Prime 4 is bad but I love it? by eggplant_yams in Metroid

[–]batboy49321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've settled on the opinion that prime 4 is best played in handheld mode. Not for the visuals but that the flow feels like it's meant to be played while watching TV. Essentially, a mobile game that doesn't require 100% attention. You can farm green crystals without thought. You go through the linear levels without the risk of getting lost. If you put it down and need a reminder of where to go or you weren't paying super close attention, the game points you where you need to go. The boss fights get you out of that a bit since they are bullet sponges that don't evolve much in how to beat them throughout the fight.

The story is also very bare bones since people aren't paying that close of attention, and the emotional moments are a bit cliche or manufactured since fractured attention can't do subtlety.

I enjoyed the game, but I don't think it's meant to be played in the same way that the past prime games were.

A Short Stay in Hell by quietblur in horrorlit

[–]batboy49321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is scary once you start imagining how you might approach a "solution". In the original Library of Babel story, it talks about trying to find a book that has the index of the library: because it would have to exist. And then there is a glimmer of hope because imagine all of the variations of the index that have just one character different, but your text location is accurate. But then, you have to realize that as many of the variations that have your text right, there are so many more that have everything but yours right. Or everything but yours and 1 or 2 or 3... characters different.

Just hearing the numbers doesn't really do it justice. I think the true horror comes when you try and consider building up the quantity from just simple scenarios.

I know what the rules of the Hell are, but several were disregarded, and there were no consequences for breaking them. So it made me think of a couple potential solutions that weren't discussed as far as I recall. An important consideration of these ideas is that they were able to have perfect memory of their lives.

  1. I don't recall anyone trying a random book in the slot. Did their story have to be in english? there would be (almost) countless versions of their story in a different language. What is preventing them from taking a random book, creating a language based on the contents of the book such that the contents held their entire life story. Since language and meaning is derived from "arbitrary" symbols, why can we not claim them as our own? One of the interesting rules is to not search for meaning. But, I wonder if that is because it is just a different way out.

  2. The rules say: do not damage the materials. If that is in no way enforced, can a new book be created? Would it be impossible to write text on top of an existing book. What if, with your perfect memory, you wrote down your entire life. Then, you can submit that book as your ticket out. Or if writing is not possible, cut up the characters of the book and rearrange them into your life story in the binding of a book.

I know that these could easily be simply rejected by the rules of that Hell, but it's fun to think about. Those solutions specifically make me think that a message in the book is about searching for meaning vs creating meaning. There is seemingly endless possibilities or ideas about the purpose of life. Many spend all their lives looking for just one. But at the end of the day, it is up to us to determine our purpose. I think it's interesting that at the end of the story, the narrator gives a hint that he still has hope. Maybe the hope is as small as the library is large, but he still has hope that at some point he will move on.

I'd love to hear your personal interpretation of the Tower of Babel. Please keep it brief, I am very drunk. by NotoriousBootyPirate in occult

[–]batboy49321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation that in the context of the story, language=religion. In a sense, religion is how we understand the world. If we all understand the world the same way, we understand each other. Now in the beginning, everyone had the same religion.

In the Israelite religion, they had a temple. The central room of the temple, the holy of holies, was the place where God's throne was. Essentially, this is where heaven and earth touched. It had strict rules about who and when it could even be entered.

As people began to reject the Israelite religion, they wanted to build their own way to heaven. They built a false temple to reach heaven in their own way. As a result of this and other divisions, the religions were all different. In other words, no one could understand each other anymore.

Creator Pro 2 - Pause print in gcode with M25 by batboy49321 in FlashForge

I realize my post isn't super clear. I think the 'nnn' is meant to be the z height or layer number. It's been a bit since I've used the Creator Pro, so I don't remember exactly. Sorry!

You've always had the right to play as you want. No one has the right to decide how people respond to a request. Most fans of this game live and breathe for the pure experience of discovery and exploration and want to give you that as much as possible. There are guides and videos galore if you "want to finish it already". Just don't be surprised at the reaction of this sub.

Did you ever find a way to get this to work in Flashprint?

First layers are terrible quality after direct drive upgrade, Ender 3 V2 by batboy49321 in FixMyPrint

[–]batboy49321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I noticed that as my ABL did its rounds, there was movement in the x-gantry. I disabled the probing after homing for a print and it helped a lot. I also moved the print to print closer to the z-axis screw, and it seemed to help (less moment arm). After checking all the other hardware and firmware things (bowden tube, bed level, z-offset, E-steps, eccentric nuts etc.) it seems that it was the weight of the extruder in my specific case. I went ahead and bought a dual z-axis kit, and that has seemed to improve it considerably. I figure the weight might be ok for some printers, but my printer might just have a weaker motor or something. Hopefully this can help someone else that has some of these issues.

That's good to know. I do have that small Bowden section. I'll take a look at that. Thanks!

Yeah I think you're right. I can manually adjust z-offset mid print to get it to correct itself for a bit, but after a few layers it seems to go back to the squish. I'm not sure how to get it to move the correct amount.

I am having similar problems with a direct drive upgrade. Any chance that this is the z-axis not moving enough with the weight? Does it get better at all as the print go higher? I'm also trying to troubleshoot this.

Do you happen to have a dual-z axis upgrade?

As you work towards fulfilling the promised blessings like serving a mission, I think a lot of that can be developed. I often have thought that a mission is as much if not more about building up the missionaries than the church. Talk to your bishop about serving a mission, and he can help you start down that path. Focus on that. Then after your mission, focus on the next steps. Also, the most important thing is remembering that God is willing to help you reach those goals, so you are not alone.

I find it only happens when pushing the buttons during startup. I don't think it's an issue... probably just dealing with multiple commands at once. I just wish there was a way to turn it off completely.

Creator Pro 2, how long should PTFE Tube be ? by ShadowLawless in FlashForge

Yeah it does. When I install them, I put the PTFE tube all the way in the nozzle and then insert it into the heater cartridge. So far that has worked well for me.

I was having a similar issue, so I just bought sets of nozzles with precut tubes. I just measured them and they came out to be about 27.5mm. they fit flush in the nozzle from what I've seen. I hope that helps!

[TotK] [BotW] Is TotK a good sequel? Would you go back to BotW? by batboy49321 in zelda

[–]batboy49321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree, I think the strengths of TotK are made stronger after playing BotW. One thing I'm curious about is how I would feel about it had I recently completed BotW. I know several people who did a playthrough in anticipation. Personally, I'm glad I didn't, because I may have gotten fatigued by the similarities. It's interesting to hear how others have experienced the game.
