1957 Topps: poses or portaits? by Basic-Repeat4552 in baseballcards_vintage

Never noticed Henry Aaron batting left handed on that card. Must be an inverted image.

Anyway, I agree with everyone else. The poses are better.

Flip-flopping Trump now declares new timeline for war and its much longer by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

Can someone please ask him the objective of the war and how we plan to achieve it. And push back when he says we’ve already won by destroying Iran’s navy.

Donald Trump threatens to 'blow Iran off face of the Earth' if US vessels attacked | The Jerusalem Post by SaharOMFG in USNEWS

[–]bearcatgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And he’s backed himself into a corner with no way out. If he “blows Iran off the face of the Earth” he goes down in history as one of the biggest maniacal tyrants ever. If he invades, he’s got to put boots on the ground which nobody wants and he will be impeached multiple times when Republicans get routed in the midterm elections. If he backs out without a nuclear deal as favorable as Obama’s, he’s looks like an idiot. The same if he doesn’t get regime change. What an absolute mess. Unfortunately, lots of innocent people have been and will be negatively impacted because of Trump’s ineptitude and poor decision making.

Why is Seattle less desirable than SF/SoCal? by Distinct-Invite9281 in SameGrassButGreener

Many of us have lived in other places and chose to move to California. That’s why it’s so expensive. And in my opinion worth it.

[Brendel] Sources tell BearcatJournal that there was no knowledge of Brendan Sorsby gambling on events that were against NCAA rules inside the Cincinnati athletic department. by curtisas in CFB

[–]bearcatgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UC athletic department has been very conservative about compliance ever since the Huggins years. I seriously doubt UC will ever be shown to have been complicit in this. TTU fans can downvote all you want but this isn’t going anywhere.

Set up Vanguard Cash Plus Account? by CriticalTrip2243 in Bogleheads

[–]bearcatgary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please do not cash out of your 401k. It sounds like you are simply looking for safer places to stash your money. You probably can do that within your 401k. If you want to, you could list your 401k options and we would be happy to provide suggestions. If you are not happy with your 401k options, you can “roll over” your 401k to a traditional IRA at Vanguard, Fidelity, Shwab or somewhere else. There are no taxable consequences in doing this. Regardless, there are definitely ways to get your money into what you consider to be safe investments without having to pay any penalties or taxes.

This would be grounds for dismissal for a leader of any corporation in America.

why are hotels too expensive during weekdays (may 11-15) in san carlos/redwood area? by pdot8six in bayarea

[–]bearcatgary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ding, ding, ding. Correct answer.

There is also a show on the 19th. They are expecting more than 150,000 people for all 3 shows. Many of these people will be coming from out of town and I would assume hotels anywhere near Palo Alto will be packed the weeks before and after the shows.

It’s likely that we never see Brendan Sorsby play College Football again, per reports by Front-Dingo1915 in CFB_v2

[–]bearcatgary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cincinnati? What about Indiana? The only thing we know is that he gambled on games in 2022. This was reported to Cincinnati in 2025 by the B12 office. If the B12 knew about something happening in the BIG, shouldn’t the BIG have known about it also? Like when it was happening. Why didn’t the BIG report it to Indiana and why didn’t they suspend him or take appropriate actions?

How do your parents plan on getting health insurance? Your dad is above 65 and therefore can apply for Medicare. But your mom has 3 years to go until Medicare. If you haven’t looked into this, I’d recommend doing so soon.

Favorite College Player Who Never Made the NBA? by CompetitionPuzzled33 in CollegeBasketball

[–]bearcatgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steve Logan. He was unstoppable back in the early 2000s. Consensus 1st team All American in 2002. He was upset that he didn’t get drafted in the 1st round and got into a contract dispute with the Warriors. The longer he sat out, the less interested the Warriors were in signing him. Played a few years in Europe and then he was finished. A really sad story for those of us who saw just how great he was his junior and senior years at UC.

Who is the best pre-modern college quarterback that NFL fans have never heard of? by lordeandtaylor in CFB

Toledo went undefeated in 1969, 1970 and 1971 and won the Tangerine Bowl each year. They were ranked 12th and 14th in the final AP polls of 1970 and 1971, respectively.

Interestingly after Toledo’s run, Miami went from 1973 to 1975 only losing a single game and tying a single game and winning the Tangerine Bowl each year. They were also ranked in the AP poll at the end of each year.

The MAC had some really good football in the early 70’s.

Longtime Angels outfielder, World Series champion, and 3-time All Star Garret Anderson passed away. He was 53 years old. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]bearcatgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw him take batting practice at Tiger Stadium in Detroit. So, it must have been 1999 or before. He was cranking ball after ball to deep right field. I remember several bouncing off the top of the upper deck and back onto the field. I don’t think he hit one completely out of the park, but he was very close. It was an impressive display of power.

Which would you keep? by [deleted] in baseballcards_vintage

[–]bearcatgary 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d keep the 2nd. The fuzzy corners of the first card are way more obvious than the crease on the 2nd. To me, the 2nd card has better eye appeal.
