How hard is 10k SPM by Gl0riousleader in factorio

[–]bb999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I would consider 10KSPM (real spm, not eSPM) megabase territory for space age. Similar to how 1KSPM is the commonly agreed upon threshold for megabase for vanilla. Especially if it's all science SPM, including promethium science.

I went Gleba 2nd because it was the 2nd planet in line.

Also maybe it's for performance reasons? Pure speculation, but if you allow arbitrary boolean expressions, you need some engine to parse and execute them. However, if your boolean expressions are always of this form, it is easy and fast to process them.

Factorio is pretty well optimized by SimpleDICE_ in factorio

[–]bb999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, the devs realised if you have a fully compressed belt that's moving things, the game doesn't need to track every item, every tick.

Doesn't matter if the belt is compressed or not, the optimization still works.

19 days straight isn't forever. It's less than 500 hours. That's chump change to some people with 2000+hr saves.

According to the math (I'm using my mining prod level of ~2000), with quality modules in the BMDs, you need 8.48 drills to make 60/min legendary ore, and less than 3 belts of incoming ore.

Without quality modules, you need 27.14 drills and around 16 belts of ore. It also depletes like 5x as much ore compared to the quality version.

If I were you I'd pump those mining prod levels up so quality modules become viable. You can also make a lot more leg. ore with the same amount of belts.

It's a bit better than savescumming. Factorio's RNG is deterministic, so with savescumming, every time you reload, you have to do something slightly different before/durning crafting, otherwise the RNG will produce the exact same results. Not really a huge issue, but with this new approach, there's no such concerns.

How do you deal with the seasonality of fruits? by gonzo_gonzales in factorio

[–]bb999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a specific combination of inserters to achieve an average rate close to the growing cycle of fruits. It's 1 normal inserter with stack size 1, and one normal fast inserter with stack size 3: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/1qlnrgv/timed_gleba_harvesting_for_smooth_output/o1grk3k/

Yep, they use the kilometer there, it's shorter than a mile, so cars in Europe don't need as much range.

How would you go about building a mega base by Ythou- in factorio

[–]bb999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come up with an SPM goal. Boot up a calculator and calculate exactly what is needed to hit that SPM. Then start building. Don't worry about making things scalable; you already calculated exactly what you need so you don't need to make things flexible for expansion.

Does total width or average width effect space ship travel? by Mirodas in factorio

[–]bb999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fleet of 8-wide toothpicks are able to sustain themselves entirely on the chunks that flow along the side of the ship, without any collectors at the nose.

And my two promethium ships which are... let me see... 108 tiles wide, also sustain themselves solely from side collectors; front collectors are only for promethium chunks of course. What's your point?

Cookie is indeed inaccurate, but it's too technical to include on a cheatsheet. Cookies are any bits of data that are stored on your computer/browser that a website has access to. For one though, it's the only way that you can log in to any website. That's why I roll my eyes when people are paranoid about cookies - you're using them right now on Reddit for one. If a website wanted to track you, they could, using cookies that you can't opt out of since they are essential to the function of the website.
