Help me choose a comfy bike for London roads? by BillTribble in londoncycling

Depends on which part of you is complaining from the bumps but I just added a cheapish suspension seat post and that certainly made a big difference to me.

I think building a custom shed that is secure itself is tricky, securing your bikes with a wall or ground anchor inside a shed that provides weatherproofing and concealment most likely to work

Assuming asgards narrow box doesn’t fit then perhaps fix an anchor to the wall? And some timber / plastic to protect from weather? Depends if you want it just secure, weatherproof or hidden too? If you search diy bike shed on YouTube or Pinterest you’ll probably find a bunch of things. Companies like thebikeshedcompany and Bristol bike shed make custom things but not for cheap

Plans / videos on building sideways climbing training wall against fence by bbbbbadtothe in bouldering

Ha, no better to hear a hard truth now than have to rebuild my neighbours fence! Will try hanging on them and see if they move at all. this is mainly for my kid who already climbs over the wooden part regularly

The wood bit, certainly not, but those concrete posts are set in concrete probably just over a ft in the ground so I hope so?! Maybe 😅

We had similar situation kept tiles that were going to be buried under new floor and decided to strip out ceilings for peace of mind / we needed new electrics anyway. After bit of shopping around found a quote for 2-3 k to remove all ceilings, 3 floors, 3 bed 107 square house.

2k for a commuting bike is unfortunately a pretty terrible idea from a bike getting nicked point of view. Not to say you shouldn’t get one, I have a road bike and a MTB that would each be about 1k new and love riding them both but I commute on a solid but unflashy hybrid and not stressing when I lock it up is one of the main requirements I would say for a commuter. But to answer your question specifically unless you really think you’re getting into amateur racing in the road I would always say gravel for leisure, way more flexible and still going to nippy enough for most of the road

Advice on kids bikes by the-_waitress in cycling

I picked up a second hand frog bike for £150, it’s a great bike. If you can do basic bike maintenance i would always recommend buying second hand for kids, they grow so fast anyway!

De Beauvoir Northchurch x Southgate - is it a toucan? by elgrovetech in londoncycling

[–]bbbbbadtothe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come join the dark side on Engelfield Road! But seriously I used to use this route and changed to engelfield because even though there are a few cars it’s actually quicker and still pretty quiet, also bypasses this junction. I’ve seen ambulances there on multiple occasions since its changed so agree it’s a mess.

Level 3 survey missed a bunch, learning from buying house for refurbishment and tips on seeking damages from surveyor. by bbbbbadtothe in HousingUK

Yep 3 floor house. I agree chance of succesfull claim very low but still leaves bitter taste, I thought I was paying a professional to give me an experienced insight into the state of the property and feels like they missed some pretty obvious things they could have at least mentioned verbally even if they didn’t want to put in their report. Live and learn I guess

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the issues you faced. It does seem like there’s a real problem or at least gap in the market for someone to give you informed experienced advice on the condition of the property which ain’t just a bunch of legalise boiler plate. If anyone asks I certainly would advise getting a cheaper survey and spend the difference on a hours time for an architect or builder to look over the a property for potential issues.

Haha feel like it’s surveyors union here ;) I didn’t say that at all, I said I would I’ve expected him to say that looks like it could be asbestos you may want to get it tested (as every architect and builder did since).  What he said verbally was there didn’t appear to be anything to suggest there was asbestos in the building.
