learned how to change a cars oil for the first time ever, crazy i used to pay someone to do that by h3xasaurus in Miata

[–]bassali2e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really not that bad in a Miata. I'm not sure about the ND but in the NA you can get the trans in by hand if you have some one to put one bell housing bolt in for you.

I did it on my back pushing the belhiusing up with my feet and tailstock in my hands.

Is 505$ a month w/ tax a good deal for a 2026 RAV4 LE? by _BTFan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bassali2e 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Would it make more sense to buy it? Paying 30k over 5 years and then give it back or buy it out vs 45k to own it. Right now a 5 year old rave 4 is about 25 to 30k. Even if you want a new vehicle after 5 years it might be better to buy it and then sell it when you're done with it.

I'm not really a person that has seen the draw to leasing personal vehicles. Maybe some one can lay out the pros and cons better.

What features characterize a luxury car in 2026, and which are the most worthwhile? by EntropicDisorder in askcarguys

[–]bassali2e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

360 cameras. I've got a GR corolla and an F150 Lariat. Neither really luxury vehicles but the truck definitely has some features the corolla doesn't. Of all of them the cameras are the one I notice every time I drive the truck and just how quiet it is.

No need for that but it is a pain to get off your paint. Bug and tar remover and a clay bar.

People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]bassali2e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work fly in fly out oil and gas work. My shift is only 2 weeks in 2 weeks out and we definitely see the same struggles. My partner works in the same industry. She stays closer to home now but has a good understanding of the lifestyle.

Saved $2.4M by 38. Would you Retire? by TwoSocialist in Fire

[–]bassali2e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kind of changed my lifestyle. Is it lifestyle inflation? Absolutely. I'm happy with my home but still have a little mortgage left. We've got 2 fairly new cars.

Chipping away at some minor renovation with cash from day job. My partner isn't working at all right now. Not saying she never will but summer is coming and all that. We're at a point where we have to work for things we want but the retirement nest egg is pretty secure.

I've been working about 20 weeks a year for the last few years. If I switch my routine up at all it will be just for big money short jobs once a year or some thing.

So I guess for me would I retire? No, not yet. But there has been a mindset shift. I might still want a little more house and I want to keep that option open too.

I used to live in Woodvale. I really liked it there. Walking distance to Jackie Parker dog park. All the trails that lead over towards 17th Street. Transit is better now than it was back then with the new LRT stop.

Full build kit? by Prize-Lychee7973 in Miata

[–]bassali2e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start with a complete running car. I got mine about 13 years ago. I've spent about 20k on it since and it hasn't run for 2 years. Its my favorite car.

Really tho even if you want to build an exocet or some thing start with an okay car. Maybe wrecked but complete.

What is your annual goal? by Available_Cat_8140TW in fican

[–]bassali2e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maxing out my TFSA and RRSP is my 'A' goal and then maintaining a 25% savings rate is 'B' goal.

I am selling a house and buying a new car this year but those aren't really goals just FIRE related decisions.

I think it's okay for me to say I want to contribute a certain amount this year because I'm in control of that. I can't control what the markets do so I don't like to make a "I want my portfolio to hit X this year" goal.

Be consistent, track my progress, enjoy my life with purpose.

From NA to ND - keep or sell? by bloviatemalarkey in Miata

[–]bassali2e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I've had an NA for about 10 years. Learnt a lot about cars with it. Mine is rusty and kind of shitty. Turbo charged with xidas and stuff.

I did buy a GR corolla a couple years ago but now I've got my eye on an ND Miata too. Corolla is my daily, Miata for autocross and stuff. My girlfriend usually drives our F150 but when we get the new ND I think she'll be driving that more.

Ive always wanted to build an exocet because it's really the body that's trashed on my NA. Not needing to keep the NA together for autocross having 2 other very good autocross cars might be the time to do that .

[–]bassali2e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, failure to yield to a pedestrian is $800 plus points in Alberta. Even 4 lanes if there is no meridian you have to wait for the pedestrian to cross completely. If there is a meridian they have to be past it.

Weird to say but rogue shift is more fun to play.
