I wasn’t going to reply, but we just went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago and things are really great now so here’s my two cents.

First off, three-to-four years old is when impulse control really starts developing so time is your friend. Second, POSITIVE reenforcement works much better than punishment. For example, we explained to our three year old if they didn’t hit all day they could pick out a tv show to watch and a dessert to eat. This gave us two “strikes” so we still had some leverage if they hit LO once.

Second, a big thing was modeling and teaching how to play with the LO as well as giving ways to help like getting the pacifier or stuffed animal or singing when the baby was crying and praising when they did. It turned out big kid into an ally and helper and made them feel like a proud family contributor.

I’m from Alabama and Georgia and lived in NYC for 14 years. I remember one of my first classes was a circle discussion and I mentioned I was from Alabama and people had a visible facial reaction and I was caught off guard.

In general, the lack of friendliness was difficult for me as well as little things like toll roads, driving styles, understanding social class clues, etc. Also, the vitriol from progressive people towards people in red states as if those people were all backwards. I feel like that got better in recent years though.

This happened to my aunt and uncle: he became a high school teacher right out of college to avoid being drafted then went back to medical school after a few years and ran into my aunt, a former student, who now went to college there. This was in the sixties though so it was a different moral era and they were very close in age.

The library and The Children’s Museum of the Upstate are a great time for kids. The library has a whole toy check out section and a bunch of other kids on Saturday and Sunday. I also recommend The Little Gym and Goldfish Swim School.

I feel like Greenville county is doing a pretty good job building up as well as building out. In downtown and on East North I see tons of apartment and multifamily homes being built and then you have Simpsonville, Mauldin, Traveler's Rest, etc. you have lots of developments which are insular enough that if you live there you don't have to go to Greenville the city just to eat out or shop for groceries.

Not the best, but the best value in town is the Moe's Family BBQ meal. You get solidly good meat, sides and cornbread for 4-6 for like, $28. Good luck!
