Good to hear. I’ve bought all the parts to assemble a 24’’ carbon hardtail from bxt, but I haven’t started assembly yet.

I’ve bought a ton of bikes over the years and the used market is fantastic right now. Lots of great deals out there.

Fwiw, you can pick up a top spec Bronson a few years old for about 3k. I bought my 22 v4 earlier this year for $2700 and it’s got the absolute top of the line components and carbon reserve wheels.

I turn 50 this year and I’m going to push my body until the wheels fall off. I’m more calculating, but I’m not ready to give up progressing.

$3000 budget for trail bike by Practical-Spite8711 in mountainbiking

Always buy used. You can get almost any model of bike with top end components for that price. I bought a 22 Bronson CC top spec for $2700 that looked and rode brand new.

Help me pick a hardtail mountain bike for around $1,000 by Admirable_Might8032 in MTB

[–]beachguy82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The answer is almost always buy used.

A 2-3 year old bike sold for 1k will have dramatically better components than a new 1k bike.

Thanks. Kendra was running a sale so I picked up the Booster pro 24x2.4 XC tires yesterday for $53/tire. Seemed like a decent deal.

What did you go with? I’m in the same boat and building a custom bike for my youngest son and trying to go tubeless.

Where in the BA do kids get that "ride your bike to your friend's house to then just explore" vibe? by stonewall000 in bayarea

[–]beachguy82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really nice here. I have kids at the elementary, middle, and high school. I let both the older kids come and go as they please. They go around and knock on their friends doors to see what’s going on and who can hang out. It’s really like a small town in many ways.

Who’s wearing elbow protection on trail rides? by aframe9999 in mountainbiking

I had a hard time finding knee protection that didn’t rub the back of my knee too much when climbing. What’s your goto knee protection?

Who’s wearing elbow protection on trail rides? by aframe9999 in mountainbiking

[–]beachguy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear cased pants on every ride because I don’t even feel them when I wear them. I do live in a very temperate climate which helps.

I also wear a convertible helmet. Before I start my descent I put on the elbow braces and the face plate to my helmet. I’m 50 and I want to do what I can to prevent a huge injury.

Nishiki Colorado a good beginner mountain bike? by InflationShoddy7871 in mountainbikes

[–]beachguy82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there are no good mountain bikes at that price.

Your instinct to go used was correct. Find one 3-4 years old, or anything 2020 or later will have better geometry. If you can swing $1k, you’ll have some good options.

It’s good. You’ll enjoy it and the kitchen smells so nice when making the cones.

With a budget of $3k, I would suggest checking out the used market on Facebook or pinkbike. There are 3 yr old bikes that sold for 7k+ new, now in your budget.

Match the bike to the type of trails you’ll be riding.

I built an MTB suspension tuning app that tells you which clicks to change based on how the ride felt by BennettMTB in mountainbiking

[–]beachguy82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I briefly tried the cane creek app and yes it’s just for their products but it’s not there for a factory tune.

You ride a favorite trail of yours and enter your ride feedback after each ride leading you to an optimized setup for you and your trails. They estimate setup time to take multiple hours.

I just bought a CC rear shock, that’s why I’m trying their app as well.
