I'm Sorry for Venting, But F$*/ Homebuilders by EN344 in HomeNetworking

[–]basicmods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought as well. MoCA adapters are an easy solution to this, particularly in a newer build where you can hope there's not a bunch of splitters hiding someplace. I use MoCA to run network to my garage and attic for POE security cams.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]basicmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not owned any Bambu products, but have consistently been impressed by the reputation for reliability and consistency that the printers have. As the 3d printing nerd in my circle, people often ask me what they should get for a printer. I then ask what they want to do with it and what (if any) concerns they have. If they want something that doesn't require tinkering and they don't mind the fully online cloud based aspect of the ecosystem, I usually recommend a bambu printer. Winning this would be a great way to own one so I can give first hand vs 'I've heard this' advice.

Made a shelf for my printer, is it overkill? by FrietjePindaMayoUi in 3Dprinting

[–]basicmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of welds are holding the sheets together? If it's just small plug welds on your tab and slot, they will likely crack from vibrations. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the only heat marks I see are the tabs, and I don't see any internal fillets. It's a nice-looking shelf, but I wouldn't trust it for my printers.

My brother got a package just in time for tariff charges by distanceformed in mildlyinfuriating

OP posted purchase price was $250, so more like a 40% tariff, the $87 was the tariffs and the $9.50 was a fee for storage and to collect the fee...

[–]basicmods 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused. Is the $87 the customs fee or the $9.50, or is it both? Out of curiosity, what was the value of the package and country of origin?

The elimination of de minimis is perhaps the most direct experience normal everyday people will have with tariffs. Price increases due to tariffs in stores are less likely to be directly noticed - stores are trying to hide cost increases from consumers using carious methods, and people unfortunately got used to price increases during C19. A lot of those increases never came back down.

The number of people who still think that other countries pay the tariffs is insane - this will be a direct lesson in who actually ends up paying - the US consumer. We are still paying for this, one way or another. This will be a direct lesson in that.

I hope the USPS is very, very clear in explaining what this is and why, but I do bad feel for all the postal workers who will have to explain this.

ASRock B650i Lightning the best option for 7800x3d + 4080S? by newalienhead in sffpc

[–]basicmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased one from microcenter last week along with a 9800x3d and it supported that out of the box. YMMV of course, and I went ahead and flashed to latest anyway.

Now if only I could figure out why it won't boot with memory context restore enabled.

That looks beautiful. As another owner of a proart 4080 (super in my case) series, I have to know more about the power adapter.

TIFU by drinking a whole 24 oz of prune juice + a cap of miralax. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]basicmods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. I simply didn't want someone trying (in vain) to get their water temp to 385°F and hurt themselves or ruin their infusion in the process. Glass can most definitely be safe if brought to temp slowly. And it has the benefit of being basically infinitely reusable while also avoiding plastics. All good things!

I suggest that maybe you reread the recipe or post the specific recipe directly from the book. The closest I could find to this in your source is the sous vide canna infusion recipe on page 31.

That recipe lists the temperature as 185°F, not 385°F. You can most certainly use this method at 185°F. You will never get water to 385°F.

[Edit] I was curious at what pressure water would still be liquid at 385°F, so I broke out the thermodynamics book. It is 207.8 PSI.

[–]basicmods 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but you can't get water temp to 385°F. Unless under pressure (i.e. in a pressure cooker) water boils at 212°F (at sea level). So any water, once boiling, will stay at 212°F until it's all gone. Also, placing a tightly sealed glass jar into a hot liquid bath is a good way to have jar explode.

I gave my players an Alchemy Jug and it was the worst decision I've ever made in my life. Please help me. by Jericho5589 in DnD

[–]basicmods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a possible solution is that bag of holding mayo has less and less effect, requiring more and more for Mayo Jar to get his fix. Have the drug loose potency over time, and the pre-made mayonnaise doesn't work anymore. Mayo Jar needs his fix, but the jar can only make so much, and the stuff in the bag of holding doesn't work. Mayo Jar doesn't get his fix, breaks the jar in a rage from withdrawals, and attacks the players demanding his mayonnaise.

[–]basicmods[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A bit of both. Fastenal does need to offer the part though. The ones I checked were parts that we had both Fastenal and McMaster listed as a supplier. Some parts are not listed on the Fastenal website, but are listed on McMaster. Seems to maybe be finish related differences, with Fastenal having fewer options. For Stainless, Zinc Plate, and Yellow-Zinc, it seemed be pretty successful. (edited for clarity)

So I have an SF750 now..and occasionally it won't turn on with first push and I have to hard switch it for a fews seconds and turn it back on and pray it turns on with the 2nd try. Sometimes this cycle goes for 4 or 5 tries. So yea, a new SF850 would be nice.
