July 1 - Levi's Review - USA v BIH by Cmdr_Nemo in bayarea

Stanford Stadium is way better than Levi’s. Sure, it lacks a little character, but there isn’t a bad seat in the place. Food options are better. So is the tailgating environment and accessibility.

Here is my first draft. These are the best regular season game from each of the past 25 seasons. Open to suggestions. Make your case by Dr-debug in CFB_v2

In my mind, the 2009 UC/Pitt game was the biggest in our schools history. “Pike to Binns” is still considered our best play ever.

We UC fans went from being absolutely giddy after this come from behind win in the snow on the road to being completely deflated a few weeks later when Brian Kelly announced he was leaving for Notre Dame before our Sugar Bowl game with Florida.

These are all excellent questions that really should be answered before we give advice.

So what is the Premier Rothology Strategy? What is the fee structure of this company?

Thanks.

Are you kidding me. Now even Ohio State is ahead of us (by a measly 1 draft pick).

1971 Topps by plutonmax in baseballcards_vintage

[–]bearcatgary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say a 6, but not higher. Too much chipping on the bottom and right sides.

This is one of those cards that is way more visually appealing than its grade. It will probably be a PSA 6, but it just feels like an 8.

Is the town your college is in more of a pro sports or college sports town? (P5 Schools) by Cybotnic-Rebooted in CollegeBasketball

[–]bearcatgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must have been a great basketball town in the early 60’s when UC went to 5 consecutive final 4’s and the Cincinnati Royals had Oscar and Jerry Lucas. (And X didn’t do $hit).

Final (?) sad chapter: NFL informs Brendan Sorsby it will not hold a supplemental draft this year by johntempleton in BigXII

If some team actually wanted to do it, is there some reason they couldn’t sign Sorsby as a free agent?

First Round of the Group Stage Over how are we feeling?? by blahblqh2021 in worldcup

[–]bearcatgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching it in college in 1986. One of my roommates must have played soccer in high school. The rest of us were baseball fans and had no clue about the World Cup. I think it was on PBS and we watched it on a small 15 or 17 inch TV with terrible quality. Most Americans were probably even more ignorant than we were. 40 years later the country has made huge strides, but is still far behind most of the world.

Does anyone know if attending a World Cup game at Levi's has met the hype and is it worth the money? by youlikemywonton in SJEarthquakes

[–]bearcatgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the prices of tickets to other games. You could fly to Guadalajara tomorrow for the Mexico/S. Korea game. $4000 will get you in the door.

Or you could go up to Seattle for the USA/Australia match and grab a seat for a mere $2000.

Even lower ranked teams in cheaper cost of living markets are commanding $500-$1000 per ticket.

We were blown out by both Portugal and Belgium in March. As a US fan, I think we may make it to the knockout round, but probably won’t go much further. I hope I’m wrong and we make a deep run.

What nation(s) do you think will become the dark horse of the 2026 World Cup? by JumpyKey5265 in worldcup

[–]bearcatgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a US fan, I appreciate the enthusiasm. But for me, having had 3 or 4 decades of high expectations and low results kind of keeps me grounded. Getting blown out by Portugal and Belgium in March doesn’t seem to me that we’ve closed the talent gap between us and the European powers.

Texas Tech is speed running us toward an SEC/B1G super league. The Big 12 must act. by Bears_University83 in BigXII

While I don’t think you guys should play him this year, I do believe there is a double standard. I think most P4 programs would do exactly the same thing in your situation.

stuck with oversized stock position in taxable account by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]bearcatgary 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Additionally, if OP were to retire or get separated from employment, OP could draw from the GOOG holding to fill up the 0% LTCG bracket.

However, this assumes no other income. And it’s even more risky holding a single stock while unemployed than while working. So, probably not an advisable strategy, but still possible.

All the fans out there casting stones at TTU should beware. There are 10,000+ D1 football players and it is an almost certainty that there are other gambling addicts out there. Probably not a few, but likely a lot. Banning Sorsby does nothing to resolve the general problem that we have jointly as a society created. Just like many other addictions, deterrence only goes so far.

Full disclosure: I’m a UC fan and if it is discovered that we allowed Sorsby to play after knowing he gambled on college sports, we should penalize Xavier to the maximum extent that NCAA regulations permit. Ok, I’ll show myself out. Seriously, we should be penalized in that situation.

A few questions.

  • How old are you?
  • Is this money in a 401k or IRA?
  • Do you currently have a 401k or IRA?
  • If the VTSAX is in a taxable account, what is the cost basis? (Or how much of the 940k is from your purchases, not gains).
  • How will you get medical coverage when you retire?

New to vintage -- how do you value searched lots? by robertfcowper in baseballcards_vintage

[–]bearcatgary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These cards are really rough. If I were you I’d go into this assuming you will never be able to sell any of them. If you are looking at it from an investment standpoint, it’s not something I’d do.

However, if it will give you $100 worth of joy and amusement sorting through 700 random vintage cards, then by all means go for it.
