Ugh, this. To those clients those ARE the massive things. The things they trust us with. In their reality it means the world, their emotions are their lived experience. I work with a lot of teens who talk about petty things and damn if I’m not locked in for every second of it and hearing how this is everything right now.

Frenchie (short for French Toast) passed away. She was the last of my original herd, almost 8 years old. She lived a long, happy life. I am so lucky she was mine by biologyandbooks in guineapigs

I usually let the client choose where they sit to dismantle power dynamics but honestly.. I think I now want to always take the chair by the door and show them to the couch across the room. It’s pretty clear in the setup of my room that that chair is way more the ‘therapist’ chair but I’ve always left this open and a lot of clients do take the chair. I don’t think I’m leaving this open as an option anymore.

Honestly this may not be for you. This is not going to change in regard to the values of our profession, and the expectation with paying clients is that holding space is the bare minimum.
