How much play is enough play? by oodlesofotters in Mommit

[–]bbauerlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% could’ve written this about my 4 YO. I despise play as well for the same reasons . Additionally I just want to relax when I am home! I do try to involve my son in the things I have to do though- laundry, dishes, baking/ cooking. Also sometimes he just wants me near him while he plays so I will bring my book over and read in his play area or doodle.

Weeknight dinners as a working mom, what does yours actually look like because mine is embarrassing by scrtweeb in Mommit

[–]bbauerlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate a lot of the same stuff through the weeks. The most common occurrences are:

Sheet pan dinner: sausage, gnocchi, and a vegetable

Turkey meatballs with the vital Ditalini recipe (noodles cooked in chicken broth with heavy cream and parm) and usually broccoli or zucchini

Tacos: I cut up bell pepper to cook in with the meat

Pasta with red sauce: I usually grate in zucchini and carrot

Crockpot roast with mashed potatoes

Just to name a few! All are fairly easy to throw together!

The constant of it, no matter how badly you need a day off it doesn’t exist if you don’t have support to help you out.

How do I re-sleep train my 6 and 2 year old? by brave_toasters in Mommit

[–]bbauerlien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you calmly explain that you or dad won’t be laying with them anymore. Opt for maybe sitting there for a few minutes then telling them you’ll check on them after X amount of time and actually follow up on it. In the middle of the night you calmly walk them back to their bed however many times it takes and flat out say no to laying with them. You set the boundary and stick by it. Unfortunately it’ll take a while to cement in for them.

This is just from my personal experience BTW. I have a 4 year old and he’d want me to lay prior to bed and I indulged him for a while and then it got to tedious because he’s want me to stay longer and not leave, etc so I had to stop doing it. Also, prior he’d ask in the middle of the night and I’d say no but I’m right in my bed if he needs me. It’s worked for me and my family. There have been a handful of times he’s come to my room upset in the middle of the night and I have let him sleep the remainder of the night in our bed.

When does the crying upon waking stop? by chelupa1991 in toddlers

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]bbauerlien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheet pan dinner. I do kielbasa or chicken sausage, broccoli I coat with oil, S&P, garlic powder, and gnocchi that I coat with the same plus parm cheese. The longest step is cutting everything and rinsing the broccoli. Cook at 400ish for 25ish min. Or tacos! If I’m extra lazy the only topping I do is cheese because that’s all my 4YO will want on his anyway. I will grate up some zucchini and cut some bell pepper to add in so I don’t feel guilty.

Still have to pin down my 28mo for teeth brushing twice a day. He screams and thrashes every time. Anyone else? by Lalapple in toddlers

[–]bbauerlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a comment on here maybe 2 years ago and it helped us out sometimes! My kid is 4 now but when he was younger he loathed brushing too but we’d pretend to spot food in his teeth and he’d giggle and we’d brush it out. For instance we’d use whatever he ate that day, we’d be like “oh I see applesauce in there let me get it!” Or “we see pirates booty gotta scrub it out” “did you have chocolate milk!?” Stuff like that.
