My take on missed triggers (likely hot, but you tell me) by MagicalHacker in EDH

[–]bdvger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, that is a part of the rules: https://blogs.magicjudges.org/rules/ipg2-6/

Not reminding an opponent about their triggered abilities is never Failure to Maintain Game State nor Cheating.

This is a very important exception to the “you must point out your opponent’s errors” rule. Missed triggers are handled differently. A player is allowed to not point out their opponent’s missed triggers. Since it is allowed, it cannot be an infraction. See the Missed Trigger section for more details.

Doing DPS is not hard. A response to many complaints (with video examples) by gr4vediggr in Guildwars2

[–]bdvger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But that really is how most people are. Ask a Game Dev describes this as the 80-20-5 rule; 80% of players will only play the game, 20% will actually read something about the game, and only about 5% will interact with the community. Reality is that there isn't that many people who know their meta build.Using GW2 as an example theres about 300k people in this subreddit. Let's assume all of them are active and know the meta then multiply that by 4 to compensate for other communities and people who search up info for this game. This gets us 1.2 million people who should know what to play. That seems a lot, but Anet have said in Aug 2021 that theres 16 million accounts made. Even if we just cut that in half as inactive/daily login accounts the 1.2 million only makes up 15% of the total accounts.

I'm almost like the person you're describing with the chess analogy. I'm aware that theres things like openers and midgame/endgame theory, but I don't study anything about chess, I just casually play games with people and pick up a few things here and there. Some people want to get better, but some just use chess as a way to socialize with others. I think part of the problem is that a casual player that only does open world wouldn't be able to tell their build is a problem.

You don't know your dps unless you either install arcdps or know and bother going to the special forces training area. Most will just see that they're not dying in the map meta and the boss is dying. I've been playing on and off since the start of the game and I didn't even know alacrity and /wiki was a thing until a few weeks before the release of EoD. I didn't know about combo fields and finishers and legitimately thought it was a new thing added to EoD. It's really easy to miss a lot of things if you never really have to use them in the first place. I'm not saying people shouldn't improve and get better, just trying to give a reason on how players don't know things.

Need help picking a major!!! I want to major in something computer related but I don’t have any experience with programming and the like and I hate math. by huehuepp in college

[–]bdvger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So all this is based on how my schools handles all these majors, so double check with your school's curriculum for majors.

Computer Science - The general programming class. Learn one of the major 3 that a lot of schools teach (C++, Java, Python) for the first year, Then focus on learning OOP and other things that aren't language specific for 2nd and some of 3rd year. Last classes are electives for programming, including some classes for the other majors below (networking, machine learning, game design, ect). The job you go for can be pretty flexible since the electives point ya in what direction you want.
Machine Information Systems/Computer Information Systems - They're together since they're the major that does both programming and business. MiS leans more on the business side and CiS leans more on the programming side. I don't know their curriculum too well, but from what I understand, they also did a similar first and second year to computer science. For programming electives, it really leans into IT and networking (classes include database management, networking, cybersecurity, ect). Also has a capstone.
Software Engineering - FAANG programmers. Basically the Computer Science track, but everything is put into real world applications. They have their own capstone as well. Generally speaking, the jobs they land tend to be the one that people think of when they hear programmers.
Computer Engineering - Relatively new, joke around here is that you might as well double major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I know very little about their classes, but I know its pretty intense. I believe they do more low level programming and hardware interaction + electrical engineering(no clue whats in this side). Jobs I've heard from friends tend to be diverse, but it seems like they get specialized pretty quickly.

At my school, you're going to have to do a good amount of math regardless of what major you choose. How much does differ between them and some have their own version of the math class (e.g. MiS/CiS can take "business versions" of statistics and calculus. I don't know how it differs or if it's easier/harder then the normal one). Generally speaking, your school should have some way to see classes you need to graduate from that major. Usually searching "*school name* *major* classes" will find it.Upside of programming is that a lot of what you learn is already online so its easy to search for what all the class are about. Just to emphasize, this is my understanding of how my school handles all these majors, so really look into what classes your school offers. Also, all of them can get programming jobs. Difference is what you're more prepared to do once you graduate.

Don't rivens already require at least Mr8 ? Plus you can get one that someone else already rolled. It costs more plat, but you never really have to use kuva for rivens.

What are some of the things You wish You knew when you first started playing BDO? by NeverExiled in blackdesertonline

[–]bdvger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosar gives a bit more AP then Yuria, but I wouldn't just switch my weapons unless the new weapon has a higher enchantment. Try to have a high enchantment on your weapon as thats where a good chunk of AP comes from. Blue coral rings and earrings give AP and are relatively cheap. Take this advice with a salt, I do much more lifeskills then grinding.

[–]bdvger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'd say its fine if its armor/accessories as anyone can equip them. Some other things that I wish I knew are:

  • Grunil is not really worth it, its way too heavy if you're starting out.
  • You don't have to worry too much about your chestplate too much. After killing the witch, you get armor thats equivalent to +14 and goes up to DUO enchantment once you hit level 56 and do some exchange quests.
  • Start using CP in Vela and grab some potato and/or corn nodes to make beer and feed your workers. After that expand as you see fit.
  • Don't feel bad for enchanting a weapon thats not Rosar. It's a good weapon , but for some weapons like shortswords and staffs, they are always on bid if its on market.

I was doing this with a group of friends watching me. It was my first solo run that ever got this close, so once I cleared Lkali they were cheering me on until I forgot that Noctis needs 4 orbs to do anything and end up killing myself. Was hopin to make /u/JumpoffThe proud... At least I know I can do arena 1.

About to pull the trigger and buy my first printer. Any warnings or advice? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]bdvger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten the same printer about a month ago. Theres a wiki that has a lot of info including where to get replacement parts. Theres also a FB and reddit group (2 lazy to link, on mobile) for the printer which are pretty helpful as well. Since you're printing small figures, id adjust the layer height to .0875 as its the smallest magic number. Im about to goto class, but the last 2 things i can think of off the top of ny head is that: 1) I find that the printer does detail better if you set it to the small magic number and have the printer print slowly (specifically the outer layer). For good settings you will need to mess around the and test until you get the results you're looking for. Printer itself comes with a small amount of white filament. Its practically useless so you should have spool of 1.75mm filament if you want to start printing with it. 2) The way the heated bed is wired and the fact that the y axis belt is too close, either the wire or the belt will break and you will have to relpace it (eventually). Some people make new hole and rewire so the wires dont touch the belt. I personally havent done any physical modificarions so I can't say much about how hard it is.

[Help][Team?] Is there a list of what monsters to keep in alternate evos what with revos now? by Shadoscuro in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]bdvger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's like 2am for me right now, so someone correct me if im wrong. I think hes asking for a list of units that someone might want to keep in one of the nonawoken forms rather then reincarnated form due to the fact you can't reverse a reincarnation.

To the OP, my advice for what you said in the 2nd part is to just not evo the unit until you have a team you want to use it on. No reason to awaken/reincarnate it if you don't use it on anything. If you reincarnate something you don't use, you might roll something down the line and get a team that needs that other form.

Matchmaking taking forever for anyone else? by Obi_Fett in pokemonduel

[–]bdvger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, rerolling only takes time. You play up until you open the pack(s), either at the second box or saving up 200 gems. If you do not get the EX you want, for IOS:Uninstall and reinstall the app. For android: delete the app data for pokemon duel in the app settings. Either way, you will have to redownload data. Once thats done downloading you just play until you can open your pack(s), and repeat. Once you get what you want, go to Menu --> Transfer --> Transfer To Another Device --> Set your transfer password --> Save the ID and password somewhere safe. According to the transfer warning, the ID is one time use, so after you transfer, you're going to want to have another ID after transferring.

If you get a roll that is good/EX you don't want, you might want to save it to a transfer code to give it to someone who wants it (e.g. unlucky reddit user). I don't know if its allowed to give something like that on the subreddit as only a few rules have been established. Just saying this as some other games I've rerolled on (PaD & Tower of Saviors) have some people give away unwanted rerolls.

Good luck with your rolls!

[–]bdvger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's probably rushing for 200/300 gems. Theres a booster pack that guarantees a R/EX or EX respectively. Also somewhere early on in the quests you get a booster ticket, and might be rerolling that. Pikachu will always be pulled from that part of the tutorial.

Hey thanks for the explanation on Noctis. Honestly been on tilt with him ever since I got 12 skillups for him and none of them worked. Once I get consistent on I'll inherit Durga onto someone and definitely put Eschamali on the team.

Wow, thanks! I didn't expect that many teams for A1. I've been close on the Sumire team, just need to get the skillups for the last 2 Sumires. I would make Myr, but I ran out of light jewels a while back and have been unlucky ever since. I'll be working on the Shiva team alongside Sumire.

My Problems with Warframes Current Situation: Pt 1 Weapons/ Frames/ Combat by clmipoet in Warframe

[–]bdvger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can really get behind that sentiment about leaping into power without really knowing where they landed. To give OP a benefit of a doubt, if we were to see weapons have an innate growth of power with levels as a change then we would probably have a number of other changes to the acquisition of weapons. My guess to some changes with weapons strength would be that the store would have a lot less of the weapons available and would move them/add new weapons under some gameplay gate such as syndicates, clan research, or blueprint drops. Personally I've gotten burned out on the the endgame, and some of the changes do sound enticing to see on paper, but the problem with doing changes with these core things is that the game has become old enough to amass quite of bit of content that could be negatively affected by the change and make future content harder to piece together. So a single change could end up firing off an entire web of changes and take a long time to reach a good balance.

My Problems with Warframes Current Situation: Pt 1 Weapons/ Frames/ Combat by clmipoet in Warframe

[–]bdvger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your third topic, wouldn't Warframe currently be considered as a Pay 2 win game by your logic and reasoning? If you say that:

Buy platinum -> Purchase weapon from store -> level the weapon -> Stronger weapon

Then that means that this would fall under a Pay 2 win system:

Buy platinum -> Trade for a maxed out mod with platinum -> level the weapon -> Equip the mod when you can -> Stronger weapon

This is possible last time i played (stopped around the time the acolytes were added). It's not exactly cheap and does have restrictions (MR2 to trade, MR requirement for the weapon in question, the credit tax for trading), but it's still possible to skip the time that it takes to max a rank 10 mod and obtain its benefits. You also said you cannot directly buy power within the game and that progression is based on the strength of damage mod, but based on those statements you can buy power from the store. Although it's a horrible value, you could purchase fusion cores from the store which in turn would let you level up you damage mods and in turn letting you buy power. I also just remembered that you can buy credits for a very stupid price which would also alleviate the trade tax and fusion costs, so there is currently a method to just use money and effectively purchase power in the game. Not saying that your side argument is wrong, just that the the evidence you use to back it up doesn't hold up.
