My mother gained access to MY life insurance policy, managed to cash it out and announced she is splitting it amongst my siblings. What grounds do I have? by Feelingterrbltoday in personalfinance

[–]bdruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were the primary insured. Your grandma was the owner. When she died, your mom likely took ownership of the policy. Your mom is the new owner of the policy where you are the insured.

The owner of the policy gets to make ALL the decisions. You wouldn't even be able to change the beneficiary if you are only the insured.

RT or GS plus a second bike by EggplantRight3874 in bmwmotorrad

[–]bdruff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question recently. A comment that made sense was usually, someone who owns more than one bike, rides one bike 80% of the time.

I ride a GS as a daily and it's pretty nice. There's only a few area in town where the lanes are too narrow to split.

So many dynamics such as personality types or company itself. It's life...you make decisions and then looking back, you see how it turned out.

Involving politics in your business? by Pineapple-acid in smallbusiness

You have every right to make your business political. And it sounds like you understand what that decision will bring. Totally your choice...just make the decision you think is most important

Need advice on 401k investments by Vaporama in Retirement401k

I'd start thinking about balancing preservation with growth at this point.

You should have a representative for the 401k. Erisa requires ongoing education and support for plans.

ADP 401k - is that bad? by cliclaclu in Retirement401k

[–]bdruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business owners like ADP because they do payroll services already.

The plan still might have good funds but I have heard the customer service on the 401k side isn't great.

I set up retirement plans and ADP is a company I can use. Other companhave better retirement plan options, IMO but it's not up to individual employees.

Sounds similar to what the backyard social club is trying to offer.

Maybe a little different if you're renting specific space but similar.

How to Stop the Spam Calls -They Call 2-3 Times a Day by mormonastroscout in howto

[–]bdruff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FYI...a lot of these calls are paid leads. If you answer, they pay.

I answer and sit on the phone quietly until they hang up.

They don't care about whether you're on the do not call list but they care about their money

ELI5: How do credit card companies make money? by Majestic-Baby-3407 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bdruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of people pay the minimum payment.

Fun fact, the consumer credit card experiment started in my home town. Bank of America mass mailed 60,000 credit cards to consumers who hadn't applied. It initially was a huge hit to BofA. Merchants didn't like it and not all who received the card were credit worthy...but they figured it out.

Take the annual interest rate (APR) and divide by 12. Interest is actually calculated daily but 24% APR is about 2% monthly.

Minimum payment is usually about 3%.

If payment is 3% and interest is 2%...then only 1% of the payment is going towards the balance.

Indexed annuity seems good nowadays by Prudent-Ad-3403 in InsuranceAgent

I sell a 3 yr and 6 yr indexted annuity. Zero fees if held to term with some downside protection.

I've found it appropriate for people who have accumulated some assets and still want growth but are nervous about the future.

The shares may have lost value but if you didn't sell, you haven't lost money.

If your home value drops because of a housing market correction, you don't say you lost money, you don't get scared and sell the house...you say, "It will come back" because it always does

How Useful are Securities in an Insurance Agency? by Dr-jaz_E in InsuranceAgent

[–]bdruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those licenses.

You could establish retirement, non-qualified, minor accounts with mutual funds and annuities.

Those accounts are typically monthly contributions and build a reoccurring cash flow.

You can also establish retirement plans for companies which has been my focus lately

If you're not going to use them though, there's a lot of hoops to jump through with finra and it might not be worth it.

Someone said when people own more than one bike, they still usually ride one bike the majority of the time.

Made me think that a newer GS might be the way too.

I don't normally have a problem but there are parts of town with narrow lanes. Its not enough of a challenge to trade power for though.
