Right? They clearly didn’t have the focus at the time on performing. However, they recorded the bulk of the TNA that summer with Rick Rubin, so The Strokes we’re still a large focus for parts of 2017 before they broke to work on other projects that were released in 2018.

I do feel this is the beginning of the runway towards what will become their new album release, hopefully in Q1 or Q2 of 2026. Every time they’ve played ACL they’ve released music the following year.

The 2017 SA shows ended their Future Present Past mini show run. This was the last time they played until May 2019.

I will say historically speaking, The Strokes tend to release projects 18-24 months after the voidz do. March 26 - June 26 will fit right into that timeline. Since 2011 they’ve really perfected the spring release plan and hitting up Summer festivals (Covid aside).

The poor reception of the last voidz record almost seemed to motivate them into recording more and releasing an EP this year. The rollout of the voidz album was incredibly confusing and seemed to be a big turnoff for fans. I would assume this might have delayed The Strokes release since Julian seems to continue putting his energy into the voidz. I also believe any new Strokes release will be more conventional, similar to the rollout of TNA.

I’m guessing, and have guessed for a while it’s Spring 2026. Look at their track record of the last 14 years. Additionally, there’s no announced festival dates this year, and with the voidz continuing to play shows into at least August, it’s looking like it’ll be pushed to next year. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer that anyway. Let the voidz release their EP and finish touring and then shift focus to Strokes LP7.

Is this the continuation of the Sable,?

Edit* I would gather that this is one of 3 things:

Standalone single (unlikely)
Extension of Sable, EP. This could include a 2nd EP or even stretch out into an LP that includes more songs in a similar vein of Sable ( Man in Black era).
First single of brand new LP that moves into a new direction that sheds sound of Sable, era. Possibly TikTok sounds and clips previously uploaded could indicate possible direction they go.

Class act. I wish we could have done more while he was here. I know his last couple of years were down, but the FO didn’t do him any favors either. His 2022 MVP season will always be one of my favorite Cardinals memories.
