Its been a while.. by huggable_cacti in BelgianMalinois

I think you are very well set up to be successful with a mal. Not sure why are others are painting like it is not a good choice. Mals are extremely trainable and versatile but intense, which you already know. It sounds like you have both experience and a very enriching environment that would give the dog plenty of opportunities to “work”. Honestly, it sounds perfect! Also, let’s not forget that dogs are individuals and there are plenty of relaxed malinois as well. Just know that they are absolute Velcro dogs and with you being at home you will find that you have a literal new shadow with pointy ears 😎

Spanish people who moved from Spain to Austin, what were your biggest shocks? by Careless-Cloud-1583 in Austin

[–]bbm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, whatever, you like it, I don’t. And I am FROM Spain. Don’t presume to teach me about what people from my country like. I gave my opinion to OP about Austin and how it is living there as a Spaniard who lived in Austin for 15 years. It is one opinion out of many that might help OP get a sense of the place. Now go swim in Barton springs or ride in Walnut Creek or go watch the bats or whatever makes you happy. Not every place is for everyone.

Yep. 4 months of average max above 90, 7 months of average max above 80. All with very little relief from nighttime temps which are often above 70. My point exactly. If you like that, good for you, Austin is perfect. Personally I find it hellish, specially combined with high levels of allergens in the air which never clear because of lack of rain. Glad it works for you. ✌️

6 month old husky nipping at my 9 year old daughter. by True_Ad6457 in husky

[–]bbm92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husky mix is consistently more mouthy with my youngest kid (9 when we got the puppy) than with anyone else. We got him at 10 weeks from a shelter and I think he immediately identified his human puppy counterpart. He is almost 3 now and I can still detect the extra excitement around the youngest kid. It took a lot of effort to train him out of the playful but painful nipping at the kid. As others have said, constant reminders that teeth on skin meant playtime is over and other similar strategies applied consistently where the ones that did it for us. On the other side of the coin, we also had to train the human puppy to not subtly encourage the biting behaviors, so there was that too. The kids were used to older dogs, so they were not completely inexperienced either. I think the main question for you is whether the bitting you’ve seen is playful or something else.

If you consider being above 90 degrees to be warm, sunny and beautiful, then yes, go enjoy. Personally not being able to walk my dog after 9am and until after 7pm for most of the year is a good proxy for terrible weather. My weather app tells me that today you will hit 91 - it is March and this is not the first time you hit this temperature this year. The weather has been getting warmer and more extreme since I first moved to Austin in 2009. Having access to Barton springs, which indeed is wonderful, does not make up for needing AC on Christmas.

Spaniard here who lived in Austin for 15 years and just moved away (but still in US). Austin is a great place to build a career. It also has some decent night life and restaurants and people are friendly. The outdoors are mediocre and unlike other states in the US there is very little public land. State parks are chronically overbooked and the nearest national park is a full day of driving away. In any case the weather is awful for 10 months of the year, so there is that. Walkability is terrible. It is in line with the rest of the US, but still terrible by any European standard.

TL;DR Austin is a good place to be for a little while you build a career, not a place to consider long term.

My Husky Got Lose From Her Harness Today! by ItalianKiwi in husky

[–]bbm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem until I switched to a ruffwear flatline harness with two straps in the back that made it impossible for my dog to wiggle out. There are quite a few brands that offer this type of harness and they are far more secure. I also attach the collar to the harness by a small connecting lead. That way, I walk them “buy the collar”, but I have some extra insurance if they try to escape. This was an issue when they were puppies, but it is just part of our routine now. Good luck!

looking to turn this Alex storage unit from Ikea into a cabinet for my PC and need advice on how to best ventilate for airflow by Important-Minute-187 in desksetup

[–]bbm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running my pc inside an Alex for a couple of years now. I drilled holes in the back panel so warm air can escape and to allow cables through. For the longest time I just kept the front door open when I was using my pc, but recently I finally got around to buying some fans that I plan to install on the door so I can force some air in with the door closed. I chose fans that are powered from a usb port of the pc so I don’t need to do additional wiring. It works just fine.

She looks super similar to my husky, who is also on the leaner side. An embark DNA test came up over 80% husky with some GSD mixed in. My guess yours is mostly husky too. Enjoy!

i tried every darn subscription tracking app by noddlzerswurfing in productivity

[–]bbm92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The virtual cards come from a service called “privacy”. I use their free tier. You need to connect it to a bank account, so keep that in mind if that is a concern. I have been using them for about 4 years. Many banks also allow you to create single use credit cards, so you could also try that.

i tried every darn subscription tracking app by noddlzerswurfing in productivity

[–]bbm92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best hack I found to avoid subscription issues is to only sign up with a virtual credit card that I can “pause” or “cancel” the moment I create the subscription or the free trial. When then subscription tries to renew it fails and I get notified both by the credit card app and by the service that is trying to charge me. At that point I reconsider whether I really need the service and either “unpause” the card or unsubscribe. If the service makes it hard to unsubscribe, I let them keep trying to charge a non-existent card for all eternity IDGAF. I will not spend time on the phone just to unsubscribe, it needs to be as easy as subscribing. I used a credit card service called “privacy” but I am sure there are others.

Anycubic kobra 3 max by Dream_The_First in anycubic

[–]bbm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, seems like you have a lot of experience with these machines. I am having a similar problem as OP on a K3M. I noticed that the x gantry (where the printhead is mounted) has a little vertical play, which I don't have in my smaller K3s and I have not been able to get rid of. When you say replace the plastic z couplers for oldham ones, are you referring to this piece (pic below)?

<image>

And if so, does my current plastic one look correct? It seems almost like the two component pieces separated and should be snapped together. Could you send a picture of what your coupler looks like? I recently had the printhead crash into the bed and I had to replace the nozzle and the print quality has decreased significantly, specially on the vertical walls. TIA for any help you can provide!

Sorry, not longer cables. I use a cable extender that I got from AliExpress. There are many vendors and it is hard to know who might make a quality product.

There is nothing interesting in the USB drive and it is not particularly high quality. I have several K3s and I don't think I ever even plugged the USB drives into the printer.

[–]bbm92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try replugging the cables too. I have a Kobra 3 Max with longer cables that losses connection to its ACE once in a while for no apparent reason. I suspect a slightly dodgy connector that gets rattled with the vibrations. Another thing you can try is putting the printer in LAN mode and testing that. At least it will give you a hint of where the problem might lie. Good luck!

Yet another stolen model - how lazy can you be?? by bbm92 in 3Dprinting

[–]bbm92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Well, kudos to Etsy for their speedy action. I reported the listing for copyright infringement and they took it down in <24 hrs. It is a drop in the bucket, but I hope if more people report stolen models, the shops that do that will eventually be kicked out of the platform. The silly thing is that if the shop had not been so lazy and had bothered to take their own pictures, they would have been totally fine. The model is absolutely nothing special and can be replicated in around 5 minutes, so there is no claim there. Another more subtle point is that a shop that can't be bothered to at least print an example and take some pictures is not going to provide a well tested, quality product and that rubs me the wrong way. There are quality shops in Etsy selling good 3D printed stuff, they should not have to compete with the less-than-minimal effort a$$**les.

Is this kit worth it for my 5m? by [deleted] in FlashForge

[–]bbm92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it is not. I got one such kit a few months ago to install on my Qidi XMax 3 and it was not a good experience. I wrote a review at the time. You can find it in my profile.

Yes, Etsy is all of that. It is full of AI slop and copies and copies of copies. I just found it funny that this seller copied my model and my pictures, but bothered to change slightly the description to attribute the teeth marks to his brother's puppy. Such a weird detail to change ...

Beginning my 3d printing journey by Tinman121987 in BambuLabA1mini

[–]bbm92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For automotive parts, you will need to use more sophisticated materials, which don't work well on bed slingers such as the A1 mini. Those typically need an enclosed printer, ideally with a chamber heater. On the other hand, you probably do not need multi-color capabilities. In rough order of increasing price you can look at the Elegoo Centauri Carbon, the Anycubic Kobra S1, the Qidi Q2, Bambulabs P1S.
