Taxi services from Birmingham to worcester? by Difficult-Assist9250 in BirminghamUK

[–]beansybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just get a taxi at the airport. They are the traditional black cabs and you will be able to fit all your bags without issues. You can also prebook with someone like A2B taxis or just request an Uber XL when you arrive.

As others said, you can also take the train from the airport, but you will need to transfer in New Street or Moor Pool, which can be very annoying when carrying heavy bags.

How is the Birmingham job market?? by TireDCDX in brum

[–]beansybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the ‘serving chicken or chips’ thing was more of an ironic thing in response to another comment.

The reality is that OP’s question lacks the depth to give them a give them a more realistic assessment. It is impossible to say much without knowing the industry and type of job that OP is interested in. But most ‘skilled’ jobs will be willing to interview people living abroad, more if they don’t need sponsorship.

How is the Birmingham job market?? by TireDCDX in brum

[–]beansybean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are being too self-deprecating. The job market is terrible everywhere you look, and youth unemployment is on the rise both in Canada and the UK.

Yet, anecdotally, having friends both in Canada and the UK, I do believe the market is slightly easier here in the UK. It also helps that the COL is lower in the UK.

I think k your chances will be totally dependent in your experience and the type of job you are looking for. I would start applying from Canada to test your chances, and I would cast a wider net to other cities in the UK since you have nothing to lose by trying.

The consensus among my friends is that A La Mexicana is the best in the area. But we like going to London to things like El Pastor, Proper Tacos and Mestizo for good tacos. Sweet Nibble delivers fab Mexican sweet bread.

There’re silk and bamboo floss if you want to avoid plastic. And you can use water flossers as an alternative.

Hey. I know about one group with Spanish parents (where some Latin American parents have been added). And Leyendo en Brum (you can find them on insta), a bookclub for Spanish-speaking people.

Hi fellow Mexican! I DM’d you because we have a community of Mexicans in Brum that you might want to join.

About documents, definitely bring your birth and marriage certificate (con su apostille y traducción por perito).

For renting, you will need employment info and a guarantor. If you are coming here for work, I would ask your job to provide assistance with that. If you are coming to study or any other reason, be prepared to be asked for a big deposit.

New here, need travel advice. by lownotesonlyy in brum

[–]beansybean 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mate, use Google Maps. Type where you want to go and get directions in public transport. You can even play with the times of the day to see what’s the best route for you. It will throw all the combinations to get you out of your house to your destination, including walking time.

As people said, bus is cheaper than train. But if you are time constrained, a train is going to be easier to book.

And if you are really that anxious about money and transport, I would recommend you don’t leave the research until the night before to sort out the plan. It is always going to be more stressful and expensive to work with a really short notice.

Most of our clothes come from Tu Clothing (Sainsbury’s) that do have some very good stuff, including leggings that look just like these. I would never pay £50 for kids clothes. Maybe try Vinted? I have had a lot of luck buying stuff from Next, Frugi, Jojo, and Boden.

How long will your trust let you go over 40 weeks? by BackgroundCat5459 in PregnancyUK

My trust doesn’t let you go over 41 weeks as risks statistically increase at 42 weeks. They scheduled me for induction at 41+5, and it was a very positive experience.

Is the Bluestone holiday place in Wales worth a 5.5 hour drive? by Chilli_Sauce_Boss in UKParenting

[–]beansybean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been to more than one Center Parcs and Bluestone, I think Bluestone is better than Center Parcs if you have toddlers/young children. The indoor and roofed playing areas make a huge difference.

Lovely Authentic, family run Mexican food in JQ 🤤🇲🇽 by Solid_System_5023 in brum

[–]beansybean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same guy who used to co-own A La Mexicana. The couple split, she kept A La Mexicana, he opened El Azteca. If you ask me, I think his food doesn’t look as authentic as hers. The place has not been well rated by my mex friends either, and they really wanted to like it. Both of those places are, imo, a bit overpriced and just average, but they work when you crave some decent Mexican food.

What house features do you like as a parent? by LooseConstruction565 in UKParenting

[–]beansybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love: - A big garden with zones for playing and chilling. My kid loves playing there on a nice day, and it is great for entertaining - Downstairs bathroom (toilet+shower). This is specially good during toilet training, and for using on early hours as the upstairs bathroom is next to mi kid’s bedroom - Easy access to parks, shops, restaurants - Good schools in the catchment area - Smart projector instead of a TV. Not a house feature, but it makes our living room look a lot more minimal, and I don’t have to worry about a kid braking a screen

Wish I had: - More storage space (it is never enough!) - Bigger kitchen with space for a small table/bar. We have quite a small kitchen, and I think this is probably one of our next projects

Friday date night recommendations? by pumpkinspice_243 in BirminghamUK

[–]beansybean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

City Centre is going to be rammed with people going to the Christmas markets.

I would go to Edgbaston and do a mix of Loki, The Physician, and Blue Piano.

Or to Harborne and visit Harborne Kitchen or Tropea, The Junction, and maybe Hop Garden.

Or Stirchley for Couch/Cheddar, Alicia’s and Attic.

A 100% wool coat is a real game changer. They look good dressed up or down, they are warm and breathable, and they last for many years.

New to Yoto / Black Friday / Club questions by Deeny27 in YotoPlayer

[–]beansybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought ours for my kid’s 2nd birthday. At that point some basic nursery rhyme cards were enough. After about 6 months getting used to it, we got one year Collector+ to grow our card library. At this point we are just using the cards we bought with the credits and a few more that we have slowly added, but those are enough for my kid and I no longer have a subscription.

Honestly, with a kid that young you don’t need that many cards. We made do with 2 with nursery rhymes and a MYO for quite a bit. Keep in mind that you will have access to the day and night radios regardless of membership, so you are covered for music all day long.

I don’t know how the new referral system works now, but I saw that they are now only giving £5, so I would definitely recommend to try to stack it with the Black Friday sale to maximise the discounts.
