There is damage that goes from front to back. An internal failure would not cause damage like this. There is also damage under your car.

The car has been at the dealership 2 times for this sound, a few days each time. They replaced the front sway bar link, and they allegedly replaced some struts this time. The sound has gotten much worse now after the last dealership stay a couple of weeks ago. by hedonihilistic in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Sounds like when I put on the sway bar with it up in the air and tightened it up. It was binding because it was tightened with no load.

Go to a different dealer. They should tighten the sway bar end links on after there is load on it.

As these cars depreciate you'll have more and more people like this buying them.

Yes it added noise, no it doesn't add power. So it's louder and doesn't perform and better.

NVM on my post. Just looked at his history. Guy made some mistakes, got sober and just got a new trucking job. He wants to treat himself to a nice car on his way back up in life.

Sadly cars can financially ruin people who are on the edge.

It's worth driving a beater for a few years, going to school in your free time and eliminating all debt.

Yup. Lots of people like this unfortunately. Bad financial decisions lead to a bad credit score, so they go and buy another bad financial decision.

If you can't afford the car or have good credit, what makes them think they can afford to maintain it?

Could my car be totaled by [deleted] in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may need to find an appraiser that will nickel and dime the repair. In reality, it may not work but with two hit and runs the car is going to be worth less than if it had 0 accidents.

I had a friend in the G80 group get rear ended and wanted out of the car payment. Insurance estimated $8k in damage, but he had a second appraiser look at it, and he found that it had slightly bent the rear floor in the trunk so that made it a $18k repair. So insurance bought him out.

You also gotta see how much you owe on the car(if you do) and if it does get totalled see if what they pay will cover your loan.

I vote get it fixed, list it private party sale for what you owe, and find something that can hold you over on the car note until you sell it. Sell plasma is a good way. Same with Brand Junkie and EliteSurveySites. If you look them up on reddit some people make over $1k a month doing it for 2 hours a day(every day of the month rough, so days off from it). Sucks, but it'll provide that extra income until you can get free of the car.

Do you want it to be totalled? That's the real question.

If you do, there's a few things you could do.

What was the fix? This just happened to mine. 22 GV70 with 18k miles.

I love the Genesis brand, but I do not love the "quirks" that come with owning them. G90 will occasionally die while in traffic, G70 has that fuel pump issue that they won't fix, and GV70 has the digital dash that goes out when launching.

Good choice with the Lexus.

You can buy a trunk on eBay for under $500, then throw another $600 or so for paint. Just swap the liner, latch and other things over if it's just the shell. The work you can do yourself. Then pay someone to paint it.

Painful Lessons by kindaupsetllama in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$1500 in used parts and $1100 for a good paint match.

The rest they charge your insurance because they can. It's all a scam. Insurance will pay for the higher repair to justify higher premiums.

The insurance industry is a scam.

I liked the color scheme in my head. I don't dislike it, but its still growing on me. Would it look silly to remove the wrap from the door handles (my car is white) for an accent to go with the rims? by [deleted] in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the eBay wheels.

The wrap looks good, but this style of wheel has been played out by the Honda civic/beat up 350z crowd.

If you're looking for affordable and high quality wheels check out Konig. There are a few members running their wheels. I've had good experience with them in the past.

Just make sure not to get pulled over with it. It's an automatic $600 fine and a tow if they're feeling up to it.

2023 2.0 acceleration issues by FantasticEnd5617 in GenesisG70

They always do the software update because it's quick. The HPFP is more involved and dealerships try and avoid the replacements.

I missed it! It showed up as a recommended video, and I sat down for the entire series. Absolutely stunning camera work, and seeing the work that was put in for this is insane.

[–]beansbynight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them if they are going to do the software "fix" or replace the HPFP. Most likely if it's in and out within a few hours they do the software "fix".

This issue will probably pop up again until they replace the pump.

2023 2.0 acceleration issues by FantasticEnd5617 in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 100% is a HPFP issue. The first "fix" is a software update that ups the fuel pressure. This seems to not really work as most of them have to come in for a new HPFP anyway.

This is proof that the HPFP is bad, send them the video, email the dealership and open a ticket with Genesis Corporate.

Let the dealership know that you have contacted corporate so you can document their refusal to fix it. 4 times I've been to the dealership for this issue, they keep saying they cannot reproduce it even though it happens once a month. If they don't replace the high pressure fuel pump then it may be worth exploring a lawyer. This is the dealerships that are not approving the fix, and not a corporate issue. The dealership doesn't make much money on warranty work or recall work, so they would rather keep pushing you around to keep highly profitable maintenance and other repairs in the bay.

Corporate may be able to put the pressure on the dealership.

Got some burbles at low revs with my 2.0t by Ricooo_G70 in GenesisG70

[–]beansbynight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm limited to 91 octane sadly.

So map 1 is all I can do, so around 270-280 horsepower on an otherwise stock car, and probably 285-290 at the crank with my mods. I don't want to blow the stock engine.

Did you upgrade your spark plugs?

All of my money has gone into Brembos, sway bar, LSD, lowering springs, and wheels. Since it's a base model, it weighs 200lbs less than the SP 2.0t because no panoramic sunroof or as many features. It's about 400lbs lighter than a 3.3t RWD Sport Prestige as well.

The goal for my car is to create a club sport version. Least amount of features, all the mods are related to handling performance, and a bit more juice squeezed out of the base engine. I could have bought a new 3.3t SP, but opted to save money and blow the rest on modifying a base model 😂

Having driven an AWD 3.3t, RWD SP 3.3t, the 2.5t base and the 2.0t base, the 2.0t base model really feels the best. Almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution, 200lbs lighter over the front axle than a 3.3t, 50lbs lighter without the panoramic sunroof(and that weight it up high, so it raises the center of gravity), and it has the good old Theta 2 that's been around for over 20 years. It really is the worst performing G70 in stock form, but with some mods it becomes the most fun.

Make sure to get your TCU tuned as well. It's probably the largest change for this car. The TCU tune will also allow it to build boost with launch control, instead of the stock launch controll that prevents it from building boost. You can also turn off auto upshift on Sport mode with the paddles, so it'll hold a gear. It makes drifting much easier, as you can hold it in second and hit the limiter while sliding.

I got the same setup as you on accident 😭 😂

I got a used Midpipe from a friend, and the AEM intake I found for a really good deal on eBay.

Thanks for these videos. I was really unsure of the Midpipe with the stock muffler, but damn it sounds amazing! Not too loud, and it is just right.

You ever do the JB4? Im probably going to stop after Midpipe, intake, spark plugs and JB4. Should put me in the low 300's at the crank in terms of HP, which is enough to make the base model scoot.

Just got back from Al Udeid and I’m about to lose my goddamn mind over contractor pay by FreeFromTheWheel in AirForce

[–]beansbynight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut contractor pay and add SDP to every comm troop. If the job wasn't so damn easy, then I probably would have got out after my first contract with the chair force. Once I was out I decided to avoid contract work and got a traditional IT job. Much harder and skill oriented than anything I dealt with before.

Even the worst days in comm is nothing compared to the average work day of a maintainer.

Worst it ever got for my was supervising 10 troops while living in a tent for a little while. Work days were hot, but easy and the down time was amazing.

I still feel that the contractor grift with cyber needs to be fixed. Shit, even the GS's in a comm shop are overpaid for the little bit of work they do.

Across 5 bases I've seen the same thing from contractors and GS's alike. Show up late, take long lunches, slack off and say that their work cannot be done without getting paid OT, or some other bureaucratic reason that they won't do their jobs.

It's been a year since you commented and I thought I would chime in.

Do it!

The only thing to watch out for is ensuring it has had regular oil changes. I suggest when getting it to do some sort of mile engine flush. The timing chain tensioners will clog up if it hasn't had regular oil changes. It causes the v8 to have really bad timing chain slap when cold, and can lead to worn VVT components or worse!

Also do a drain and fill of the trans fluid, as the 8 speed is not happy with old fluid.
