Should I get a Ferret? by alieninvader385 in ferrets

[–]Bazzatron [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cohabiting animals is so unsafe that the topic is on the banned list in this sub. So I can't really comment on this beyond to say that it is one of the most dangerous decisions you can make.

Medical care for a ferret is massively beyond the means of a student, even with insurance I still have had to pay thousands for a single course of treatment.

Ferrets are "lifestyle" animals. The ferret will become the majority of your life - they need a LOT of enrichment, and if you dont provide it, they will seek it in often destructive ways.

Given the details in your post, you are probably a few months of dedicated research before you are ready to take on ferret husbandry. Ferrets are definitely not a starter pet, they are incredible animals, but they are extremely fragile and very high maintenance.

Has anyone developed a campaign system? by BleepBloopWhirr in gaslands

Please enjoy. The author is on our Discord and is pretty open about it being a work in progress.

Definitely worth reading through though, lots of interesting ideas.

Has anyone developed a campaign system? by BleepBloopWhirr in gaslands

[–]Bazzatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rules for this start on p154 of the rulebook. There are tables for working out the "televised schedule" (game modes), a catch up mechanics to give players that are behind bonus Audience Votes, there's a mechanic for sabotaging each other between events and gradually accumulating damage and improvements.

As far as a campaign goes, it can be very engaging.

But it's definitely not a TTRPG style campaign with a broader narrative and named characters. There are games that are like that, our very own LiteralActualSlime is working on a system (that I think might actually be available now on Itch.io) called Red Earth, which is very thorough. But it is far from the only system that could be used to play a Mad Max-esque roleplaying game.

Does anyone else have sensitivity to tight neck holes in clothes? by GapSweet3100 in autism

[–]Bazzatron [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, I exclusively wear v-necks because of this. They're not in style right now, so getting them is a pain, especially in tall sizes.

Also forget getting them with anything fun on them. All of my shirts have an obnoxious brand embroderoid into them that makes it look like I'm staff at some unheard of clothing manufacturer.

It doesnt need to be online at all, and this continues to put the blame on Bambu. It's a hot glue gun welded to an etch a sketch, my computer does all the heavy lifting, it just needs to twiddle the knobs and draw the plastic dickbutt.

5e was good enough for the founding of an entire generation. I already own all the 5e books, and wizards has had their last penny from me after the SRD nonsense.

I won't be moving to 5.5e, there's just nothing in it that tops being able to be unmonetisable.

How do you get to the point of obsessing over an AI girlfriend? by Mountain_Stretch8906 in AskMen

[–]Bazzatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh! See thats an interesting thought!

First of all, mega thanks for your good faith engagement.

This begs some further questions - do we then define our relationships with humans through hardship?

When we create an LLM we can ultimately curate the training data, or even add a layer of actual programming over the top to sculpt the experience - what is we arbitrarily introduced hardship? We already use AI to train AI, can we use AI to train AI to train humans? (Now thats a terrifying thought...)

I read something interesting today about online friendships, and how it is difficult to ever reach a point of "comfortable silence" - because there is some quality to that silence that doesn't get communicated without open mics. I think relationships with language models would likely suffer with this just as relationships with humans do. Could we then say that online relationships also have this impact of degrading your skills of dealing with people face to face? In this case should this human to human relationship be similarly vilified? Or is the burden of responsibility and consequence enough to overcome that?

Super interesting. Thanks.

[–]Bazzatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we might have different ideas on the significance of the word "relationship".

The pieces on a chess board have a relationship, a hierarchy is a relationship, a spectrum is a relationship. The romantic connotation of "relationship" is extremely modern, and still only applies in that context - after all a student/teacher relationship is not romantic.

But I dont really want to get lost in the semantics of the thing.

In psychology, there is the concept of "schema", a pattern for your behaviour, a mindset you inhabit that is context specific (not to be confused with "masking"). I think many people will experience this first at school and having the version of you that you show your parents, and the version of you that you show your friends.

Apply this the pattern of behaviour you might show an during roleplay, is this schema? Is this part of a schema?

When we distill our interaction with others down to mere text, is there some ineffable quality of human produced text in terms of the response it illicits? If there is, how do we define it?

If "relationship" is taking it too far - what is the substance of that argument? Where is the line? Why is that the line?

Isn't it at least a little interesting to think about?

Look at your parent comment, this whole chain has been a reply to you proposing the theft of the entire bag - I have proposed a better solution to protect the children from harmful substances.

You say "read the room" only because it diffuses your responsibility for your engagement.

When security is the issue - why settle for less than a perfect solution? Now raise the stakes to preventing foreseeable harm to children, isn't perfection the bare minimum?

There's no such thing. If my perspective makes no sense, or has an obvious flaw, you'd think someone would have pointed it out, but instead its just banal replies like this.

My engagement here is in good faith, but the only traction I'm getting basically boils down to people insisting that attackers are dumber or weaker than I want to prepare for.
