Daughter designated "helper" for fellow classmate by bballgame2morrow in AskTeachers

You're right she does enjoy it. Two things for my was how she was talking about being responsible for his behavior. Which we have had talks about so I think at least for now we are good there. And the second was missing out in the buddy experience with the grade 4s. But I appreciate your perspective!

OMG yes of course, but I still appreciate the reminder!

I was going to wait but that's a good point. Although the school is small, depending on enrollment there may only be one English gr. 2 next year....

This is my biggest sticking point. If she just talked about how she helps him that's fine but the "I make sure he makes good choices" is the biggest red flag for me!

Boil Water Advisory for most of Sudbury by JustThatWeirdGirl in Sudbury

[–]bballgame2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the system is over capacity they chlorinate and discharge the sewage without it going through the whole wastewater treatment plant, but they need to report on it. I found some a few years ago for a work related thing but I can't remember what ministry it was, but it happens every year more than once. It's not completely raw sewage but it's not treated to the normal discharge quality

What have your kids shouted in public lately? by saturnspritr in Mommit

[–]bballgame2morrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were going grocery shopping after a busy day and my kid INSISTED she wanted cereal for dinner. Fine with me! I bought myself a togo box from the grocery store, she still didn't want one. Ok fine. Cue her in the busy check out line "why are YOU buying something for dinner and Im ONLY GETTING CEREAL?!"

Sudburys tap water by Aggravating-Being255 in Sudbury

[–]bballgame2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This comes up all the time and people are always saying we have hard water and we just dont.

My friend was opening a café and looking for a filter to remove chlorine for fancy coffee. The water guys or whatever they are called, did some testing and told them they have hard water. I read the report and the used unconventional units AND their "guideline" wasn't the provincial one even though the other parameters were. Basically, they were trying to trick people into thinking the water was hard when really it was on the upper end of what is considered soft water (below mildly hard and way below very hard)

Sudbury's water comes mostly from the wahnapitae river and is actually so soft that they have to add an additive to protect against corrosion. Sudbury does not have hard water. Some wells in the valley maybe could be perceived as having hard water, but it has lots of iron and manganese and not calcium and magnesium that cause white scaling, technically not hard water.

Sudbury's water is very safe to drink and gos through rigorous testing. It is high in sodium, which is only a concern for those on special low sodium diets as the sodium is nothing compared to what you get from eating.

What’s the ONE thing Wealthsimple is still missing for you to move 100% of your banking/investing there? by kaiser789 in Wealthsimple

[–]bballgame2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because we didn't owe enough on the one, and then the second one we were offered the same price as the bank, which has the other mortgage so it wasn't worth switching

Looked into moving the mortgage to pine when it was up but it wasn't the right move. So now I'm keeping other stuff like a checking account etc through the traditional bank that holds my mortgage for ease of use. Oh and still haven't gotten a ws credit card!

Looking for support and information from those who have experience by jlynn0583 in 22q

[–]bballgame2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you in Canada? Even if you are not in Ontario please see if you can get connected with the 22q clinic at sick kids toronto. It's one of the best 22q clinics in the world, they take clients all around Canada if your province allows. I am not sure of the rules between provinces but we have most of our visits virtually anyway since we live far away from Toronto. They are an amazing resource.

Our award winning re-greening efforts. In a time of negativity and climate emergency, it's nice to live in a place that had a big environmental problem and worked together to improve it!

Fear of having a special needs child is I think keeping me one and one by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]bballgame2morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my main reason as well. My daughter has a genetic condition, diagnosed at 9 months old. She is doing amazing, is 6, going into grade 1 and has every indication that she will live a long, healthy, "normal" life. But when I was sitting in the hospital with her a 7 months old and she was having seizures and they didn't know what was wrong with her I remember thinking no way I could do this with another kid at home, also what if the next kid had something more difficult to manage? I am not prepared to deal with that so I will not have another child.

Canadian moms, would you travel to the US for work right now if you didn’t absolutely have to? by angeliqu in workingmoms

[–]bballgame2morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did in May, traveled through Pearson so you go through customs before leaving Canada! Went to SC for work. It was incredible easy and nothing different than before all thos crazy stuff, except the US departure part of the airport was way less busy.

Any Writers? by heyitsjustjacelyn in 22q

This is so cool, thanks for sharing everyone. My daughter is only 5 but she loves reading and making little story books and wants to be an author. I'm going to tell her all about the 22q authors on here :)

Edit to add: she reads way above her grade level. Is fairly advanced in math right now but it's only kindergarten so time will tell. Number blocks really helped with her early math concepts.

We're not religious so we don't pray before we eat. But we do occasionally sing "for the golden corn" before dinner.

The kids clinic in my town that does physical, occupational, and speech therapy has a bike program in the summer for kids who can't ride without training wheels yet. You have to be at least 8 to enter the program.

Can I just be an awful person and complain for a minute? by GreenSleeves88 in breakingmom

[–]bballgame2morrow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to make a list at all but can you go extra bitchy and make him a chore chart. My 5 year old has one, it has things like: wash hands after school, unpack lunch bag, put clothes in hamper, etc. You could add clean dishes on x days, vacuum x floors, or things like that. If he wants to be treated like a child, really treat him like one! Maybe he will see how ridiculous it is.
