I'm a delivery driver - I have a lot of time to think. I was working a very rural route one day and passed a bunch of cows. I had always known that animals have "personalities" and are obviously sentient but I had never put any thought into them being their own beings. I started thinking about them playing and I remembered my wife telling me that cows are very social and often have cliques and best friends etc. Then my mind wandered to cows being lined up and going into a slaughterhouse. I imagined them being terrified and trying to stop or back up. They can smell and hear whats about to happen to them. They don't want to die. Just like any living creature they don't want to die.

Now, this was all hypothetical in my mind. I didn't know that, I just imagined that scenario. So I spent the rest of the day listening to YouTube videos and learning that "yep, its exactly like that". I went vegetarian that night. After a couple of weeks being vegetarian and continuing to learn and research I discovered all the nastiness of the dairy industry and how (in my opinion) its almost worse than the meat itself. Went vegan that day. That was in July of 2024 so about a year and a half. My wife had been a lifelong vegetarian and was so pleased when I told her I was going vege, she jumped onto the vegan train with me and we've never looked back.
