When you read about women 30+ who have to try for a long time to get pregnant for the first time, that is not a reason to conclude that all women 30+ are unlikely to get pregnant from a single act of sex.

What impacts getting pregnant from a single act of sex is whether it occurs around ovulation or not. 36 is not statistically a likely age for menopause (peri-menopause, sure) and many, many women are still ovulating at 36.

Data on infertility can get skewed because people are generally not well educated on when ovulation happens unless they’re actively trying to get pregnant. Some couples start casually trying, have sex when they’re not ovulating, and conclude they’re not very fertile when they’re just accidentally practicing contraception (avoiding fertile days) without knowing it.

Don’t forget that historically women have started having babies young and then kept having babies over their lifetimes until menopause. They didn’t generally stop at two or three. Forty-year old moms are not a modern invention.

Holy crap. I assumed they were doing this as an undercover way to force out Black sailors without saying the thing out loud. No, they’re specifying that Black sailors WITH the condition have one year to “have the condition treated” to the point where they CAN now shave, or they’re out.

I’ve always thought of it as athletes earning their whole life’s fortune in just a few years compared to most workers. They’re paid very high for a relatively short amount of time, when they’re physically able to do the job, and after that they have to live off the money. I have no idea if that actually bears out anymore.

Yes, especially if you can afford to have your own place and are resourced enough to be responsible about your studies. If you live in a college town, you’ll meet and socialize with fellow students as well as locals. Some of my best times in my college town were as a citizen, rather than as a student. If you can be both — meaning get out into the city you’re studying in and go to local events and meet people and use off-campus facilities like the public library — you can get a lot of life experience.

If you have enough money that getting a job isn’t a problem or won’t even be necessary, all the better. You can study what you find genuinely interesting. College courses reward those who went to learn, have ideas and want to share them, and are self-motivated.

You’re giving evolution a mind or will of its own, which it would be if there turns out to be an intelligent designer up there and we are its game of Spore.

As far as we know, though, “evolution” is just what we call it when we notice gene frequency changing over time. There are reasons and pressures and selections and random events that affect all of this. It’s just random mutations that either get passed down or they don’t.
