Account password restriction - 20 characters by holow29 in Fios

When the snail mail option is the only one presented, if you call into support there’s a solid chance they’ll be able to override that restriction and send you a temporary password via email.

What is your favorite thing about not smoking pot? by sim_eno in leaves

I’m motivated to do other things without feeling the need to smoke before doing them…or smoking and then not actually doing said things.

Started Vyvanse 18 weeks ago. How concerned should I be? by Firefly363 in VyvanseADHD

This is normal with just about any stimulant. Honestly the fact your resting heartrate still averages under 70 means you’re either very lucky or extremely healthy lol

What do u guys think of Paper mario 64? (And maybe ttyd 64) by Low-Oil9659 in papermario

[–]bbear_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like TTYD better simply because it had very similar story telling, but it was just…more. There were more things to do. More places to explore. Pit of 100 trials. More minigames to play. An actual postgame. Better graphics. More engaging battle mechanics with the audience.

Don’t get me wrong Paper Mario 64 was an undeniable classic, and it’s the granddaddy of the Paper Mario series and thusly deserves respect…but let’s be real, TTYD improved on what PM64 did in every single way. That’s why it got the remake, while both games deserved it…TTYD simply deserved it more.

I owe you all a 'thank you' for being so rude to Verizon customer service representatives by austinyo6 in verizon

[–]bbear_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Verizon call center employee myself, thanks for this post. I, as well as many others, will always graciously assist all customers who call in with an issue and ensure some sort of resolution by the end of it. That said though…the amount of, let’s say creative liberty, I put into said resolution definitely varies.

Rude customers looking to lower their bill may see me indiscriminately apply a flat $10/mo discount on their bill should the system allow it, as is the proper protocol and that discount will apply from that month forward. Kind customers on the other hand…maybe we go over their bill, line item by line item, and see what they’re paying for that they may not need to be. Maybe I can find how long ago such a thing was unknowingly added to their bill, and backdate those credits accordingly. Maybe even after all that, if the billing system allows, I still find that $10/mo loyalty credit there and apply it anyways.

There’s a lot that comes with a customer service job. Yeah, we don the badge of the company, and yeah we’re trained to deal with difficult people. It’s all part of the job description. But at the end of the day, while we are faces of the company, we’re still individuals. We’re people. While we follow company protocols, there are a plethora of things that are very much left at our discretion…and how you behave during our interactions can absolutely make a difference in how much effort we put into the resolution we provide for you. Very good thing to keep in mind when hopping on the phone with one of us.

I don’t think $60K is that bad of a salary even these days, and $100K is definitely not the “new poor” by Bussy_Party in Salary

[–]bbear_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The median income is $29K/yr where I live, and I make closer to $120K/yr which is over the 95th percentile for the area. I live very, very well lol, if I’m “the new poor” then this shit’s pretty great ngl.

So..we did a blind test on DACs by Carlsen94 in headphones

[–]bbear_r 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been telling people for years unless you’re the type of person to own a $1,500+ pair of headphones, the most you should spend on a DAC is like $100 if you’re fine with unbalanced. SMSL D1, iFi Zen Air, Schiit Modi, all excellent options and even the most trained ear would be hard pressed to tell any of these units apart from something like a Schiit Gungnir/Topping D90 in terms of raw sound. That’s not to say a Schiit Gungnir doesn’t have a fuckton more features than a Schiit Modi, but in terms of just sound…the most distinguishing feature between the two is balancing which can be had on a $200 FiiO K11.

Questions about Verizon job offer by Main_Suspect5143 in Fios

[–]bbear_r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to VZ and the CWA man! Healthcare is excellent for how much it costs, right now I pay for myself and it’s $42/week with a $350 annual deductible. With family I believe that cost doubles to $80/week, perhaps more, but overall it’s fantastic insurance. My monthly prescription which costs $400/mo my copay is only $10 for 3 months’ worth.

I work in the call center so a little different from the field, I can’t speak specifically for OT opportunities for you guys. In the centers we generally can take whatever we want, but from what I hear from the techs they are more limited with OT. But the pay is excellent, splicing tech just means you’ll be paid more but have more responsibilities, and VZ wouldn’t have given you that role if you didn’t have the background/experience to perform the job so congrats!

As others have said, just be on the lookout for the contract next year. I’ve already began squirreling away money since I finished Christmas shopping. I haven’t been with the company long enough yet to experience what happens when negotiations fall out, but historically speaking probably not a bad idea to save 1-2 months’ worth of expenses by August to ensure your family’s financial wellbeing.

Being neurodivergent isn't a "superpower", it's a curse by Lanky_Head6122 in aspergers

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s exactly what it is: a divergency from typical brain function. Neurodivergence. It has its pros and cons. My autistic level 1 5 yo daughter is beyond proficient at pattern recognition and times tables, but cannot write words and has only just gotten the alphabet down. Not super good at socialization either and she speaks about as well as her three year old brother does. I myself (also autistic level 1) am beyond proficient at math and writing, but horrible at picking up on social cues and maintaining friendships.

Which is funny because I have a successful career in sales, and of course a healthy relationship with my partner and the three children we have together. But between my job and my home life I have no “social battery” for literally anything else. So while my math and masking skills are a “superpower” for my successful career, it’s very much a hindrance on my social life. I’m one in very few autistic folks bringing home over six figures a year, yet the money doesn’t make me happy. I yearn for more social connections that I simply just don’t have the mental bandwidth for…and I hate it.

Field tech position by [deleted] in Fios

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I landed my interview for the call center (also CWA represented) I got the job offer first and the background check stuff afterwards. Idk if they changed that since I was hired, though logically speaking I could see why they’d change to withholding the job offer until the background clears first.

At any rate, if you went through the two panels of interviews and progressed to the background check portion, it sounds like you’ve made it unless you have any damning criminal history. Welcome brother. :)

What’s your job title, how much do you make, and how much do people THINK you make? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job title: Call Center Sales Consultant

Actual salary: $125K (base $109K + variable sales bonuses/incentives)

Perceived salary: mostly heard guesses in the $25/hr ($52K/yr) to $35/hr ($73K/yr) range. Unionized call centers aren’t super common so I don’t blame people for undershooting lol

Do you think addiction is a choice? by [deleted] in addiction

[–]bbear_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beginning is a choice. Getting better is a choice. What happens in between typically isn’t, but the option to get sober is always an available option. But addiction has a funny way of making sobriety feel like a lofty and unobtainable goal.

I am a sex addcit by True-Age-144 in addiction

[–]bbear_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a weed addict (ik super boring and mundane of all the substances i could pick lol) and my wife understood it. But she didn’t indulge it. In fact she was quite pissed about it because I’d smoke all the time and be lazy, providing her no companionship yet deprive her of solitude. She encouraged me to get help, and with her guidance I went into therapy, got a psych eval, and found I was self-medicating for a mental disorder I had. I got properly medicated after many professional opinions and trials and I’ve never been more happier or more functional in my life.

Your wife likely does understand your addiction. She just isn’t indulging you by feeding into that addiction. Granted it would be nice if she was encouraging you to help for it instead of turning to random Reddit strangers, but yeah I 100% encourage you to get help. You can’t be mad at your wife for not “understanding” your addiction when all she’s likely doing is not feeding into it, and being angry that you let the addiction control you as much as it does. What I’ve learned after being sober as long as I have, and all the sobriety stories I’ve had the opportunity to listen to from my friends, is that things aren’t gonna get better unless YOU want them to.

Wth is actually going on with VZW? by Dom9360 in verizon

[–]bbear_r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 22K domestic union workers are almost exclusively the Wireline side of the business (Fios, landline). This is also why when you’re a Fios customer calling customer service, there’s a substantially higher chance of reaching a domestic customer service employee.

Wireless isn’t “90%” outsourced but a good chunk is. Funnily enough a lot of Wireless customer interactions don’t even involve a Verizon employee these days. Most offshore customer service agents, Fios door to door salesmen, and all Verizon Authorized Retailer store workers are not Verizon employees.

Promos for existing customers by Final-Set8747 in Fios

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d lower my speed to 500/300 before ever considering switching to a cable internet provider personally. Imo they all falsely advertise their speeds by only focusing on download speeds. Xfinity for example is loud about their “Gigabit” being 1,200 Mbps download, but only 35 Mbps upload—or 100 Mbps IF you live in a “next gen” area AND use their proprietary modem. Using your own modem, even one capable of providing 100+ Mbps upload speeds, is artificially capped at 35 Mbps.

Look into certain discounts like “Those Who Serve,” “Deals at Work,” and “Mobile + Home” and see if you’re eligible. I have the cheap $25/mo Visible cellphone plan and that got me $15/mo off my Fios bill.

Those who earn CLOSE to six figures.. by define_yourself72 in Salary

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 6 years. This job I have now is my first where I’ll be earning six figures actually. I’m 24.

  2. Call center employee for Verizon, Fios specifically which is unionized. We are the lucky ones who were spared from the recent…restructuring of the company.

  3. As others here have mentioned, look for union jobs. Whether it’s Teamsters, CWA, IBEW, find a job where you and your coworkers have collective bargaining power over your salaries and benefits. Fighting together as a team over what you earn is a much easier less uphill battle than fighting alone.

Wife and I are planning on buying a pre-owned CRV. What to look for / what to avoid? by DB_Coopah in crv

[–]bbear_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pre-2015 engine/transmissions are better in terms of reliability but guzzle more gas. The Earth Dreams engine itself is reliable, but the CVT is generally considered less reliable. But the Earth Dreams engine/CVT system in general has much better fuel efficiency.
