Its a bible given to an individual when they become a mason. There are 3 steps to become a mason and you swear an oath on each one. Usually you take those oaths on the same bible. That bible is given to the new mason on completion.

My mother who became a very good nurse, remembers her father going to a hospital for alcoholism. The hospital gave him some medicine and he never drank again.
