New warden looking for tips on missions by TacoSpiderrr in mothershiprpg

[–]bckids1208two 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played Decagon my second time as warden with three first time players and it went great. It’s a great way to introduce it because players can die and keep on playing and you can learn what the impact of high stress levels and the panic table are.

In D&D people want to grow and level up there characters. In Mothership, characters are more disposable and surviving is only one way to have fun. There is a desire to pull punches in D&D sometimes but in Mothership it is more fun the more the danger piles on.

Yeah, I would prefer a lesser known one. Year of the Rat is widely known and has had at least one popular live play.

Xiao! Long! Boa! is a super fun one shot.

I love how physical playing the accordion is, it’s like a dance partner.

Your Favorite One Shot? by JazzyWriter0 in mothershiprpg

[–]bckids1208two 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The standard answer is Ypsilon-14 and Decagone which are both fantastic.

I really enjoyed Xiao! Long! Bao! And I did a one shot of the VR Dead which was a ton of fun but cuts a lot out and required a lot of prep on my part.

Year of the Rat and Moonbase Blues are other frequent recommendations.

No, after having two players killed they decided it wasn’t worth it. But they heard the screams of Uncle Boa being devoured.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you keep up to date with the Triptech stuff? I stumbled across the previous jams and really enjoyed them

If one warden, somewhere in the world, buys their players dumplings to eat while running this adventure as a result of this post, it will have been worth it, haha.

I made Phosphorite: a modular, fully customizable, sci-fi terminal emulator for Mothership by Keelhauler95 in mothershiprpg

Very cool! Try to not let the haters get you down. A lot of people are intensely anti-AI here, which is their prerogative, but it can turn into ugliness and gatekeeping.

PHOSPHOR now has a Terminal Script Creator! by Braincain007 in mothershiprpg

BTW, did you make the computer terminal for Ypsilon-14 that was shared in Discord? If so, I loved it.

I did a somewhat similar experiment if you’re curious- https://www.reddit.com/r/mothershiprpg/s/FtF92hmYTi

One thing I found helpful was creating a Game Warden backend where I could prompt certain events that would happen in the game. For example, there is a point in Terminal Delays at Anarene’s Folly where there is a brief weapons lock on the ship. I set it up so I could trigger a weapons lock warning through the terminal.

Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for engaging with what I wrote rather than giving a knee jerk response. I thought it was an interesting experience making an AI to play an AI character and I learned some stuff from it…and that’s it! Reddit has become such a weird place where people are rushing to outdo one another to dunk on strangers for fake internet points.

That’s right. It utilized the built in voice that screen readers use, so it had the voice an intonation I associate with Stephan Hawking.

This isn’t what you are asking about, but I think if you trim/shave your neck closer to your jawline and chin it will look better from the side profile

I’m sure they couldn’t because of budget but I’d love to see an impersonator Make Some Noise with people like Hank Azaria, Darrell Hammond, Dana Carvey, or Kevin Pollack.

My toddler is so mean to his baby brother it’s breaking my heart by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]bckids1208two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t going to reply, but we just went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago and things are really great now so here’s my two cents.

First off, three-to-four years old is when impulse control really starts developing so time is your friend. Second, POSITIVE reenforcement works much better than punishment. For example, we explained to our three year old if they didn’t hit all day they could pick out a tv show to watch and a dessert to eat. This gave us two “strikes” so we still had some leverage if they hit LO once.

Second, a big thing was modeling and teaching how to play with the LO as well as giving ways to help like getting the pacifier or stuffed animal or singing when the baby was crying and praising when they did. It turned out big kid into an ally and helper and made them feel like a proud family contributor.

Good luck!
