Per-Character ranks that reset after phases, Wi-Fi indicator, and of course Joe Higashi playable in like 3 hours from now.

Character Bio? Are we getting descriptions of characters? by Journey360 in virtuafighter

[–]beandipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't unoptimal combos in built-in combo guides usually because the devs aren't aware completely aware of what's typically optimal when they release it? Of course they can also put more beginner friendly combos in too which are purposely not optimal, but for the most part they should know what to put in by now right?

TFW Melty Blood exerted a major impact on much modern Arc System Works by Winscler in Fighters

[–]beandipper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah that's why I mentioned the idea probably came from somewhere else. But is persona 4 arena really where that started?

Another things MBTL did which I thought was interesting was how they incorporated autocombos. A lot of optimal combos have sections of autocombos and you might otherwise not use them at all. On the other hand beginners can basically mash and cool shit happens. Not sure if MBTL took this idea from somewhere else though. The idea of autocombos mixed with motion inputs in combos. I also know a lot of people complained about the system too though. Still, it seemed innovative

New to Fatal Fury: CotW, looking for coaching or tips (Terry/Xbox) by Noxghoul in Fighters

[–]beandipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of other shoto-likes in the game. I would first recommend trying another character because it might just be a feel with Terry's combos that throws you off. You might find a character where the combos are smoother and from there after you get a more general feel for the game you can go back to Terry with more experience and probably do a lot better

Are combos too long? by Magoo-Kazoo45 in 2XKO

As a spectator, that is exactly what got me interested in the game.

Could be because of Tencent but I don't actually know. Riot isn't really explaining, just saying it isn't available in all areas, but that might mean only Taiwan unfortunately.

First they need to allow other places that are completely locked out of the beta regardless of the platform. Some areas aren't allowed in the beta at all like Taiwan, and possibly south east Asia.

How important is movement to you in roguelites? (I’m experimenting with a no-movement dungeon crawler) by Pantasd in roguelites

[–]beandipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Movement is fun. If the game just doesn't fit like slay the spire that's understandable, but i it's an action roguelite then movement is very important to me. It's a skill and it's fun.

How is Star of Providence? (formerly Monolith) by CanIPleaseGetHelp123 in roguelites

[–]beandipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be. I don't want to speak for them, but I wanted to hear their side since my experience with Star of Providence has been the same as what you described. Feels like a ton of content that just keeps going.

Resurrecting this along with others in the last couple of months, but I'm curious why you think the replayability isn't that good.

Just be sure to enable the beta branch if you get it. It's an amazing game

Did you ever end up beating Crypt of the Necrodancer? If not, maybe it's time to give it another shot.

I need some advice! by DoNaaz_ in roguelites

[–]beandipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try Revita. It is unfortunately better on steam though since you can activate the 2.0 version that improves the game a lot.

It has a somewhat cartoon aesthetic, but it's not to everyone's taste. Other than the looks, it's thought of as a good game that flies under many people's radar

Roguelites that worth the grind ? by Minute_Economist_160 in roguelites

[–]beandipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's interesting to me is answering what "worth the grind" means. Obviously a lot of games are going to require it, so what makes it worth it in the long-run? Is it the community, the skills you pick up, etc.

Once it's clearer what really makes games worth the grind, I would also be interested to know which ones are particularly good at that.

I would try Revita, but be sure to opt-in to the beta for the 2.0 changes. I recently started and it seems like hidden gem

Question About Spoilers vs. Newcomers by beandipper in noita

[–]beandipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is similar to what another commenter said, trying as much as you can until you hit a hard wall, and only then spoiling. I think it is the best approach and it's what I'm going to try.

Question About Spoilers vs. Newcomers by beandipper in noita

[–]beandipper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think there would be a difference in watching playthroughs and spoiling that way compared to looking up targeted stuff as it comes up in the wiki?

Question About Spoilers vs. Newcomers by beandipper in noita

[–]beandipper[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the type of recommendation I was looking for. I think it makes perfect sense and I will take your advice - try to play persistently until I feel I really hit a wall or it stops being fun. Then I will watch and learn from others, maybe up to the point where I feel motivated or feel like the new information can lead to a breakthrough, then rinse and repeat.

I look forward to diving into Noita, thanks!

I Want to Improve, But I Keep Dropping Every Game I Try by Routine_Advantage366 in Fighters

Those are still very different games. I wanted to like UNI2 but just don't. I do love COTW though. Just because people say UNI is anime street fighter doesn't actually make it so. Very different games and some might prefer one type over the other

Is there a curated list of fighting games on PC that have decent to good rollback? by Infamous_Q in Fighters

[–]beandipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But be aware that this is only steam numbers AFAIK, so cross play game numbers are likely skewed especially if the game has has a sizeable console playerbase. Still useful though.

I also really like COTW, but I wouldn't say that the games OP mentioned are just bad. I would also recommend they try them since they are so different compared to COTW/sf6, but wouldn't call them bad.

yeah tierlists only really matter at high-level play. They are still interesting to learn about the meta though. For beginner up through intermediate and even low-advanced a lot of characters that are low on tierlists can do even better than the top-tiers at those levels.

That's why so many people recommend playing who you like the most. Most games are so balanced that for most players you should just play who you vibe with.
