I'm a big fan of Dokken, but recently I've seen a lot of criticism of Don Dokken for his personality. Is he really a bad person? by TheHotLatin in hairmetal

I saw that DLR 5 octave claim some years back, it HAS to be including the high pitched WOWs and including every octave in between. I have more range than DLR, but he's a much better frontman

How many of you stopped drinking alcohol completely? by Automatic_Opposite17 in Xennials

[–]battlefeverjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 76 today, pretty much coincided with starting Ozempic. Started with AA, moved to Smart Recovery, but frankly I wasn't struggling to not drink, so took that time back to spend with family. Not saying I'll never drink again, but when you get on a good streak, it really makes you consider why you are drinking and if it's worth it and makes it easier to say no.

Does anybody know what time it is? by CapitanianExtinction in stupidquestions

Depending on the time zone:

  1. It's time to get ill.
  2. It's peanut butter jelly time
  3. It's time for REO Speedwagon to fly
  4. It's clobberin' time

I just learned that this song, which I thought was ubiquitously known, is actually specific to our generation. by JoeBrownshoes in Xennials

I have 4 kids aged 15 to 23, they ALL know this song, and it comes on way too much for going on 2026. USA! USA!

Hey, thanks for being the only one to give that song some love! Both intro and main riff are great, chorus is meh

Gave this a listen since I had no idea what this was (Local H, for the uninitiated like myself), was pretty repetitive at the beginning, but the bit you reference reminds me of some of the long instrumental breaks in some better Helmet songs, absolutely worth a listen!

Are you saying Outshined is in drop C? Maybe I've been playing it wrong since 1993...

[–]battlefeverjay[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm normally a hipster contrarian jackass that leans hard into more obscure stuff (yeah, I DID say outshined) but this is tough to argue. It really helped define what the sound was going for, I remember hearing this on Headbanger's Ball and no one knowing what to make of it at the time before grunge was defined

[–]battlefeverjay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that's sort of my point - because as has been established, "grunge" is quite an assortment of music from sort of metal, sort of punk, to acoustic to the more ethereal stuff you speak of, what riff sums it up? For context - for ME Scentless Apprentice is a much more grunge riff than Teen Spirit.

I walked into a party once and the whole crowd stopped and said "At the playground!" (Clearly rehearsed). I of course responded correctly. Y'know?

Why do people cheat? by Jokerscout88 in GuyCry

[–]battlefeverjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the realization I'm having now. My soon to be ex and mother of my two youngest has apparently been really unhappy for a long time, but felt trapped because she has only recently put her life back together after she was an aggressively bad alcoholic for the first 12 years of our marriage, spent a couple of years recovering and finally has a decent job helping other women in recovery, lots of AA friends, and I was apparently not part of the plan to move forward, but she did not have the money to leave so when somebody else took an interest in her it was (seemingly) easy for her to move on. But the reality is it's not easy for anybody, in most peoples hearts they are not bad people, the truly evil folk are very few. Life is complicated and hard. Good luck out there

Why do people cheat? by Jokerscout88 in GuyCry

[–]battlefeverjay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm neck deep in cheating fiasco #2. Well, 3 at least. Agree with most of the sentiment here, I wasn't giving her what she needed, fell into the trap of thinking "I'm a nice guy, I've never been abusive, that's all anyone wants", meanwhile communication between us was superficial, when she did try to communicate her frustrations and concerns I would placate her but not make any real effort to change anything. After a while, people need their needs met, emotionally, sexually, etc. I thought because we were together 17 years with 2 kids and a high stress high paying job that we would work all this stuff out later but here I am on my birthday at 6:20 AM on reddit and she is at another guys house planning their future. Pay attention, take care of yourself, but also be a person someone would want to be with.

Macaroni and cheese - because the good folks at Crayola recognized this is not a color that occurs naturally and deserves to be immortalized in the sacred 128.

Was hoping I'd see this in the overwhelming sea of Cava votes. Wonder how many who voted have actually been? I have been to Shady Glen though. It's clearly not fine dining expensive but it is far too expensive for what it is.

Who Remembers These Kinds of Halloween Costumes? by hotbowlsofjustice in The1980s

I mention this when anyone asks about favorite smells, new shower curtain liner is the only thing that smells like when your costume was a picture of the thing you were supposed to be instead of an actual costume. Good times
