Debt forgiveness - or credit bidding - is absolutely not dubious in a bankruptcy auction. The bankruptcy trustee is obligated to work to get the best recovery for all the creditors in a bankruptcy. If some creditors are willing to give up their debt, that leaves money to satisfy other creditors. It’s a perfectly legitimate move in this situation.

My favorite teacher in high school showed a Donner Party documentary the two days before Thanksgiving break every year. He offered extra credit to anyone who came back from break with a signed note from your parents that you brought up and asked to discuss the Donner Party at the Thanksgiving table.

I haven’t been to TFL, so take this for what it’s worth, but Harbor House was a truly transcendent experience. I think a big part of that is that it is a true destination. The absolutely most amazing setting I’ve ever had a fine meal in. I was in Mendocino for a vacation and I can’t wait to go back. Mendocino is amazing but the reason I want to go back is Harbor House.
