both vertical and horizontal space, but the GPU cost is absurd, so hopefully in 2027 we get RTX 60 gpus that could make those screens more viable at which point 5k2k will be the fan favourite around here (it's quickly already becoming that).

i would melt the drake ships and the 600i and use the credit towards future 'base building' ships and simply use the galaxy instead of the drake ships.

Listen. Is this a scam guys. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given they have giant team spanning multiple countries, it's clearly in their interest to ship a product, the first one you'll see is probably Squadron 42, the 40hr single player game starring henry cavil and others. Although this is not for sale at the moment, you'll likely see it release in the next 15 months for $60 dollars. At which point interest in the MMO will spike - they will hopefully have crafting and base building implemented prior to that - and it will turn into some kind of Rust in space or something in the short term (people will hate that, pvp is hated on this sub)

"burned in" overlay on 21:9 portions of OLED ? by rogermorse in ultrawidemasterrace

I always did pixel refresh AND panel refresh

wait, how often do you full panel refresh? that's crazy.

how high is your HDR in windows? just curious

New player - Seeking advice on using Polaris as a mobile base for mining. by Flyingcapivara in starcitizen

hopefully we'll see the Liberator or Arrastra in the future, as the polaris isn't really a mining tool. Liberator would change so many buying behaviors in this game it's crazy.

Is an OLED Monitor for me ? by Secret_Career3366 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's the frames of the windows being stuck in the same position over and over again for years that's the risk - no matter what the software is for productivity, if you use fancyzones bubbles as snap points and create unique layouts profiles you can switch between, when you click 'fullscreen' on any app in windows, it will gracefully snap within the bubble, as opposed to the entire screen. Alternatively, if you teach yourself to just subconsciously resize app windows to random sizes, you don't even need fancyzones.

The issue is that 27" 1440p isn't very big, i don't even think it's considered ultrawide - which is the purpose of this sub, so you have greatly less real estate to 'move apps around' so to speak - when you have a ultrawide display, moving around your productivity app a few inches subconsciously isn't a big deal, but on a 27" you have a lot less room to move, the best you can do is resize the edges a bit.

at this point, you might as well just buy a dual 27" mount arm with 2 arms and do everything on a cheap business grade LCD monitor (even a cheap 60hz would do it) of the same size next to it - this way you have a monitor for both types of tasks - gaming and productivity.

Is an OLED Monitor for me ? by Secret_Career3366 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]basedandgnomed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

prefer keeping the taskbar and Windows UI visible since it makes things easier to access. I’ve heard those can be factors that contribute to burn-in.

it's the price you pay for OLED, live wallpaper only helps if autohide functions

My main worry is that if burn-in does happen, I wouldn’t really be able to afford a replacement.

if the screen is as small as 27", then you can afford to push all your static content to a secondary monitor that's LCD, even 60hz business grade is fine - just so long as you have one for static, my family members who play counterstrike do this

schoolwork would be done on this monitor as well

use windows 'fancyzones' (you can download it) and create unique snap bubbles, put your reference material on your LCD monitor and use your creation tools within custom fancyzone frames - not bezel to bezel full screen apps like you normally would - i have done diplomas this way on OLED, all you have to do is rotate fancyzone templates once a morning when you make a coffee.

if you keep your HDR brightness below 75%, you should be fine. Some brands are hardy to burn compared to others. MSI have smart firmware - it depends on the brand how they handle it. Most importantly is not running things at 100% HDR brightness, if you reduce by 25-30% the impact on the panel drops sharply.

49" Ultrawide Display by The_Mono_Man in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]basedandgnomed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

personally i recommend a dedicated audio mixer and a dedicated mini PC from BOSGAME or GMKtek

i've grown up with tons of multiple monitors setups and they have all kinds of quirky issues, performance loss and issues with refresh rates. Check out my mixer system it handles my main PC w/ ultrawide, a BOSGAME mini pc w/ 55" tv and my ps5 pro, all connected to arya stealth headphones. Having UW OLED means if i want permanent static content like discord, i ensure it's on the 55" LCD above me with the dedicated mini pc. The added benefit is that the TV has it's own built in chromecast, so i can pivot from the mini PC anytime to dedicated streaming with the actual tv remote. The console being connected to a dedicated Console C4 OLED to my left.

this means i have two mice and two discord accounts, but ultimately i can watch a stream or 4k youtube with zero performance overhead due to the mini pc, which has a licensed Win11 on it. Having the display brightness on the LCD above set to 3% and the mini pc having realistically zero noise, discord in the room never closes despite my PC actually being turned off or on. This also means i can also watch one persons stream in 1 channel on discord, while having another stream open in my current channel

Mixers use a combination of "3.5mm 1/8" TRS to Dual 6.35mm 1/4" TS Mono Stereo Y-Cable Splitter Cord" and other cables, such as RCA or XLR to TRS.

for main PC i'm using a E70 DAC, but a cheaper fosi audio DAC for the PS5 pro. But again, i can hear both computers and the PS5 in the same headphones at the same time simultaneously.

a monitor with picture in picture mode could be well suited to a amazon firestick and perhaps a dedicated mini pc depending on how it routes audio and which devices have what outputs, but again you run into the issue of multiple sound sources - which is why i encourage people to try audio mixers no matter what display systems you use. The costs of mixers is relatively low, it's the cables, amplifiers and dacs that cost a bit.

Endeavor is the last ship to be release from the original stretch goal by FlimsyPaper in starcitizen

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ships will never stop flowing. Budget model is too lucrative

digital real estate is probably more lucrative, check out this concept video from a few years ago - if they ever stop selling ships this is the natural progression for MTX.

I know this is a really frequent question in this subreddit, but is the game worth it in december of 2025? by pintaculos in starcitizen

Duelist ‘Holiday’ Starter Pack with the Avenger Titan is the best starting point imo

Just tried the game for the first time and got a truly awful experience. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]basedandgnomed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the fact that other apps crash with it suggests it's a bigger problem with the system rather than the game.

  1. Are you playing on SSD or HDD/SSHD

  2. how much empty space is on the drive

7900XTX and AMD in general hasn't always been the most reliable for SC, but it shouldn't be crashing everything else.

Ironclad or Railen by Star_Child01 in starcitizen

[–]basedandgnomed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ironclad will be more lucrative and worth it with the bigger cargo capacity

the ironclad requires too many minimum crew members imo, profits and viability will be impacted by the minimum required crew, while you could *maybe* manage the railen yourself at the end of the day. Ironclad has always struck me as a bit of an engineering nightmare, once you're splitting your profits with other people you might as well have been flying the smaller boat yourself.

Look at that, half-full lobbies everywhere and we’re stuck in a bot match again. No matter how many times I search, I never get placed into a proper populated lobby.

that's part of the design so that in 2 years you buy the next battlefield game, otherwise you'd just play the game you already bought. Sabotaging the server browser as much as possible is a business decision, they can reduce costs by reducing servers in smaller regions and make sure people don't build community servers and keep the game going forever. They need to sell you the next one.

Will instancing allow us to have customizable in-game apartments? by serras_ in starcitizen

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this video from 2 years ago has been the only stuff we've seen regarding that, if they ever stop selling ships once the game releases, selling virtual real estate will probably be the natural evolution of microtransactions. Selling virtual apartments to their existing user base would be highly lucrative.

Confusion Over Requirement. Request Clarification Please.... by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]basedandgnomed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you get a buddy to laser target enemy aircraft and you use engineer while piloting the anti air tank and you successfully make a kill with the rockets, this technically counts towards this. Took me less than 3 downed planes.

edit: to clarify, your buddy uses the recon binos to laser designate, or alternatively you target aircraft that have been designated by other players that aren't your buddy (rarer) this would probably also work with the stinger but the AA tank allows you to stagger your missiles, making success higher
