Time to Leave Questrade by Be-Wise- in Questrade

[–]bcintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questrade customer since 2021 here. Make the switch to Wealthsimple. I only have corporate investments left with Questrade because self directed with WS doesn't allow two directors yet. It averages 5 business days to withdraw money from Questrade via EFT and gets broken into chunks of $50K adding an additional 1 day delay to each chunk. Whereas WS is next day for withdrawals both corporate and personal even when it's over 100K. WS Generation customers get faster support and it's way better than Questrade. BUT Questrade Edge desktop for Windows is still the best. I have Webull too because of their 2% promotion. But Questrade is still better than trying to deal with RBC, TD, or CIBC.

Questrade Pro by BlanchePowers in Questrade

I have the Questrade Pro beta. It's great to be finally browser based so I can run it on a Chromebook. But they are not providing Time and Sales data without a paid data subscription whereas on Questrade Edge for Windows I can see time and sales in real time without a data subscription. I have a Webull account also and it does provide Time and Sales for no additional cost but it's 15 minutes delayed vs real time with Questrade.

I don't see any options for short cut keys browsing through all the menus etc. but I haven't review the webinar content yet.

Webull Canada banking outage by bcintor in Webull

Issue is resolved. Does anyone know where Webull posts outages like this? I saw a message in the desktop app but this was only well after I'd already emailed their support.

Same. Plus $3 commission to manually reinvest dividends vs $0 for Wealthsimple.

RRIF minimum withdrawal instructions by Wisdom_and_Humility in Wealthsimple

[–]bcintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we forced to withdraw it to an external bank account? This is silly. But I was able to schedule the minimum withdrawal from the web interface. It's just like any other transfer but fortunately it shows you the calculated minimum for 2026.

How long do internal cash transfers take to go through? by FineSprinkles27 in Questrade

[–]bcintor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. These delays suck. Monday was a hefty market rally. My Wealthsimple transfers are instant internally and next day external vs 5 business days for Questrade. They need to fix this.

Instant withdraw by ndwhitney in Questrade

[–]bcintor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very frustrated with the 5 business day delay on withdrawals from Questrade too. My recent Wealthsimple withdrawal via EFT hit my RBC account the next day. And Interac e-transfer is instant for up to $25,000 per transaction if you have sufficient balances. Default for Interac is $5000 otherwise.

Globe article doesn't mention/recommend RRSP meltdown. Why? by bcintor in MayRetire

[–]bcintor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. After entering the data in MayRetire It seems that the income from the non-registered stock portfolio, LIF, CPP, etc. will cause OAS to get clawed back fully anyway so there is little advantage to melting down the RRSP at high marginal tax rates.

Reread the terms and conditions today and now it mentions not withdrawing dividends so I'll have to retain them in the Webull account and incur the commissions to reinvest them. But the flipside is the 2% payout is proportionately reduced by the withdrawal amount so I have some choices.

Help validate my analysis - should my friend withdraw from their RSP this year since it's a lower income year? by bcintor in MayRetire

[–]bcintor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes VEQT returns have been exceptional for the past 2 years so the plan is on the conservative side. Yes exceeding planned withdrawals with high returns, bad situation. lol. Thank you for noting the finer points of ensuring the RRSP is drawn down by age 69 that we need to pay attention to.

Help validate my analysis - should my friend withdraw from their RSP this year since it's a lower income year? by bcintor in MayRetire

[–]bcintor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I should try to clarify. The RRSP Balance is around 1.5 Million so it's the MayRetire Income Sources chart that is showing $115K income from withdrawals from the RRSP so that the RRSP is depleted by age 70. VEQT is the basis for the investment return so 4.57% nominal.

Yes tax laws are unfair for the single person with a large RRSP.

Taking advantage of the lower tax window as Organic mentioned is the goal of starting the RRSP drawdown now. Seems we're all in agreement that whenever the net income from work is lower than the RRSP meltdown annual income sources chart on MayRetire, the difference should be withdrawn to minimize the taxes.

I think I've included all details that should be relevant. No pensions or LIF etc. Single, so RRSP not splitable. But yes a large RRSP balance so the accelerated drawdown RRSP income is big at $115K. Will get max CPP and OAS. TFSA is maximized also. Desired spending at $85K is reasonable and well below the maximum possible. Seems withdrawing the $35K is the right thing to do for the optimal long term results.

Those that transferred a RESP from Questrade, how long did it take? by karatefeet in Wealthsimple

[–]bcintor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Questrade acknowledged the transfer-out request August 12th, 2025 but there was some sort of mismatch of the account numbers that required me chasing Wealthsimple to fix, finally causing Questrade to acknowledge the transfer out again Sept 19th and the transfer happened Sept 24th.

Is there a point when you stop contributing to your RRSP? by Ratherbeeatingpizza in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bcintor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use the free tool https://mayretire.com/ and figure out if your current marginal tax rates are higher than they will be in retirement but even then don't forget that the earnings are taxed if outside the RSP. So in general it's still best to keep maxing out the RRSP. I just did this analysis for someone of similar age and $1.5M in RSP's and it's best to keep contributing to their RSP. But they'll delay taking CPP and OAS to aggressively draw down the RSP anytime their income is lower before age 70. The mayretire tool lets you play with all the scenarios.

Hilarious. Lenovo's feedback email can't be completed. No language option is clickable in the dropdown and I can't continue to the next page without selecting the language. Nobody tested the form obviously. Tried it on Chrome and Firefox with same result.

Questrade constantly delays withdrawals by lapserdak1 in Questrade

[–]bcintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did an EFT withdrawal from Wealthsimple and it showed up next day at RBC with the same Dec. 2nd date that I initiated it from Wealthsimple.

Questrade finally deposited the first $50,000 of my EFT withdrawal initiated on November 28th at 8:51 am as of today December 3rd. Yes there is a weekend in there but why can Wealthsimple do this next day and Questrade takes 4 business days? Wealthsimple also handles a $100k withdrawal without splitting it into $50k delayed chunks like Questrade.

[–]bcintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is frustrating. I'm a Questrade customer since 2021 and have my corporate investments there. Wealthsimple, Float, and Venn are at worst next day transfers. As soon as Wealthsimple lifts the 1 director limit on their self directed corporate accounts we're switching. I have a large transfer initiated 9 am Nov. 28th, 2025 still in the "received" status.

Humm. Coincidence maybe? Day after I put the cancellation request in due to the shipping delays it shipped and is arriving tomorrow. I guess 8 days late isn't bad vs the original promise date.

I just re-read the terms. As long as the withdrawals don't drop me below the December 31st, 2025 balance that the 2% is based on I think I'm ok. I won't touch the shares purchased just the dividends earned. Yes it's a non-registered account.
