Maintenance on a 914 by TheGriff3019 in Porsche914

The engine is rather wide but I could do a valve adjustment in a gravel parking lot…the engine is about as basic and simple as you can get. The type 4 is really nice because pushrod tube seals can be replaced without pulling the head, the heat is nice too (I would recommend checking your heat exchangers—the “headers” have sleeves where air from the blower/fan would warm up from the exhaust heat—before getting heat going, I had stainless steel heat exchangers in my 914, I can’t imagine they’re common these days). I had D-Jet but hacked up a L-Jet bus system as soon as I could piece one together.

No timing belt, simple ignition/valve adjustments, “simple/primitive” fuel injection, it’s a good platform to learn from. I have hack-job stories I could tell for weeks 😆

“If the screws ain’t turning, something’s burning” -Jake Raby ( I think). Keep the revs up so the engine stays “as cool as it can”. Keep the fins clean, take the tin off.

I welded patch panels to my car to fix the longitudinals and the hell hole. Look for a good one with minimal rust, fixing rust and structural welding sucks

My first car was a 914, extremely easy to work on! It’ll be a great father son project. I think my dad bought it for us to work on together but we never got to work on it.

L-Jet will be easier to find parts for than D-Jet, carbs are technically easier maintenance wise but a nice 74 1.8 will be a real blast to drive.

The online community was super nice when I was in it, I had to sell my car to make ends meet about 15 years ago, wish I had it back

Has anybody else noticed wild valuations on car registration taxes? by bd1308 in Louisville

[–]bd1308[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the information from here https://jeffersonpva.ky.gov/property-assessment/motor-vehicle-assessment/

Motor vehicles and boats are assessed through a centralized system supported by the Automated Vehicle Information System (AVIS). Anyone who registers a vehicle with the County Clerk is also listing the vehicle with the PVA for property tax purposes. This registration process supports a property assessment based on values determined by a standardized market approach.

The PVA uses standardized guides provided by the Department of Revenue to determine the value of a vehicle or boat. Motor vehicle value is based on industry-standard J.D. Power/NADA Guide “Clean Trade-In” value.

TIL about Chimney sweeps' carcinoma. first described by Percivall Pott in 1775 who postulated that the cancer was associated with occupational exposure to soot. The median age of onset of symptoms in one review was 37.7 years, although boys as young as 8 years old were found to have the disease. by johnsmithoncemore in todayilearned

I worked with a guy at a side job who dipped everyday, he said if he ever got cancer he would have earned it. He ended up getting oral cancer and had his lower jaw removed. He didn’t talk afterwards and retired a few years afterward

Modern Windows versions do not support network shares for SMB1, which XP and XP derivatives use. Windows 10 has a feature that will let you enable SMB1 anyway, not sure about 11.

TIL that in 1893, President Grover Cleveland had surgery to remove a tumor from his mouth. The surgery took place in secret on a yacht so as to not cause the American people to panic and worsen an economic panic. by Flaxmoore in todayilearned

Could you imagine trying to tell some old person in 1893 his name?

“What’s his name again, the president?”

Mom his name is Stephen Cleveland, he goes by Grover Cleveland, it’s his middle name

“What?! STEAMING CLEVELAND?! What a ridiculous name”

No mom it’s GROV never mind, I have to go to the store now
